Prestonsburg 21 Shelby Valley 12
#31
from the score i would say that this was a good game played by both teams. good job to both teams.
#32
congrats to the blackcats, the undefeated season continues, (has there ever been an undefeated team , regular season , at P-burg ?).
#33
Great win for PBurg.

Shelby Valley is a very good, very underappreciated team. They played LC tough in the first half of their game.

Nice job of remaining undefeated against a very good opponent.

i think bj roberts ran for over 220 yards and hughs ran for 95 against a very good prestonsburg team. I thought both teams played well with a lot of heart, representing eky football to the highest. I would like to know the players than lined up offside for sv when they were in the red zone, they need a talking to. Tanner tackett and bj both had 10 tackles for the game also, so they play both ways for the wildcats. These two teams may very well meet again and best of luck for both teams. Go wildcats.

good job black cats

Shelby Valley has had a great saeson, they just can't win the big game, that comes with maturity, hang in there and you will get that key marquee win.
#39
impressive game, the backs for valley block for each other and that is the key. i believe valley rattled p-burg with their run and they just couldnt seem to pull it together
a meeting down the road for these 2 teams would be interresting, i would want to see the adjustment pburg will try to make
also valley NEEDS to put in a fast pace offense or a hurry up for when they are losing the clock control trying to recover a score in the 4th quarter was the worst i have seen

A lot closer than I thought. I'm surprised no one is on here bashing my posts from the prediction thread. Anyhow, I'll be the first to admit I was wrong about the game. I predicted the right winner of course, but I overlooked this Shelby Valley team. The Wildcats are good, really good. The Roberts kid is amazing. I had no doubt the Wildcats would run the ball well, but I didn't think it would be that effective. I was proved wrong. Shelby Valley may hang with Corbin in the playoffs. They are big, quick, and well-coached. I was very impressed.

Boy, Michael Burchett does it again. He is flat out amazing. That quarterback draw play seemed to work every time in the second half. Did the Blackcats even throw the ball in the second half? I know they didn't pass in the fourth quarter. Anyway, congratulations to Prestonsburg on the win as the undefeated season continues.
#41
I agree Burchett is an awesome QB but lets give a little credit to the OL. If it werent for the blocking the QB draw wouldnt work very well.. After watching a replay of the game it seems as though Griffith and Mckinney were the ones that made the play work considering some of the blocks they made..
#42
Another interesting aspect of this game concerning Griffith and McKinney. On defense, they are the leading tacklers on the team, and 2 of the leading tacklers in the state. However, neither one of them had very many tackles in this game. This was partly because SV prepared very well for them, and partly because they spent most of the night taking on lead blocks. Prestonsburg's defense is designed for the linebackers to make tons of tackles, and when your 2 leading tacklers are having to take on lead blockers, everyone else has to step up. Even though Prestonsburg gave up alot of yards on the ground, and their 2 leading tacklers were occupied most of the night, they still only gave up 2 scores. It was ugly, sure. But, it epitomizes their "bend but don't break" defensive scheme. And it also bodes well for the playoffs, where you can bet other teams will focus on making sure #36 and #51 are accounted for.

This just proves the point that the Blackcats play as well as a team as any Prestonsburg team in recent memory. This has been a very fun year to watch, irrespective of the winning streak. Let's hope they have 6 more wins in them this year!
#43
Great job SV. Thought this might be a run-a-way but I was proved wrong. I attended the class A bball state tour. last year at EKU and was very impressed by SV fans with the kind of support they give to their sports program's. Don't know who will play who, and the out come. Corbin was a lock for the 2A, now thre is a few more teams in my mind that maybe can make the trip out west.

I dont even need to read all the post, i listend to the first qtr and knew SV was history. When SV had 2 flags, offline, close to a TD, oh please, even the announcers knew it was going to be a long night. Keep your head up SV u gotta remember u were playing at the burg...LOL. Burg, Burg, what's the word!!! Same as Bird, Bird. Oh Well.

You must have been listening to a different game because from the game I was watching Sv keep the football almost the whole 1st qtr.. They scored and then Pburg scored going ahead.. There were alot of flags thrown but just not against SV. They were calls against Pburg also.. Yet there were also some plays where the flags should have been thrown against SV but weren't especially when there was a face mask.. But oh well.

