Final from the EXPO. Gatlin Clark leads Pikeville with 17. Wes Rowe added 12. Pikeville dominated from about midway through the 2nd until the subs came in, in the 4th. It could've been worse but the Panthers only connected on 6 of 21 FTAs. They held JC to 20 points through the first 3 quarters. Really good perfromance by the Panthers. Gotta keep it rolling and win the games left on the schedule. Wins over East Ridge and LC would be huge going into the postseason.
Hail Pikeville!
Hail Pikeville!

Sounds like another great defensive effort by Pikeville...

How is Pikeville playing all these games in the Expo? They renting it that much?

Wow, JC with 10 points over 2 quarters. You won't win many games with that output

Is JCentral's coach on the chopping block. This has been a disappointing season for them, they usually look for a change. Plus, word has it Coach has lost control of his players.

Looks like JC emptied the bench in this one....Why move it to the Expo?:popcorn:That took any home court advantage away JC may have had.....

Good win for Pikeville. This team if they can make it to the regionals, will make a strong run to the title game.

Looks to me like Coach Mckenzie has let one player constantly exhibit a negative attitude. The player uses profane language loudly enough to be heard in the stands while in time outs, actually push assistant coaches, and when things don't go his way, he basically quits on the team. He tries to be a one man show, and when he can't score, he basically quits. He has gotten several technicals this year.
I think this players attitude has caused the other players to loose respect for Coach Mckenzie, and it show in their efforts.....and for the most of the players, they could care less if they win or loose. It's almost like JC coaches are afraid this player might leave and go to another school, so he can do ANYTHING he wants and get by with it. This team has lots of talent, but I think the coaches have let this get out of hand, and therefore a very good team looks terrible on the floor.
This season is basically gone, I think JC is 4 and 12. I think if I were Coach Mckenzie, I would get rid of my problem players and bad attitudes and build for the future...... before he looses it all.
If he doesn't wake up, he is going to let the attitudes of a couple of players cost him a future of coaching at JC.

You are so right on...

IMO, it was the same way last year with JC... one or 2 players with the "attitudes" you speak of and they were allowed to run the show. Only difference is there was more talent there to begin with.

Congrats to Pikeville on the win.
I think you about hit the nail on the head. Coach M is paid to handle these problems and he has not. The loss of an assistant to less than a desirable situation did not help the attitude. You are right this year is a loss. Nothing against Coach M, but there are alot of good coaches out there that could come in and handle these issues and win. JC should be the best job in the 57th. No excuse for what has happend. In the real world if you have a job and get paid and do not perform you get fired, no excuses.

Where is JK Hall?

JK has a broken hand last I heard.

Outsider looking in - JC should be the best job in the 15th PERIOD.
BUT I got to ask this question, can Coach M handle things the way he wants? I mean is he allowed to get rid of problems? If he gets rid of them will the BOE take offense?

Agreed.
Biggest school in the region, probably EKY. Also have plenty of athletic kids that I know can play some ball walking through those hallways. Also Johnson County has produced some very talented basketball players whether they played at JC or Paintsville. So there's not really any reason for JC to ever not be a top 3 team in the region, although teams do have their down seasons.

Wouldn't it be something if BMR took the job at JC? Although I highly doubt this would happen now that he's getting into politics.

The absolute saddest part of this entire JC sitution is that they ran off a very good coach in Coach Starns because he was trying to deal with these exact problems. He sent some kids packing people complained and since he was an outsider he was given the boot. He took a Central team to the state tournament that had way less talent than this one. Until some one stands up to the outsiders that want to run this program and the administration backs them up its going to continue to be this way. I said it earlier in the season and I will say it again JC is the biggest disappointment in the region.

Starns was not run off and he was not given the boot. He quit on his team in the middle of the season once and was allowed to come back, and then quit a second time after his second season was over. Starns was a complete idiot in regards as someone being capable of carrying on an intelligent conversation with anybody. He couldn't communicate with anyone, including assistant coaches, players ,fans, parents, or administration.
While I wont disagree with him making an effort to try to impliment discipline, it was often only used when it was convenient for himself. If it meant costing him a chance to win, he canned the pretense more than once.He was very hypocritical in that regard. But I will give him credit on a strong work ethic, that I cant deny or condemn. I also will not either deny that he did not encounter some outside interference. That I know is fact, too. But when it came right down to it, Starnes mentally, was not playing with a full deck.
And as far as far less talent. You cant be serious. While I wont say that that was the most talented team that ever played at JC, they were head and shoulders about this group. You did have shooters that could shoot the lights out and had ball handlers on that squad. They were quick and fast. There was some basketball talent. There is not one single player other than Parker that I can claim as having any basketball talent whatsoever this year. Also in 2006, the 15th region was just as weak as it is now in 2010.
