I think the punishment fits the crime in this case. If the NCAA reduces the suspension for Morris to 8 or 10 games, what message would that send to the other players out there. Instead of taking their name out of the NBA draft by the deadline some may decide to see if they would be drafted. They would have to consider their options stay in the draft and if they were not drafted they could apply for reinstatement provided they did not sign a contract with an agent with only a short suspension.
A player may remove there name from the draft if they realize that they might have to set out a year.
