Interesting UK Basketball Tourney Facts...
#1
While looking thew some records I found some interesting tourney records and facts about UK basketball.

UK has started the season ranked number one three different times and won the national championship (49, 51, 78)

In 1954, Kentucky finished 25–0 but did not go to the tournament because they did not accept the invitation.

1978 champion Kentucky went 19–12 in 1979. The Wildcats accepted an invitation to the National Invitation Tournament, losing their first round game in overtime to Clemson, 68–67. (Only six teams have done so, not making the tourney the next year after winning the previous year, including 2010 NC)

UK is the only school with four different coaches winning titles at the school. (Rupp, Hall, Pitino, Smith). Kansas and NC both have 3.

UK is the only school to have 2 different coaches take three teams to the final four. (Pitino, Calipari)

UK holds the largest point differential in the tourney with a 129 point margin in 96. NC is second with a 121 in 09.

And some other interesting facts just about UK basketball....

Many probably didnt know, including myself that UK and Duke has had the same coach. In 1919, George Buchheit became the new head coach of the Wildcats. Buchheit remained as coach through the 1924 season before moving on to coach Trinity College (later known as Duke University).
