Source: Gomes To Re-Join Reds On 1-Year Deal
#1
Free agent outfielder Jonny Gomes has reached agreement on a one-year major league contract with the Cincinnati Reds, a baseball source told ESPN.com.

The deal, which includes a second option year, will be complete once Gomes passes a physical exam.

Gomes, 29, hit 20 homers in 281 at-bats for the Reds last season. He arrived at the Reds' clubhouse in Goodyear, Ariz., on Monday morning to take his physical.

Gomes has 86 homers and a .471 slugging percentage in seven seasons with Tampa Bay and Cincinnati. He's expected to add some power and experience to a young Cincinnati outfield that currently consists of Jay Bruce in right field, Drew Stubbs in center and Chris Dickerson, Laynce Nix and Wladimir Balentien in left. The Cubs had expressed interest in Gomes earlier this offseason, but chose to sign Xavier Nady as a right-handed outfield bat. The terms of Gomes' deal with the Reds weren't immediately available.

Glad to see this happen. This was a big concern for the Reds this off season and the fact that it is resolved going into Spring Training is big. Is it just me or does there seem to be a rare sense of stability within the organization at the major league level going into the Spring?

They need a good bat like his.

coming from a fan of one of there rivals, Chicago Cubs, i think they need New People in the office that knows how to run a program, because they can't win the games they need to, in order to make it to the post season
