5 Titles in 10 yrs is real good but remember who the coach was during that time? Chuck Smith he is no longer there!

We should take a Bell/Boyle rivalry with much more respect than what most on here do. These two programs are the real deal. If anyone on here doesn't think this a classic match up is lost in space. This is two years now that we have faced each other in the semis. I have a feeling there's a few more showdowns still to come. Enjoy and value it. This could possibly be one of the best rivalries in the years to come.

I talked to coach Hilton this am and he said that the team will be leaving around 2pm, then stopping in London to eat.....

I saw in a Boyle Co thread earlier in the year that Boyle was dropping down to 3A in 2011. Is that true or not?

I am with you 100% this is going to be a great game. I pick Bell because that is my team, Boyle fans pick there team. The truth is I don't know who is going to win. Like i said this is going to be a great game.

Or better yet where has anyone made an excuse that if we had not thrown 5 int. we would have won last year? I do believe it was said that Boyle would not throw that many this year. Over half this thread is Bell County excuses over how they lost to Alcola and why they only have 2 state titles because of Highlands in the way.
I agree with you I amnot making any excuses about the loss to Alcoa or anything that has happened at all this is the 09 season and not the 08. This game is not a rematch because it is a new season. Going to great game good luck to both teams.

BellCoBobcats09 Wrote:What stinks about the 04 game is Bell Co should had been State Champs that year. Thats the year Bell Co was up on Highlands with about 2 min to go in the game and Highlands scored the last TD to take the lead. The person who scored the last TD was the INELIGIBLE player Highlands had that year. Basically cheated that year to win State and they did. All they had to do was forfeit all there wins that season..
Man, I remember when that happened. The KSHAA dropped the ball on that one.
This is a new year. Go Cats!

I've never looked at it as "stood in our way." I've looked at it as "they beat us." Never a guarantee that "we would have won if they hadn't been there." Even in my post about wishing to have played Bell in '04 rather than Highlands, my emphasis was that with that matchup that year, I don't know how that game would have played out. I did however know how tough Highlands had played us in the regular season and felt their defense was a perfect stopper of our offense. I wasn't sure about Bell because they had not played.

BellCoBobcats09 Wrote:Just remember Boyle Co was NOTHING until the 99 season when they won there 1st State Title in 2A. Thats the year they demolished Middlesboro at Rebel Stadium.
You are sorely misinformed on that one. Was Bell County nothing until 1991?
Boyle has had a program with peaks and valleys in its existence.
Boyle started with some good teams in the mid 60's (first year was '63 football season). Then there were some bad teams but success in the early years of John Buchanan's reign around 1970. 9-1-1 teams and another winner or two.
Ed Rall took the Rebels a little farther, never having a losing season from '74 until '84. Along the way the Rebs won 2 District titles, had a couple of great seasons (9-2, 10-2, 9-1, 8-2) and won the old CKC a couple of times. Defeated teams like Harrodsburg (Parks, Yeast, Meaux, Parks, et al), Washington County (Larry and Jeff Smith), Danville (Chris Jones), Henry Clay among others.
Program fell to the bottom from '83 to '91 with only one winning season.
Smith arrived in '92 and began building it. The breathrough playoff wise was in '96 when the Rebels upset Danville (Remember them in the 90's?) in the Regional and made it to the semi-finals, only to lose a tough game (12-7 ?) at Breathitt County during their 42 game streak. The next year the Rebs went 10-0 and were upset by Bourbon (i.e. Hilton) in the 2nd round (Whom they had trounced in the regular season). Those were the springboard years to the run of '99 to '04.
Boyle was "Nothing" before that run? Hardly. They just had not made the breathrough into the State prominence yet.

I don't know that I put as much stock in who "the coach is" as some seem to on here. (You know, "Well, that was when Dudley wasn't here) The program is the program, regardless of who coaches.

I see what you're saying Hatz and I have to agree in most part. I will say this though, Bell wasn't Bell without Dudley. I can't explain it but the people around the program would vouch for this. And, by no means am I knocking anyone else. Not at all. I just think certain teams match with a certain coach.

I agree. Bell Co wasnt much unitl they built the new High School in the mid 80's at Log Mountain. They combined Lone Jack High School with Bell Co and they become dominant after the consolidation.

Your right. When Dudley left to go to Bourbon Co Bell Co was a total different ball club. Dudley took a 0-10 Bourbon team and turned around the next year and won a State Title with them. Hilton is a GREAT coach and is who made Bell Co Football into what it is today.
