Shelby Valley's annual weak schedule, don't stroke out
#1
I honestly want to know... I, like everyone else on here that isn't related to, and/or went to school with, and/or from Pike Co., and/or a cousin, uncle, niece, nephew, etc., etc. to a Valley player...... Why is Booher afraid to beef up the schedule? Not bashing, honest question. Valley has had a pretty good team for the last 4 seasons yet they never play anyone of merit within the state. Again, don't hate me for asking the obvious.. I Know how kids are, and I'm sure they would like to play the best......Is Booher all about piling him up some w's against weak teams?
#2
They played Christian County, Miller Grove, GA, The Kingdom of the Sun tournament, The Mountain Classic, All "A" state tournament, North Laurel, will play Perry Central, what else do you want? They are geographically handicapped.
#3
Why does others around the state get bent out of shape with Valley and other teams playing very good out of state teams instead of very good in state teams. What is the difference? Except noone can compare who is better in the state rankings. What about Elliott's schedule over the past 4 years? How many championships have they won? ZERO! You need to worry about how Elliott is going to get out of their own district or region and quit worrying about others in a different region.

I guess Elliott had the hardest schedule ever huh hog?

Please show me where I said that.............Didn't think so, maybe you need put on your big boy underwear this one time, I simply asked a question, an honest one. But since you wanted to drag Elliott into it. I'd say the schedule they played the two seasons before this one was a lot better schedule than what valley has played. You do realize that last year alone in the regular season they played, Ballard, Mason, South Charleston, (Wva state champ), the Tx. state champ at the Beach Ball Classic, sorry the name escapes me. Not to mention they beat the greatest team ever, last year's edition of Valley at the Sweet Sixteen. Again, I just asked why Booher don't play anyone in state.....

Wva. state champion, Tx. state champion, Mason, Ballard, Anderson, and Valley.....I guess that is weak compared to pike, pike central, paintsville, lawrence, Naugatuck, and Johnson Central:igiveup:

Elliott's 2007-2008 schedule

Played a Rose Hill team with 2 current Scott Co. starters, the team that won the Wva state championship in South Charleston, A Mason Co. team that won the Sweet Sixteen, a Cov. Cath. team that beat Mason Co., and a Christian Co. team that road a bus across the state and but a big boot right in the pit of some Valley arse right there in their gym with 15th region officials.... Much like my last post I see what you mean, I can see where Booher really mans up and plays the best in state.:worthy:

Whew, I'm glad it's back to EC/SV *****-fest instead of rocks being thrown at each from Holmes/SV fans

They know Holmes is out of their league Stardust, thats why they jump on me when I ask a simple question. You would think as a school with twice the enrollment they would have something better to crow about than winning an all "A" (notice the lack of another "A") tournament. But take heart......Valley fans are kinda like cicadas. They come around about once a generation and make a lot of racket, then they go silent again. I suspect that when their 8 seniors graduate, they will go dormant.....Much like a cicada.

But we really haven't.Go back to sleep until Elliott has something again, if that ever happens.

Let me see if I get the picture? If I were a coach with a talented team I could travel Ky. during the winter and play basketball with my team like I did all summer or 1. I could travel to New York and play great competition, 2. see the sights of the World's greatest city, 3. spend New Year's Eve at Times Square 4. I could fly to Fla. 5. play great competition 6. see Disney World 7. walk on the beach 8. soak up some sun 9. spend a week without electricity in a winter storm 10. worry what someone thinks of my schedule.

I choose 1-8

Hats off to any school who provide a great learning experience along with playing ball.

I am not going to bash Elliott County because they have a nut for a fan. They actually are surprisingly good despite losing the heart of the team. Why isn't he promoting his team instead of trying to rile up SV fans? I am not going to stoop to his level and tell him what he really is. LOL.

They have played four out of state teams I know nothing about, but they lost two of those four and the other two were close. So aside from those games they have played/will play three solid opponents.

