Was Johnson Central the 2nd Best Team in 5A?
Hoot Gibson Wrote:Turnovers beat JC in their early games and they improved in that area. Still, JC played Highlands pretty even in the regional finals before their offense began coughing it up in the third quarter.

I don't think it takes a message board expert to make an undefeated team who won the first match-up by 42 a solid favorite in a hypothetical rematch. JC could have beaten either Boyle or Bell at the end of the season but it probably would have taken a better game than they played against Highlands.

I havent' got the stats in front of me but turnovers weren't the only thing that beat JC vs. Boyle.

Try the rushing statistic. Try 95 yards rushing on offense and a grand total of 102.

Try your defense gave up 400 yards to Boyle. Not bad for a team that only won because of "short fields."

No one ran against Boyle's defense all year, whether it was turnovers or not. Bell didn't crack 100 on the ground and they "did not" turn the ball over.

While JC got better on the year, so did other teams.

Hard to rush on anybody when you cant hang on to the ball and dont have possession of it too, aint it? Hard to get anything started even when you recover your own fumbles and make it 2 and 20 and the such all night long.

Will state that Boyle's defense is outstanding and will give credit where credit is due.

Spew out whatever you may, stat this, stat that, I'm really not interested as I could care less. That's right I'm stressing, I dont care. Save yourself some time and dont bother even looking it up. I still stand on my statement.

Virginia resident, and was not there either, right?

Turnovers have a way of eating into a team's time of possession. It is hard to run or pass the ball if you are busy coughing it up to the other team's offense. Turnovers also make your defensive stats misleading because they: 1) often give the opposing team great field position and 2) lead to your defensive players becoming fatigued by forcing them to spend too much time on the field.

I think that your analysis of the box score ignores the impact of turnovers in most football games.
This has to be the most ridiculous thread on this forum. Let's all crown Johnson Central second best team in 5A and move on. Who cares if they lost a few games by 40 points? They are still number 2!!

It was not started by a Central fan, keep that in mind.
Johnson Central had a good team but how in the world can someone state that someone is the 2nd best team in any class. Lots of teams could lay claim to that but it really doesn't matter because there's only one that counts #1. 2nd place is the first loser anyway.
no, JC wasn't the best team in the state but I know one thing: They're the most annoying team in the state.

But Highlands has the most annoying poster.

Never thought about that one, did you?

Well you know, I dont think that I even mentioned any names.

Gee, what one's conscience will make one say. I guess I should pay homage to one that can step up and make one's own self accountable. I look at those folks in a whole new light now.Confusedalute:

Johnson Central wasn't the 2nd best team in the mountains, maybe not in the top 5
redstorm Wrote:Johnson Central wasn't the 2nd best team in the mountains, maybe not in the top 5

You are wrong here. At the end of the season only Bell was better. If you compare diffulty of schedule and the fact that JC was in 5A, none of the others were close.

Naw, it's a one way deal here pal.

So do you deny that Matheney said that after the Boyle game?

Whether he went through with it or not, it certainly was pretty poor to even threaten it.

As to whether they were 2nd best, no way. Christian County, Bowling Green, and probably John Hardin would have handled JC as well IMO.

I would probably be more inclined to talk about it, if you ever learned what the coaches name actually is. That speaks volumes about a lot here.

As for the rest, for you being a Virginia resident, I'm not so sure that your knowledgeable first hand enough to even be able to form an opinion.
My guess is yes, I do, there big guy!

Got that a** cracked by Boyle, Matney cried, publicly mind you, that they were poor sports and that he wanted to buy out the contract. JC was concerned about the perception after beating inferior teams by 60 and refused! Simple, Sparky! Deny it all you want, but it doesn't change the truth. Some JC fans I know were even talking to me about what a crybaby he was.

And, my other guess is that you are the clueless one.

You just confirmed you dont know the first thing about anything more than what you may have read in a newspaper. Lets just call a spade a spade. Your one of those big feelin, big talkers on here that are self annointed experts on everything. Got news for you junior, you aint on this one.

Whatever you gotta tell yourself to feel good about yourself hot rod! lol! I know how it went down; A certain someone was on speakerphone when I was in the presence of a friend of mine talking to that someone after the BC game! You seem to be one of those "big feelin, big talkers" that wants every one to take what you have to say as the gospel. Got news for YOU, Sparky...ain't buying it!

I agree with Hatz even if he's not knowledgeable enough to even be able to form an opinion.
