The decline of the Paintsville High School football program cannot be solely placed at the feet of their coach Jason Kinner.Coach Kinner came into the chief leadership of the program with little coaching and no head coaching experience. He took the helm of a historically verile program where once proudly played. Most young would jump at that opportunity and I am sure he did. Mr. Kinner was prematurely employed by a system with Economics and politics on it's mind.It was my understanding that a viable alternative was placed on the table prior to the 08 season. This option would have brought a short term coach to the program that had several years of experience and much knowledge of the game.A mentorship program for a few years was proposed and after a few years the change would have been made. Obviously this did not happen.
Coach Kinner's first season at Paintsville was 6-6 including two playoff games. Not great but acceptable under the circumstances. Following the 08 and before the 09 season, the coach was sidetracked to Fla. where he adopted the "Walter Mitty" spread. This must have been where the coach went Awry and the rest has been recent history. Coach Kinner must accept responsibility for the the progress of his teams. It would appear that the system that created this sinero would have the majority of culpability in the failure to produce. It would appear that just a few changes could have brought better results. For instance an 09 Pikeville staff fully expected to take one on the chin at a wet, muddy Memorial Field. Instead the infamous spread took it's toll. Coach Kinner as I have said before is a nice young man with a wonderful family. On this issue he may have to punt. What ever happens please don't blame the kids.
