I'm from Lewis County and with russellpride on some points. When trying to build a program and increase numbers, you schedule down. That's the case with us this year, we have a nice group of seniors, good numbers, but after that, the numbers drop. So Coach Hughes has developed somewhat of an "easier" schedule hoping for more wins, and more enthusiasm and excitement being brought back to the program like their was in the 70s and 80s. But I think that boat has sailed for Fairview. They have proven that they can beat the local bigger, but mediocre at the same time, football programs. Arguing that it's not Fairview's fault that East Carter, West Carter, and Lewis County are bad(which West Carter wasn't this past year) is an excuse, and a lame one at that IMHO. LC, WC, and EC have never had outstanding football programs. East has had a couple of winning seasons here and there but have never been able to maintain stability and consistency in the program. This year was West Carter's first winning season since 1986. Lewis County hasn't had a winning season since 1988. Neither WC, or LC have ever won a playoff game. I understand saying that Fairview is playing bigger schools, but play the bigger, and better schools such as Mason County, Lawrence County, Ashland, Russell, Rowan County. All of these would be great games to show how Fairview measures up and all of these schools are at least 2 class sizes bigger than Fairview. Just like West Carter, Lewis County, and East Carter.
