Since football season is over for 2009 I thought I would start another thread to talk about next season leading up to the 2010 season.
What must Russell do to Make it back to the state final in the 2010 season? thoughts

I will start I think they need to get in the weight room right away and get stronger that was a key factor this year.

I would also say they need to condition year round so they will be in shape for the 3rd and 4th quarter. I know it will kill conditioning if Russell has to pull the starters a lot because of blowouts so thats why I think they need to keep up with that on their own. They could easily run the Russell cross country course a lot during the off season to get ready.

Coach McGlone is 11 wins away from reaching 300 wins in Kentucky go out there on a mission for another state title and get McGlone his 300 wins.:devilflam

i look for Russell to have a pretty good year. best of luck to you all on the upcoming season in 2010.

First they will have to fix the qb. shuffle problem, and have more weapons to their offense, Jones could not do it by himself this year, and be able to pass the football, that is why Sheldon Clark took it to the Devils with a wide open attack and they were the stronger team.

I think the biggest problem again will be line play esspecaly early in the season. I know that they will be bigger on the line next year but they will be young. They will probebly have to go with some sophs on the line. I like what I saw from the freshman team, some of these kids will have a chance to play alot. But as a previous poster stated, these kids need to be in the weight room and on the track next week getting ready for next year. You get better individually during the off season, you get better as a team during the season. I don't know if its not stressed enough how important the off season is, or if Russells players are lazy or just dont care. From what I've seen, Russell has some good talent coming up, good enough to make it past the 1st or 2nd round of the playoffs if they would dedicate themselves to getting bigger, stronger, and faster, especally stronger. Remember, all things being equal, the strongest man WILL WIN!

Judging from what I saw in the Raceland game (the only time I saw Russell), Russell needs to work on their conditioning. Raceland wore down Russell in the second half.

Russell has to get stronger. I never thought I'd see the day when Raceland physically outmuscled the Devils. If an average 1A school is stronger it's not a good thing. Or add to the playbook to make up for a weaker line??

He will stick to the same plays he always has until they execute them to perfection and if they don't they lose the game.

I think they should all drink orange kool-aid and give up that excersise in futility that they call Russell football.

Russell does need to to work on conditioning. Weights need to be mandatory three days a week although that won't happen. I know I wouldn't want to spend three or more days a week in their weight room. It needs to be burned to the ground.
Russell will be in rare form next year. McGlone and Company prepared for the following year more so than any I've seen. The result being more underclassmen seeing valuable playing time.
I also look for them to mix it up next year on offence. I know how that sounds but with Jones gone and the returning players abilities they are perfect for a shotgun offence.

Who looks to be on the starting O-Line?

Just guessing, Korzep, Fyffe, Massie, Kibby, would like to see Davidson at tight end. Freshmen had a couple of big players but not that familiar with them.

I'm sick of hearing a bunch of excuses, we need results. Ive lifted enough weights to know you dont need a high tech weight room to get strong. All you need are weights, and kids with desire. I read on here some time ago, about how bad Ft. Thomas weight room is, so small that they have to lift in shifts, and it sure hasent stoped them from getting bigger and stronger. These kids get on here and hear this stuff and it gets in their heads and they start thinking, we do have a crappy weight room, can't get a lot of results there. If there's a plan put in motion for a new weight room, great, but until Russell has one lets focus on what we do have, not what we don't have. So, lets encourage these kids to get out and commit to themselves to get stronger. Oh, and it dosen't take a weight room to work on cardiovascular, there's a nice big track and all kinds of bleachers to run on right there on campus.

Did you get a pm from me? If not I have a question to ask you. I think the norhterners argument about Cincy kids not playing in Ky. is BS.

I think Ft Thomas' program is mandatory. A lot of schools have weights 7th period. A nornal 16 year old is not going to run bleachers or lift if they don't have to. It takes pressure from coaches, parents, and peers. Once they see results then they will take the initiative themselves.
The kids can read this all they want, although I advise them to stay off, they already know how crappy the field house is because they can see, smell, and are intelligent for the most part.
My point is it doesn't matter if you lift in an outhouse, fieldhouse, or have a private trainer the program needs to be mandatory.

I agree with mightydog it doesn't take a large weight room to get stronger it takes dedication of lifting about everyday in the off season and really year round. If the players don't have a gym pass they should get one we have 3 gyms right close Fitness world, ymca, and the one that just opened either last year or this year. They can't just count on the Russell weight room to get the job done since they are not in school everyday.

Sounds like an inexperienced line.

If these two freshman are any good at all they will be on the line for Russell either next year or coming years.

I'll have to be honest about some things that have posted on here 1) Is lifting weights a must? The answer is an astounding YES! It should be mandatory and if not it is up to the upcoming SR's to hit the weightroom hard and get everybody else to also show up and lift. 2)It doesn't take a genius to know that conditioning also plays a BIG part also, again it should be to the up-and-coming SR's to get everybody out to do this also. 3) The weightroom should be open all year long anyday of the week EXCEPT SUNDAY for anybody to lift. As for the comment of lifting at other GYM's I believe that is the wrong idea and should not be considered for any ballplayer because to become a strong unit you need to be lifting as a group with your teammates and not individually on your own.

Just because they lift on their own doesn't stop them from lifting with the team as well.:argue:

It would be nice to have enough good linemen for offence and defence
