Highlands 42 Johnson Central 21
#1
Dillion had 141 yards and 3 TDs in the game for JC. Highlands took a quick 14-0 lead and JC matched that with a 14-0 run of their own to tie it up. Highlands scores just before the half to take a 21-14 lead. The 3rd quarter was the deciding one in this game. Costly mistakes and turnovers deep in their own territory led to 3 Highlands touchdowns. The scoring drives by Highlands were of 26, 24 and 22 yards. Nothing to hang their heads about. Good season Eagles and best of luck to Highlands the rest of the way.

Nice win Bluebirds:Wave::theman:

Good Job Bluebirds! What a spanking.

Nice game JC you made EKY proud the way you hang in there. With Highlands being as improved as they have been this year it shows JC is getting much better as well. Keep playing that schedule and you guys just might get there real soon.

Highlands ended up with 357 yards of total offense and JC had 318 total yards of offense. I thought it was a nice showing against the #9 team in the nation. Obviously the 3rd quarter much like last season killed them. I'm proud of this team with the turn-around they had after starting 0-4 on the year.

Congratulations Bluebirds.

Great teams force good teams to suffer for their mistakes.
#7
Great season cental you have have made johnson county very proud
#8
congrats highlands...jc you gave a good showing, proud of your effort.

Highlands led this one 42-14 late in the game then put the subs in and JC added the final td to give you the 42-21 final.

3 down, 2 to go Birds. Keep working hard men.

Be honest, it's a complex of some sort, aint it?

I've never seen an offense quite like JC. They seemed unstoppable in the 1st half. They have alot of heart. They also have some bad apples. There were a couple nasty personal fouls that weren't called. Anyway, hats off to Brian Weinrich and the Highlands D. They are amazing. The 1st half should have ended with only 7 pts on the board apart from a legit pass interference on a 4th and 13 which gave JC the ball 1st and goal. Stupid mistake. It gave JC confidence, but as soon as Highlands got the ball they scored again. After that it was just a matter of time before the JC squad gassed out and Highlands got rollin'. JC did nothing in the 2nd half. Their only score was a late pass on Highlands 2nd team defense. Highlands just let JC continue to run the ball and chew up the clock. It seemed as if JC had already conceded defeat down 42-14 with a whole quarter to go they continue to run it up the gut and chew up the clock. What's up with that? Why even play the 4th quarter if you're not even going to try to get back in it. They didn't try a pass until 3minutes were left on the clock. I'm sorry but that's ridiculous. Highlands just let them continue to chew up the clock and shoot themselves in the foot. Overall, JC had no answer for the Bluebird offense. They were worn out from playing both sides of the ball the entire night and Highlands just kept pounding them. Highlands definitely wouldn't have won without AC tonight. He took over the game offensively. Drennan is a stud and Towles is absolutely amazing. He has such poise. Like he's been there before. Absolutely incredible. Johnson Central has one of the most unstoppable offenses in the state. Unfortunately, they have no pass and no depth. That won't win state. simple as that. They gave Highlands their toughest test of the year and have nothing to hang their heads about. Nothing but respect from this Bluebird fan. I'm actually concerned about facing this team again next year. They're pretty amazing. Even in the stands you couldn't follow the ball carrier. I can't imagine how the Bluebird D felt. Roller put his signature on a couple peeps tonight. Hard fought, hard hitting game. Wish some of the JC players would have played clean and not punched one of our players. Oh well, it was an emotional game. Birds 42 and the win.

Well, I just wasn't expecting to hear you say any kind words at all. Actually the entire backfield is back again next year, minus Dillon.

Good luck on down the road. Like you'll really need it....lol

Sounds like Highlands 3 2nd half scores came off of turnovers leaving them a short field. Although that is what good teams do when other teams makes mistakes it doesn't seem to me that would necessarily make this a game that was dominated by one side. Sounds like to me JC held their own tonight.

We said the same thing at the game tonight, JC conceded the game in the fourth quarter and just wanted to keep the ball out of Highlands hands to prevent wider margin of victory. Thanks for running out the clock for us.

Are the excuses starting? The turnovers were in large part due to Highlands special teams playing great and forcing JC to start deep in their own end. Highlands forced some 2nd and 3rd long plays and JC's Off is not designed for that. And if you want to start talking about ifs and butts; If Highlands does not have a pentalty when 3rd and 2 in the first half, they probably get the first down and go in to score. And if the do not have a bone head defensive pass interference play, JC never scores the second TD and the score could easily be 21-7 or28-7 at the half. JC played a good game but Highlands is just the better and more balanced team. Highlands showed they had more depth and better half time adjustments. JC Has excellent running game but sooner or later will realize they need to establish a passing attack to advance farther in the playoffs.

JC's running game was impressive. But in order to be an elite team you just can't be so one dimensional. In the 4th quarter down a bunch all they were doing was running. Like an earlier poster said it didn't seem they were really playing to win.

