I see where you all are coming from, i really do.
However, this is a 5A school we are talking about. Not a 1A or 2A school. There are like 1400 kids in NL high school and they cant seem to field 30 kids a year.
I know times have changed and kids dont play like they use to, but how do you get these kids out?
By playing these teams if you do win and get everyone excited about it and kids start showing up, there just going to lay down if they make the playoffs and have to play a Whitley or Harlan in the first round and get throbbed. It seems like that would keep kids from playing the next year.
North hasnt always been like that. I remember when they had the Blair kid and Cessna and a few more back in the early 2000s and that was by far the best team theyve ever fielded and competed with teams around here.

You remember those kids because they had talent. Name 5 kids with that kind of talent at NL lately.

They are a rural school too that does not bus there kids home after practice (like Harlan County or Whitley County). Many kids at North have to work and simply cannot play. Or there parents cannot afford to pick them up and rely on buses.

Laurel County from what I hear also has no youth program so to speak. People like Corbin, Pulaski and Whitley all have big time youth programs and feeders. Many kids at North don't even have a chance to play until 8th grade or even high school.

Numbers do not mean anything....look how bad the Lexington schools are most of the time. And look how smaller schools like Corbin, Mayfield or Beechwood can often play with bigger teams. Community support and economics plus good coaching and talent = a winning tradition. North Laurel has the first two working against them, coaching is there, talent you gotta wait on and then develop.
