I believe it will come down to Ashland and Fairview.

When is the lethal injection going to occur for "Dead School Walking?"

Poster asked what the Rams from Raceland have and could they make some noise? I think that the district is up in the air in the 63rd. Coach Floyd has a nice player in Barker and has Darius Jackson running his point. Jeremy Barr and Tyler Farley will be out when they put the pads away and they will be very competitive. They have to replace their leading scorer from last season, Tyler Boyles. The Rams will have to find those points from somewhere.

The Bath County transfers that I know of I would not call "game changers" or even "significant". I know of one from the Christian school in Morehead and the other is the son of the former Fleming County coach. Maybe an upgrade from what they had, but not enough to make them a player in the 16th Region race unless there are more.

It may not be "touchy, feely" but it is the real world. To expect what is not likely to occur is to put added and unneeded pressure on the participants.
You're quite the motivator for today's youth in the 16th region. I hope that whoever comes out of the regional tournament chooses someone else to give the pre-game pep talk prior to the appearance at Rupp Arena.
I think it will probably be Barnhill, Buck, Bair, and the boys (how's that for alliteration?), but whoever it is, I sincerely hope that they walk out on that floor, knowing in their hearts that they will play their best, and that they have a real chance to win.
If you give the pregame speech, I fear that most of the athletes will simply cut their wrists, rather than face the slaughter that you would have them believe they are walking into. Depending on the draw, the 16th regional champ may need to pull off an upset (or they may be favored) - but either way, that is why they play the games. Rather than have our kids go into the game expecting to be victimized, I'd prefer that they go in knowing that they can beat any team in the tournament, if they play well and get a few breaks.
Fairview will certainly have the talent to win a couple of games, and then, who knows? East is (in my opinion) capable of playing with most teams in the state. The last couple of years, Elliott County was certainly a fun team to watch, and they put a scare in their opponents in the state tournament.
In 07, they beat Shelby Valley, and played Warren Central tough.
In 08, they lost to the eventual state champs (Mason County) by 4 points in the first round - the smallest margin of victory for Mason in the entire tournament.
In 09, they lost to Holmes in the semifinals, by 10 points.
Elliott truly believed that they were the equal (or better) to every team they played. A defeatist attitude (even if you cloak it in the terms of "being a realist") robs kids (and adults as well) of the drive to succeed that are what athletic competition is all about.

I think Floyd is a pretty solid coach.
I know that in their summer league, Jackson could get up and down the court in a hurry. He struggled at times with ball control, but he creates a lot of problems for teams that can't stop him on the drive. They got several open shots from his passing, when the defenses rotated to help out on his drives. I'm not to sure about his shooting from the perimeter (he didn't take many outside shots), but the key (as you stated) will be finding the points that Boyles provided last season.

So are you saying that the KHSAA has dropped their investigation on Rose Hill or that the Moe, Larry and Curly and soon to be Elvis has left the building?
Raceland will not be in the mix. Toss up between East, Fairview, Menifee, and Greenup may surprise some people this year.
It is a shame, isnt it? I would private message you and continue this conversation but I sense your cowardness would never respond.
Baker, Floyd, Cooksey, Fraley are pretty good at what they do, should be a fun, entertaining year...atleast on here.

The unfortunate loss of Terrance Smith of Lewis County should make the 63rd pretty wide open.

And it won't happen now.

Secondly, hard to say the new Cooksey is good at what he's getting ready to do, he's never done it before. Heck throw Rick Mays in there too. Hard to take your post as anything intelligent when you don't even know who coaches whom and who has retired.

Did Greenup or Raceland make the regional tournament last year?

Greenup 63rd Champs
Russell runner-up.
Russell fell to Elliott Co. 1st round in the 16th tourney.

Will Bob Kouns be back to work his magic again this coming season?

I hope he is coming back. He's getting long in the tooth, and he can frustrate the heck out of you with some of his cals (or non-calls), but overall, he's a pretty good official.
All refs have good nights and bad nights. That's a given. One thing about Kouns - he honestly doesn't care (or hear) what is being said from the stands. No one can ever accuse him of having rabbit ears while he's on the floor.

You are correct, Squid. Kouns will never be accused of having rabbit ears.

I think the region is really going to miss the likes of Steve Martin and Marla Gearhart. I've also heard that Bobby Hall is hanging up the whistle. I don't know if that's true, but I've heard it.
The region really needs some young officials to get started. Any young officials will take a few years of calling games before they get comfortable, but we really need to bring some young talent along.
Good officiating is hard to come by, and our region isn't getting any younger in that respect. I have to say, though, that after seeing some of the officiating in other areas of the state, our stripes (on the whole) are better than many (if not most).

Lewis Co was 63rd Champ last year...Greenup was the #1 seed but got knocked off by #4 Russell in the first round of the tournament...

I didn't know about Martin and Gearhart. Both will be missed. Hall is a good official as are many of the others. Of course, in this day and age, we can't expect to see another Foster "Sid" Meade or George Conley.
For any former player who wants to remain close to the game, officiating would be a way to do so. It is also a good way to burn excess calories.

I can't speak for you, Truth, but I know that burning calories should definitely be a higher priority for a lot of us.
I'm not certain about Martin and Gearhart, but I have heard that they are going to be calling college only. Maybe one of the members of NEKBOA could give us an update on who will be returning.
I'd love to see each school in the region try to get at least one former player each year to put the whistle on. I know that many people would try it, and then decide it wasn't for them, but after about a five or six year run, we would have a lot more young talent calling games.

Of course, everyone would like to have a 6'5 problem like that to have to work around. Good luck to the 'younger' Cooksey!
You have to like Ashland's outlook for the next 3 years and beyond. With the addition of Corey Gregg to shore up the inside game things have to be chipper on Blazer Blvd. All of a sudden things are looking a lot more competitive in the 16th! Good competition can't do a thing but help everybody.
Yeah I remember when Lewis Co. had a 6'6 problem last year and we seen how that turned out for them. Fairview will be fine.

Terrible car accident, broken back and neck, underwent surgery and is probable for a late in the season comeback.

I think you're probably right, Dog, but I also think Ashland is capable of beating either one of them.
We'll definitely know more as the regular season unfolds.

Unless something drastic happens, those suiting up this year are alot closer to earth.

If you're going to add Greenup to this list then I would add Russell as well because Russell defeated Greenup to go to Region last year.