That's their game, (and I mean no offense by that.) Not sure what the passing stats were for JC tonight, but it's painfully obvious that they can't rely on the passing game to keep the defense honest against the run. Highlands made some personnel moves at the half which made the second half much less hospitable for the Eagles. That pass interference near the end of the first half was just stupid. The ball was uncatchable and the HHS defender just mowed the receiver down. Even then I couldn't make myself worry. It seemed that the only way Highlands was going to lose was to shoot themselves in the foot, and I couldn't see that kind of collapse. I saw some pushing and shoving, but nothing that I'd call out of the ordinary. I think these two teams are starting to see the writing on the wall that this is going to be a playoff matchup down the road for a few seasons. Looking forward to making the trip to JC next year. (August can never get here soon enough for me once the second week of December is here.)

Dillon will be missed, I thought he was their best player.

central stayed in it for a while but i knew this would be the outcome

This by far with the exception of St. X (OH) was the best team Highlands has faced all year.

As long as I've been a fan of Central football, to remember all the times we were playing out the last games of 2-8 seasons, to think of watching Paintsville dominate us in the Apple Bowl, of getting annihilated year in and year out in our district games...if you had told me that one day I would be watching kids in Johnson Central football uniforms playing in their fourth straight state quarterfinal playoff game and going toe to toe with the #8 ranked team in the nation and holding their own (for a while, anyhow)...I would've called you a lot of things, crazy being one of them.

This program has come a long way since 2003. These kids have come a long way since 0-4 earlier this season. (And of our losses, Boyle, Bell, Sheldon Clark, and Highlands are all still alive in the final four of their respective classes.) They have made us all proud with what they've done, and I salute the Golden Eagles on an excellent season.

Congrats to the Bluebirds for being the fast, well-coached, deep team we all expected you to be. We make a couple of errors (not intercepting the pass thrown into double coverage which set up the HHS score before the half, then coming out after the half trying to tie and losing the fumble) and were made to pay for them dearly. You can't give a team like that a 25 yard field three times in a quarter and expect to get away with it. Emotions are a huge part of football games played between 14-18 year old boys. If you've got the momentum, you maybe can overcome the fatigue of playing both ways, but once you get your head down and your spirit slips a little bit, it catches up with you real fast. No shame tonight on our end. None of us in Eagle Nation have any doubt HHS will put the 2009 state title up on the stadium signs this year.

...but we're thinking the 2010 state title sign would look awfully nice over the entrance to Eagle Field. Long drive home for the boys tonight, and hopefully they'll start preparing for next year tomorrow. We've seen how far we have to go to get where we want to be, and while it's not as far as it used to be, it's going to take work, and that work has to be done long before August.

Your kids should hold their heads up high, they played a good game and just got beat by a better team. You are right about the work has to start long before August! Hope to see you guys at your place next year, but HHS will have their sites set on that 2010 state title sign for their place. HHS will return alot of experienced players.

So will we. We're working hard on what it takes to beat HHS, but let's face it, so is the rest of the state (minus maybe St. X and Trinity).

Congrads to the Bluebirds on the win. You young men played a good hard fought game.

JC you did Johnson County proud tonight and we're already looking forward to next season when we match up with the Birds again. I'ts gonna happen!!!
As far as the nasty personal fouls..that went both ways, as well as a face mask that wasn't called, but oh well, you're right...emotions run high in games like these.
Just one more thing I would like to say here....To the Highland fans that was sitting on the visitors side, telling our fans they need to sit there a..... down.
I'm pretty sure you would be able to see much better if you took a seat in the home section, there was still plenty of seating available on the home side when you decided to sit where you did. The only thing you would of had to look over then was some of the noses stuck in the air.....

Good Luck to the Blue Birds the rest of the way...we'll see you next year.

Hold on there Tiger. If you'll take just a second to do a little research, you'll see that HOP is not a JC fan. I believe he is a Knox Central or McCreary fan. Nobody from JC is making excuses for anything.

And please dont start "iffin" on things. "If's" happen about 1,000 times on about 1,000 different things in every game. If Central hadn't fumbled in the third quarter, if Central hadn't thrown that interception in the 3rd quarter. It goes on and on and on for every team in every game. "Ifs" are what make up every game that's played. Understand where I'm coming from? Just kinda has the slight appearance that your the one starting to make excuses for various things.

Anyways, as it has been said multiple times by all JC fans, "Great Game Highlands, and best of luck the next two weeks."

I have no idea what cheap stuff your referring to , but in the eyes of EF442 it went both ways. I really dont care if Highlands was a guilty party or not. It doesn't matter, the game is over and we took our licks. It's not anything that is worth wasting a second over argueing about now.

I agree Kimbo. It was what it was last night.....a very tough game despite the score. And I know every Highlands fan that was at that game knows this.
