Thought Mason Co would win by more.

Ashland led through the first half.

Close game all the way. Ashland shot a fairly low percentage (probably around 35%), which was due (in part) to Mason's defense.

Setty went down with an injury (looked like his back), but he came back late in the third quarter. He played well down the stretch, but the real key to Mason is their two guards.

Good game to watch.

You do realize this is probably the worst Mason County team to take the floor night in and night out since before the Lofton era, right?

No disrespect to any of the players giving it their all every night, but this has been a team put together with duct tape from day 1 because of all the injuries. This was an inexperienced team even before all the setbacks.

The days of Mason County blowing out anyone are over, every game is going to be a battle. They just don't have the offense to blow anyone away, but they can still play some great defense and it's how they get a win like they did tonight.

Not according to the Mason Co fans. Alot of pre-season hype, and Cats Pause rating them #1 in the 10th.( yes I know it is written by a Mason Co supportor).

Gilbert with 2 points??? Did he play much in this game?

Nice win for Mason Co.

He was on the floor for most of the game. He really didn't take that many shots, but his ballhandling was excellent (as usual). He missed a couple of open threes, which really surprised me. He's normally money on shots like that.

Congrats Mason County.

If they want all the hype towards them then Mason Co has to live up towards the hype but right now they are not living up to the pre-season #1 ranking or the hype there getting right now. But i can see both sides of the argument i mean being ranked #1 pre-season majority has to do with them winning the 10th region last year and returning players like Lang, Setty, Gilbert, and Black was a big role too, Also when these rankings came out they still had that kid who got hurt in football who was a real good basketball player, plus the tradition of winning that Mason Co has is like none other compared to any other high school in KY. BUT IMO Mason is not as good as GRC, Scott High played with Mason all the way till late in the 4th, Campbell Co beat Mason, (Scott just beat Campbell Co by 20+), Bishop Brossart played Mason real tough till late in the 4th as well, Also Mason has been in a fight with every team they have played against and luckily for Mason Co the results have came out on the positive side for The Royals.

But to finish this...Mason Co is the defending 10th region champions, so till there is a new champion IMO they are the top dogs in the 10th right now (even though i think GRC is a fantastic ball club), But WINNING IS A HABIT AND LOSING IS A HABIT and right now the way Mason Co is playing they better keep fighting hard like the have been and keep winning or LOSING will become a habit for The Royals

Totally disagree with this. That was last year, rankings should be on what has happened this year. Holmes is not ranked #1 in the state, They are defending Champs. Also by your reasoning then UK shouldn't be ranked # 1, if they win this weekend, North Carolina should, they are defending National Champs. Again totally disagree with your reasoning.

Good win for Mason.

I know this won't be recieved well with the Royals posters but, Ashland should have at least one out of the the two games with Mason in the win column this year. They managed to make the first game in the AIT very close at the end, but this last meeting could very well have gone to Ashland if they had been more disciplined (at least as much as they normally are) in the 2nd half. Moving the ball, reversing the ball, managing the ball on offense the way Ashland did against Fairview for instance, is when they look the best IMHO

Is it possible that Mason forced Ashland to be less disciplined? Usually a team does not play their game due to what the other team is showing them on defense.

Just giving Ashland a little credit where credit is due. I thought the passing lanes were open, and that doesn't take anything away from Mason. Both games were competitive by anyone's definition. If just one game had been close between them it would be hard to support what I said but, they were both close with the one played at your gym being the closest. Congratulations on the win, I thought the Royals earned it.

I agree with Gap on this, but Dusty also has a valid point.

Far too often, teams (fans especially) fail to give the other team credit for how a game plays out. It isn't only what one team is doing out there on the floor (or field). The five guys in the other color jersey's have an impact on what you do, and what success you enjoy.

PS - is it just me, or does it look like Dusty has been working out? Those abs are really coming around for you, Dusty.

I see your point and agree with you, this year rankings should be on what happens this year and they are i think i mean Trinity is #1 and they are playing great basketball just like most of the other teams in the top 25 are playing great basketball, BUT what i was referring to was the pre-season rankings what can the base that on besides last season, the players playing this year, and like it was said previously said on this post it does help Mason Co that the Cat Pause writer is a Mason Co supporter (maybe i didnt make that clear and im sorry but i meant the pre-season rankings)

And Gold Charger i can tell your a GRC fan, supporter, alum, whatever but what i said earlier wasn't a slam on GRC they are a fantastic team...I even said earlier that GRC was the better team than Mason Co this season

No problem. The preseason should not be on what last years team done, unless they have most returning. Mason Co lost Middleton,Downing, Hamn and Barner. And it is showing this year. Preseason should be based on the talent returning for each team.
