Explain? Your pivot foot is the one remaining in contact with the floor after the opposing foot is moved. If you want to go left side of the defensive player, your right leg would move first to create a barrier to protect the dribble, thus your left foot would be the pivot foot. If you go to the right side of the defensive player, your left leg would move first to create a barrier to protect the dribble, thus our right foot would be your pivot foot. You attack the leading leg of the opposing player by using a different pivot foot. But our referees in this area do not accept this concept. If the player moves his foot to the rear before he moves forward, then he has established his pivot foot at that time, example: He picks up his right leg and takes a small step to the rear to get separation from the opposing player, his left foot is his pivot foot. He can not move that foot unless he dribbles the basketball.
