Perfect example of this are schools like Lex. Christian, and Beechwood. Both teams have great football programs.....Both have been to the State finals in baseball Several Times... with Lex Christian winning it a few years back, and they both compete well on the basketball floor. I think Ironton is another school that does well in all sports.

Any white smoke coming out of the high school at Greenup yet?

Adkins is a great coach but doesnt even have a teaching degree to my knowledge. I bet the brain trust at GC doesnt even know this.
Im also told that the hiring committee has just been added to a long going lawsuit by Coach Hicks.
Per the BOE by-laws. Hicks is not allowed to be hired. So how could the hiring committee have done anything wrong? Why would they give him interview when he can't be hired? None of this sounds right.

Will Greenup have a coach by June 1???? Geeezzzz

GC is an elite program in this state and it shouldn't be this hard to find a great coach that wants to come here, maybe they should explore outside the state, but hire a young guy that has enthusiasm and something to prove, don't hire some old geezer that the players won't connect with, basketball is new generation with old school values, if Butler can be lead to the national championship game by a young coach, then it should be okay for GC to hire a young coach, coaching needs some young blood and not the same old same old...

Not just flirted with it. Thelma and Louise, Butch and Sundanced over it! GC isn't even an elite program within it's own county.:lmao:

I am hearing Keith Adkins but it is true he doesnt have a teaching degree.

GC needs some stability with the next coach, someone they can count on for the next five years, if they can find that person, without a doubt they are an elite program, they dominate this county...year in and year out!!

Will it be announced tomorrow who the next coach will be?

I believe they actually DID hire Hampton the last time, he took the job, drove back home to Vanceburg, changed his mind, called Greenup Co. back and turned the job down!!

I've always hoped to be pre-ranked. What the frig is pre-ranked? They have won the district, by a hair I might add, once recently. They have a front line of 6'5"plus kids and won once. Elite? Give me a break. And elite wouldn't have laid an egg first round in the region. Elite, that's too funny. And you know what? I'm from Greenup, Lloyd to be exact. I support the program completely. Seldom do I agree with the way things are done, but I support it. But I'm also not retarded enough to think that Steve Skaggs and Mike Scott are gonna be in the lineup this fall. Elite??? They have set the standard for mediocrity since the little General left.

Actually how good of a job is this? Looking back at the past 10 seasons Greenup has failed to achieve a 20 win season and Elliott, Russell, East Carter, Blazer, Rowan, Morgan, and Rose Hill have each won a regional title. 136-139 record over the past decade.

You must be guilty of wrong doing and or released for [B]JUST CAUSE. Neither of these were found in the Hicks investigation. Therefore, Hicks can apply for and be considered for the position.
The BOE is on very thin "ice".
Dynasty
GC has won the District twice in the past ten years. Once under Hicks and once under Fraley. Not exactly what I would call an "elite" program. After all, the 16th is one of, if not, the weakest reagion in the state.

What would you say the reason is behind GC only winning two district titles the past ten years? Coaching? Administration? BOE? Players? Parents? or
A Combination?
I believe that GC is an elite program, growing up watching the little general run the program is what makes me a believer!!
At the moment it might not be considered an Elite Program, but if I was ever given the chance to "run the show" the rest would be history!!

GC wants to be a football school so bad that they will go to any lengths to get there. In the past 24 years, the closest they have been is when McPeek was there. Do you remember that when this bunch was in middle school, Rose Hill cleaned their clocks ( Mckell and Wurtland ) twice.
The administration is the achilles heel as far as basketball is concerned. They haven't backed a coach for almost a quarter century.
When the General was at GC, they owned (especially Russell) the 63rd district. Coach Ward was, is and should be the Man.
As far as coaches go, Cooksey, Hicks and Fraley have all three built programs and won District titles.
By the way, what would you do to make it history?

Walleye...
Build a dynasty...a place where players around the county would want to play. Run the program, like I've seen run at other big time systems. Play uptempo, but still under control, press, change up traps/zones(scramble defense as it is called) and run the triangle offense(triple post) out of a two guard front as the main offense. Depending on the personal and strengths, run some sets to get your best players the ball in the best scoring position or isolation plays, could also implement a series of the Princeton offense or 5 man open post motion to get a look like the Dribble Drive or Screen and Replace that Huggins runs at WVU. The gym would be open anytime the state would allow to work on fundamentals, which would make all of this possible. Did that answer your question?

Not to mention, now Mckell and Wurtland are together. I dont know what RH beating GC in middle school has to do with anything. But RH pretty much beat everyone that year.

i didmt say they were an elite progam in the state. but when you win districts its hard to disagree with them being a quality program.

Waylon Jennings
GC has always had the talent to be an elite program in the state, so I still think they are an elite program...anyways...another site said that McCoy was in town to decide if he was going to take the job...has anyone heard anything?

I believe what Walleye was saying, and with his example of Rose Hill, is that GC hasn't been a consistant strength in football for 25 years. Just don't try to build a football program at the expense of basketball......

Its my understanding that GC is looking for a coach that will work well with all sports not just football. Ask anyone in the area and they will tell you that if GC can all work together and get all the kids out for all the sports they will be a dominate force in every sport.
05-02-2010, 12:46 PM
I'm hearing where RANDY MCCOY coached last season, they have to forfeit two games this coming season, is that the reason he is jumping ship? Why do the kids have to accept the punishment, but the head coach can just leave without any consequences? Are we going to face any consequences for this?