Haven't got to post yet, been in Lexington all weekend.

Prestonsburg I thought come out flat and Valley just punched them right in the face from the get go. I was extremely impressed with Valley and their offensive line. They controlled the line the entire game and it was usually 3+ yards before a Blackcat defender even laid a hand on most of their backs, especially BJ Roberts. Hats off to the entire Valley team, program and fans. They where their to win, but come up just short.

Prestonsburg's defense made stops when they had to, but they missed a ton of tackles just as they did in the first half of the Breathitt game. Like someone said earlier, Griffith & McKinney had someone blocking them all night and that really killed Prestonsburg. Just comes to show how valuable some players are to this team. Offensively, Prestonsburg had to get it done on the ground. Their offensive coordinator had missed the entire week leading up to the game with an illness and that kept Prestonsburg from scripting any passing plays against Valley's defense. But the backs got it done and so did the line. As for Michael Burchett, their isn't really anything bad you can say about the boy. He's a true winner and one of the best players in the state.

Great job Blackcats!!! Best of luck to Valley on the rest of the season!

I'm sorry but your full of it and I'm sure Valley fans will even tell you the same. BTW, if you weren't even at the game, then how can you make that assumption? Prestonsburg had a touchdown called back because of a hold. But I recommend you to either start coming to games or stop making assumptions you have no idea about.

Pburg is a little better than Valley. SV is a good football team but not a contender.

Pburg will challenge Corbin for the region...Have to give Corbin the slight edge. Corbin at least 21 points better than SV, IMO Pburg is 14 points better ( and was td called back). Corbin and Valley will be a high score( like a 55-35 game) but Corbin has too much offense. SV has a couple of backs that will get theirs no matter who they play(playoffs). Corbin's D has been suspect at times, Pburg has beaten Breathitt, Sheldon Clark, Belfry and SV. (Belfry win was huge). Corbin lost to the only good team on their schedule GRC and Clark is good but by no means great. I think Pburg finds a way to win the region, IMO. Corbin is the favorite but IMO not that much of one to roll through it.

Riherds.com credited BJ with 21 carries for 222 yards and Hughs with 14 carries and 95 yds against a very good Prestonsburg team. For the year they have BJ with 1334 yds and Hughs 1243 for a total of 2576. Not bad for a 6 and 3 team from EK. How about them thar Wildcats!!!

You say Corbin is the favorite and will roll through it but then go on to say their D is suspect at times and have not beaten a good team.

No disrespect at all, but being a player on the field, this was probally one of the best called ball games we have had all year. Yes their was a few missed calls etc. but it was called both ways and what game have u ever seen called perfect. Yes we did get 2 calls back to back on our first drive but they was good calls. I watched film today and our left side of the line was over the ball on both plays, and we still managed to score. But im not going to complain about the officials at all and this was also prob the cleanest p-burg team i have ever played against in my life. A bunch of good guys and great athletes on this team and we just got beat, nothing else really to say. But i would deff. like to see this team again in about 4 weeks

One of the most classy posts I've ever read!! I admire you for your honesty and respect for other players and teams. I've saw you play before and with your talent, intelligence, and knowledge of the game, the sky is the limit for you!! I wish you the best of luck with anything you do.

Yeah, on that play after the two offsides penalties against SV, when you ran to the left, reversed field, and gained around 30 yards, I wanted to come out of the stands and tackle you myself. You had to break at least 6 tackles. You took it to the 1 yard line and punched it in on the next play. One of the best runs I have seen this year no doubt. You better be glad I didn't come down there and clothes-line you though.

Congrats to the Blackcats on a great game and a great season. I think two of the better players in the mountains will face off this friday when PCC's Aron McGuire and Prestonsburg's Burchett square off. The Key to the game will be if Prestonsburg can block PCC's Channing Smith who is probably the best lineman in the mountains bar none

Can you not read? That is not what I said.
I said Corbin would be the slight favorite but due to their D being suspect at times, Pburg has a shot to win the region. Corbin is the favorite but not that much to roll through it....

Great post. Thanks for the compliments, our coach always pushes us to be classy. Do everything you all can to beat Corbin because you all definitely can, I would love to play you all again in a few weeks.
