Courier-Journal recap of the 1st round:

Spencer County's softball team scored all of its runs in the first inning and held on for a 3-1 win over Oldham County on Monday in the first round of the Eighth Region Tournament at Simon Kenton.

The Bears (21-11) will play today at 6 p.m. in a semifinal game against Walton-Verona.

Oldham County's season ended at 27-9.

Walton-Verona 5, Henry County 4: Jenalee Ginn hit the game-winning single for the Bearcats (27-10) to cap a 4-for-4 day that included a double and a triple.

Collins 2, Simon Kenton 1: The Titans (22-14) edged the Dragons (19-15) with help of a key double from freshman Sydney Cloyd.

Grant County 5, Gallatin County 2: Samantha Perry hit a three-run home run in the third as the Braves (26-11) beat the Wildcats (14-4).

Grant County will play Collins tonight.
