Walt Jocketty said thereâs a chance the Reds could name a pitching coach before the postseason ends.
âTo be honest, Iâd like to have it done before that,â he said. âBut we havenât finalized the list yet.â
The Reds may wait until the St. Louis Cardinals are eliminated from the playoffs.
Dave Duncan, the St. Louis pitching coach, is involved in the postseason. Duncan has expressed his unhappiness with his situation with the Cardinals. He and Jocketty worked together during Jockettyâs time in St. Louis.
The hiring process will pick up when the Redsâ front office meets in Goodyear, Ariz. next week.
âWeâve talked to a few people,â Jocketty said. âIâll meet with Dusty (Baker) and the coaches next week.â
Ted Power, the pitching coach for Triple-A Louisville, has expressed his interest in the job. Special assistant Mario Soto has not.
âI havenât talked to Mario,â Jocketty said. âIâll see him in Arizona.â
Jocketty said the list of candidates will be in the four-to-five range.
