Now, now A_Ray... overconfidence will NOT help you out any at all when it comes to the game.... Smile

BTW, this topic is NOT about SC/Belfry... It is about Belfry for the upcoming year of 2010.... Let's keep it on topic!!

Lets just say that you guys do just as good next year. I
have seen what all the middle schools around here have that
means Martin Co. to and all JV teams. In another 25 years its
going to be 25 and 3 Belfry. I guess you could say i was on one
of the teams that beat Belfry in the last 50 years. Thats is why
Shawn will quit after next year and Belfry will still be KING.

Yeah. I can say my Junior year we beat them out of the 2nd round wonder how that felt. I'm sure he will be somewhere else after my senior year hes way to good of a coach to take a beating like that. 25-3 Belfry??

Belfry people take things way offensive. :].
#64
A.Ray.... I don't think Belfry "people" take things way too offensive....., they just take pride in a tradition that has been built in Belfry football and in the program itself. The time, dedication, fan base, history, everything packaged up into one big thing called Pirate football is what makes Belfry what it is. I'm sure other schools feel the same about their programs and will continue to build on their history as Belfry does with theirs. The thing about Coach Hager.... He has been a lucky man to have been a part of 2 great programs.... ONE---- He IS a Pirate and played for Belfry... TWO---- He is huge part of the success that SC has had in the past few years.... He is a dedicated coach and evidently he learned well playing in ole' Pirate land... wouldn't you say?? teehee.... Now, hopefully that is all cleared up... If Coach Hager leaves SC... at least he will leave a tradition to be carried on by his replacement .... As for Coach Haywood.... he will also eventually retire and move on and there will be a replacement for him as well.... He will also leave a legacy, tradition, history, and to be honest, a void in all the faithfull Belfry Pirate fans within the Pond Creek Nation.... BUT, there has to be another coach be able to step up and carry on with all the great things for Belfry football.... Either way it goes, SC feels the same about their football as Belfry does.... Being proud of your program is NOT something to be ashamed of..... it's something to be vocal about and show your pride in.... Not being offensive in this post, just speaking about the future, the happenings, and football... Smile Gotta love it!!!

oneijoe Wrote:I think you're exactly right. But it's far easier to say than actually do...

WRs fast enough to get good separation from man coverage will, in Belfry's system, end up on the depth chart for HB. And TE's mobile enough to get downfield will end up on the depth chart for FB.

It's a case of where do you need what talent you have the most. In Coach Haywood's offense, the WR is low on the list of priorities. That's not to say Coach Haywood won't play a more open style when personel dictate(when Francisco (sp?) played QB), but it isn't his preference or what he coaches best.

Confusedhh:

Pretty fair assessment. In the mid 80's...Belfry did throw it around dramatically more than they do now. However, they also ran the option more...if that's actually possible. Francisco was/has been the best option QB at Belfry over the past 25 years. He also had a couple of receiving threats in Mernie Gilliam and Jimmy Stepp...who could both run and catch.

At a school the size of Belfry...it's pretty difficult to find enough kids for the required skill sets to be strong in both the running and passing game. So as a coach you pick your poison. Haywood's attack running game has been pretty successful.

From a blocking perspective...while Belfry excels at point of contact drive blocking, pull, trap and block and release......they really never have been able to grasp solid pass blocking techniques. Again, different skill sets, different coaching techniques..etc, etc.

I love all that I'm hearing about.... what sounds like..... a very solid group of young players.

Whether their abilities will signal a change in philosophy...that's another matter.

It'll take some very special athletes to see a significant change in Belfry's offensive priorities.

Belfry will be fine.... They will have what they need in the young men they have to work with......... and their dedication and hard work will show next season!!

Is Belfry just satisfied by just winning district now? And not region?

Ahh the Arizona Cardinals beat out my Packers last week :/. We wrestled Belfry yesterday in a dual at Letcher Central. Why does the school not hire anyone with expierence? And our new helmets came in, they are sweet. White acrelyic with glitter. :]]. Everyone excited about traveling to our place next year? Im thinking we are supposed to be extending the bleacher area and rennovating the restroom area.
#82
A_Ray, I have been to the Rock a few times and renovating the restrooms is overdue. I am not sure where the funds would come from, but resolving that issue would be a tremendous boost to the Sheldon Clark facilities. I most certainly hope that that project is accomplished.

Also, glad to hear that you guys received your new helmets.

Based upon some things I've heard, you guys should do well this coming season. Good Luck!

Belfry is doing decent for their first year in wrestling, Coleman is the coach he's a young guy but I know was coaching in 04 because he's in the team picture so he's been around awhile also seen him with headsets this year on the sideline. I'd say wrestling is being used to keep those football guys that don't play basketball in shape they may be legit in a few years though give em some time to figure it out. As for football next year we have a good senior class not a lot of skill, should be better defensively and up front since that's where the returning player are coming from.
#84
There is another team will give Belfry and SC a run and they better not over look them and that is pike. I was thinking back PCC gave Belfry all they wanted and Sheldon also.

I would give a year or two and they will be back on top again.

I saw belfry play last year. varney and maynard had alot of talent.
they sign with anyone?

I feel like belfry hasn't been this hungry to win a regional championship in years those boys have been HARD at work since before pike central and sheldon clark even played in the regional championship last year!