Knott Central(21-5)
Christian County(22-4)
will play Perry Central(17-7)

That's without mentioning their All A games. They have played in four tournaments, so why would their coach want to schedule teams like Holmes, Scott County, etc, when he has to go to Florida, play in the WYMT, and the two All A tournaments? They have played 25 games, 14 of those games have been classic's or tournament games. So with 11 remaining games would you want to schedule power houses?

This is hilarious. Shelby Valley fans do not come around once a generation. Since 2002, Shelby Valley has won 5 Region Championships, 3 All A Region Championships, and 2 All A State Titles. Not to mention since the 99-00 season Shelby Valley probably has the best winning percentage in the state and probably the most wins in the state in this time period.

Shelby Valley isn't some one hit wonder that just became good overnight. They have been good for 10+ years now, and the fans have been along for the entire ride.

I can't answer about the schedule, but I can say it isn't as weak as you like to think. Could it be stronger? Of course, but it could also be a lot weaker. Either way it won't make a huge difference come March. This team will be well prepared either way.

First I am a 57th district fan. However, Shelby Valley will have trouble winning a "Sweet 16 Championship" playing teams they beat by 20+ points the majority of their schedule. Not bashing just my opinion. They don't get better by playing a hard schedule from Nov.-Jan. You get better by playing the best you can in Feb.

However, some of this isn't all their fault. They can't help that the 15th Region is sooooo weak. Pikeville, who is the second best team in the region just lost by 40 at home to SV. SV would advance to Sweet 16 if they combined all the other teams best players and played them in the region tournament all 3 games. They are that good!
The only teams in the Mountains that have a shot SV are Knott Co. Central and Perry Co. Central. The rest of them can't compete either.

I don't blame SV for going to NY, FL, or SC this a chance for the kids to enjoy life and grow as a group. Sometimes life is more about other things than basketball. Could they have played games here in KY? Sure, but they would have missed out on other things. I don't have a problem with their scheduling, IT MUST BE WORKING they have won two Class A championships, and been to the Sweet 16 all but two or three times in 10 years! I just don't think they play good enough teams down the stretch to prepare them to win the Sweet 16. Best of luck though in trying, would love to see the championship come back to 15th Region.

Boy, I bet you wish this were the case... Rolleyes

You obviously are speaking as someone who knows very little about basketball outside your 16th region world. If you were a little more knowledgeable, you would know that Shelby Valley didn't just pop up overnight. They have been a regional powerhouse for the last 10 years, winning 5 region titles (hopefully 6 in a few weeks) during that span. That's not just some flash in the pan, even if you'd like to make it sound like that.

As for next year, I do expect Valley to take a step back. They probably won't contend for the regional title for a couple years (although they'll be back in it sooner rather than later). But no matter what, I'll still be on here, as will the majority of the well-known Valley posters on this site. Get used to us, we're not going away...

Hog, you really do have some issues. I mean why even bring this topic up for a team that has played the required regional teams and district teams... I mean they play the best mountain teams in the mountain classic, some of the best clubs in the all a, and a top team in the state in Christian Co. Really man, you make yourself look foolish.

Geographically challenged is not an excuse...last time I checked they had some roads and some buses that would allow the team to travel...they should have been in the Republic Bank Classic and the King of the Bluegrass...no excuses...

As was said earlier it is about geography. How many Lexington and Louisville teams will drive to Shelby Valley when they have good competition close by? If SV drives to one of these places it would have to be on a weekend. The cost for buses and drivers is very high. You pay the driver from the time you leave until you get back. KHSAA has a limit on games and tournaments, I believe 2 tournaments per year is the limit. The 7th and 11th have so many good teams it is easy to schedule and not travel very far. I have no affilitaion with Shelby Valley but a weak schedule has nothing to do with not wanting to play good teams. These players traveled in Middle School where the rules are easier. They play AAU with the best in the state. It's just not that easy to schedule the best teams when they are that far away. Our middle school team at Johnson Central is pretty good. I know we went to Fleming Co and Frankfort and try to play the best teams in our area. Our conference was good this year which helped and people outside our area will probably say that we played a weak schedule.

Regardless of the schedule... the next month will be a true test of how good this team is. Making it to Rupp and winning it all are two completely different things. There are a lot of good teams standing in their way.
