Kentucky is not respected....
#31
Kentucky never gets any respect from any of the major tv announcers. I think the first question they ask before they hire them is, "How bad to you dislike Kentucky Basketball?"

Nevertheless, Kentucky is a top 5 team no doubt. I have watched several Kansas, Nova,Cuse, WVU and Texas games this year. Sometimes they all look great and sometimes not. The bottom line is they are no team out there that is THAT much better than the others in the top 10.

We should just be proud that Kentucky is back in the hunt! FINALLY.

Bobby Knight is a bitter old man who would not admit it if UK was ten points better on its worse night than any other team in the country. If UK is not the top team in the country at this time, the gap between them and any other team is a small one and it will not get any bigger.
Well, UK has had a few of those games too. They shouldnt have beaten Miami (OH), they beat Sam Houston State by 10, the Auburn and Georgia games werent impressive, as well as a couple of others...they are young and get complacent during the game. They start out fast and take their foot off the gas, and against teams like Syracuse, that would be a recipe for disaster. If they played Syracuse, it would be a close game at first, then Syracuse would make adjustments and run away with it. Dont get me wrong, they are a top 5 team. Theres no question at all about that, but I dont see them beating Syracuse, or staying within 10 of them..thats just my opinion though. Ive seen Syracuse play several times this year, and IMHO, they are hands down the best team Ive seen..I do agree with you, they just keep winning, and thats the name of the game, and I hope you are right and Im wrong if the Cats hooked up with the Orange. I would gladly love to eat crow if the Cats won, lol..

greenstuff22 Wrote:it's pretty simple, no one knows who can beat who til they play. saying cuse and ku would beat UK is a prediction. and last time i checked those dont mean a whole lot. im sure alot of people picked pitt to win at syracuse and uconn to kill texas, and gtown to roll duke. actually, i highly doubt anyone picked those. so basically, if you can honestly say you picked syracuse to beat pitt then you picked them because they are ranked high and have good talent, so with that being said there is no reason why uk couldnt beat anyone, anytime, anyday. so there. predictions mean nothing, the numbers mean nothing. anyone can win, anytime.

:flush:: If you get that worked up over someones opinion against KY not being the best team, Then you might have a very emotional NCAA tourney.

You certainly are not alone in noticing the bias the announcers show in UK games ,if I had to guess I would say that during UK's games after the loss to SC they have mentioned that loss over 100 times LOL ,Like the late great Dale Earnhardt once said as long as they are making noise I am doing something right.
The teams we have faced on the schedule have given UK their absolute best shot as opposed to teams playing lower ranked teams.
Beating UK this year SC acted as if they had just won a final 4 game. This speaks for its self.

But on a side note. We have been told every big game we have went to play we was going to loose because were not mature enough. Bull i say. We could beat kansas, syracuse, or nova any given night,

Im no UK fan but I agree with you 100%

i personally think all top 4 or 5 teams are even at this point

We can schedule every team from this year's top team for next season but that doesn't mean they will all be ranked next year. So like I said it is not UK's fault the teams that we play are horrible.

We knew UConn was down and Louisville was down...So were is that tough game???Why not play like texas and Villanova Syracuse teams you knew were good?

I've not read through the thread but UK gets A LOT of respect and hype. During the last few years when we were down, we were still acknowledged as one of the best jobs and programs in college bball.
Right now, you can't watch a game without them mentioning UK or John Wall. UK gets a lot of love on espn.
Most of the espn announcers think Kansas is on a different level than UK,but we all know thats crazy. I don't even think KU is a top 3 team. I'd take UK, Cuse, and Nova over them.

Carolina was a pre season top 5 if Im not mistaken. UConn was pre season top 10 if Im not mistaken. Even your sorryass Cards were pre season ranked.......if Im not mistaken. Its not UK's fault nobody held their end of the bargain..the schedule looked very formidable at the beginning of the season..

Not last night during the UNC and duke game. Dookie V never brought up Kentucky or any other high ranked team. It was always his partner who would bring up UK. It was all UNC and Duke. Like he said "Duke and Carolina nothing could be finer." Now if he had been calling any other game with out these two he would have discussed UNC or Duke. Did everyone like how he said Scheyer from Duke should be player of the year. Hard to believe he would pick anyone from the ACC.

Syracuse beat Depaul by 2 and they almost blew a big lead at home against UConn, but you can't see UK staying within 10 of them? Don't get me wrong, Syracuse might be UK by 10 or 20 but the margin could just as easily go the other way in UK's favor. I have not seen any invincible teams this season.

Well UNC/Duke is the best rivarly in college bball he has a right to be talking about that game and not mention UK during it.

Just because they mention Kentucky doesn't mean that it's good! Most of the time when i have heard them mention UK on a non UK game its how Kentucky hasn't proved themselves to be a Top 5 team and how they have no real legit wins that makes them a Top 5 team after UNONN and UNC dropped out of the Top 25! And thats why Baseball Man started the thread is because the announcers give no respect to the Wildcats!

Well, do they? It's a fair question, and I am a UK fan. I'm worried about our schedule preparing us for a tough game!

That wasn't really the point of this thread but I think so, they beat UCONN and UNC when they were ranked and I think the win over UCONN is going to start to look alot better now that Coach Calhoun is back! Also we have wins over Vanderbilt and we just beat Tennessee tonight!

If it wasn't for those teams being so bad, our SOS would be a lot higher.

Amun-Ra Wrote:The point is that these teams may not be in the top 25 now but they was when we played them or when we scheduled them. It is not our fault that after we beat UConn dropped liek 15 straight or that UNC has lost every game since. The point is these games were quality wins at the time they was played.

Good posts. At the beginning of the season, UK's schedule looked very formidable with UConn, Louisville, and UNC all ranked in the top 20 in pretty much every poll out there.

We "knew" UConn was down and Louisville was down? Wow, that's amazing, considering every poll and publication out there had both teams ranked in the preseason top 20. When UK made out the schedule, they didn't know that both those teams would go in the tank.

Let's say UK scheduled Villanova or Syracuse, since we "knew" they were good. What if either of them didn't live up to their preseason expectations either? You can't wait until the season starts to see who the elite teams are, then try to make the schedule out. You do the best you can to predict who will offer your team a challenging game, and that's what the UK folks did.

And don't even bring up Drexel. You know as well as I do that EVERY elite school plays teams like that, not just UK. Kansas, Syracuse, Villanova, etc., they've all got cupcakes on the schedule. NOBODY plays all tough games, otherwise you would have nothing left by the end of the year.

I think when **** Vitale has something good to say about Uk, they are respected! I mean all he talked about last night was UK! and all the other announcers with exception of bob knight has jumped on the bandwagon..and bob knight has nothing to say good about anybody! I really dont see where you get there not respected

Vitale loves Kentucky. Of course he loves Carolina, Duke, as well as a few other schools, but he loves UK too. Vitale is just a fan of college basketball..I agree that he can be annoying, but I dont think he shows overwhelming favoritism (sp?) calling games..Billy Packer? Now theres a different beast. Now that he's gone from CBS, Clark Kellogg carries the torch proudly. Now I WILL say that Kellogg shows favoritism during games.

It would be great to have Bobby Knight doing color commentary for a UK title run. UK fans would have to endure a lot of pain just to watch Knight's face as the Cats cut down the nets - but no pain, no gain.
