I would say just Ramey, Tanner, and Trey will be the only ones who see alot of playing time off the bench......Big D wont see much at all hes just not quick enough..Berger will get in before he will.

Everyone knows it comes down to S. Valley. Just get rid of your opinions and state the facts.

More Cowbell Wrote:Agreed, a less-than-100% Elisha Justice makes Shelby Valley vulnerable. Just like last year, if he misses games for any reason, Valley will likely suffer some losses.
I agree with you here. If you play like Elisha does, you run a high risk of picking up those injuries as well. It's easy to twist an ankle or a knee at the very least when you are going so hard all game.

Valley can go ahead and make their reservations for the state tourney! Done deal! This region is very weak and they will not have any problems except having to play some of the teams in the 15th that won't help them improve any. Would be nice if they could play all their games outside the 15th to help them get ready for the tourney.

I agree, do to a weak 15th region Valley can go ahead and make the reservations to state but thats why they play the games and SV has to prevate any injuries also.Shelby Valley should have no problem though getting to Rupp in 2010.

mister... basketball Wrote:well IMO zach ramey is not what people think. where has he played other than the ymca? i mean yea hes good but to say hes going to be a huge factor at valley this year, i dont think so.
i also have to say that if valley plays a game like they did when betsy layne came to valley last year then it just maybe a loss this season.
Have you even watched Zach much? Zach has played a lot at the Y and that got him an invitation to play with the Pikeville College Players at the Pikeville College gym. Zach played for Pikeville his freshman year at the JV level, sat Varsity and saw alot of minutes at the varsity level. The only thing we can do is watch, Booher has enough confidence to bring him in, why shouldn't we? He's been playing all summer with them even in some tourneys. Thursday is the official day of practice.

Shelby Valley, does not win. Due to internal conflict and turmoil.

Shelby Valley will rip any team in the 15th region to shreads!!

PC_You_Know Wrote:Due to who?
Just internal conflicts, turmoil, jealosy and possibly an injury (hopefully not).
No names needed. Just my opinion.
Not at all implying any player is jealous, etc...Just think it will unfold that way.
Valley will have a strong starting five. But, with their pressing style (2-2-1), they will need possibly 2-3 efficient subs. Foul Trouble and Injuries could really hurt the Wildcats.

I don't know why you would say that, the starting four have been on the team since 8th grade or earlier, I don't know how long Cody Varney has played as a starter, but with the ones that left, I wouldn't think it was most or any of the time, but he will this year. Then there is a few off the bench, and it's not deep, it's going be to determined by those who earn those spots and can produce. Inside turmoil and jealousy, I don't think so. It's going to come down to, can you play SV ball. Case closed.

It should be interesting. Lawrence will be fun to watch this year. They are really athletic and they are coached really well. May start a bit slow because of football but they are really talented this year.
10-18-2009, 01:37 PM
I think pikeville just needs to get a new coach if they ever want to win.

I wouldnt overlook the Lawrence Co. Dawgs this year.. there bringing back a very good team and I can account firsthand that Baldwin, Marcum and Adkins have all improved a good bit over the off season.
Plus they have the addition of Larry West now, who i havent seen in action yet, but heard that he is really good.

Even the best can get beat. Scott County was beaten last year largely due to injuries.
I actually think SV will be better this year than last. They will not be as deep on the bench but Tyler Newsome and Cody Varney will more than adequately replace the starters that were lost.
Justice, Hatfield, and Taylor Newsome are among the best returning players in a starting lineup that any team could hope for.
The biggest loss will be the pressure that Bryant provided. The emergence of Tyler Newsome will make SV a bigger offensive threat. He has spent long hours in the gym and he will be the biggest suprise to the opponents SV will face.

No questions.. Valley, with maybe a pack of runner-ups. Dont see any team touching them.

I know I will get alot of heat on this, but here goes! SV has been a very fundamental team and has played well togather, but is not very atheltic. This is why they got to Rupp and struggle. The 57th is glong to be loaded this year and has teams with pure athletes on them and good size. These teams have watched SV play and to be honest are not impressed anymore and tired of the hype. I look for a 57th Distict team to knock off SV this year, just not sure which one it will be. More speed and size there. I know this will get alot of comments, but I bet a few are good.

It's going to take a lot more than "pure athletes and good size" to beat Shelby Valley! SV is fundamentaly sound and they have a group of boys that have played together for years.
-Justice is as fast and strong as they come and there is not a guard in the 15th Region that can contain him.
-Taylor Newsome might not be the biggest but he knows how to use his body and draw fouls from bigger defenders.
-Ashley Hatfield has the ability to play inside or outside, he is probably the hardest to guard on the team because of his dual ability.
-Tyler Newsome is not just a spot shooter anymore, he can take it to the rack with authority and finish or get fouled.
-Varney plays as hard as anyone out there, he has a knack for being where the ball is.
The hype is not hype, they are a very good team and I don't believe any team in the 15th will beat them. They may have an off night and play some games close, but IMO no-one in the 15th has the horses to beat SV.
SV is definitely top 8 in the state and no other team in the 15th is even close to them talent or ability wise.
I respect your opinon but totally disagree!

They lost to a team that shot their arms off shooting the 3 ball, Elliott was probably the most nonathletic team at Rupp this past year.

Lawrence County returns a regional championship runner up team and lost only one starter. With the addition of Larry West, Lc is a much better team this year and word on the street is that Larry West is good enough to shut justice down. So I'll go ahead and say LC wins the region this year.

My point excatly, it would have only got worse. Who won the State Title and do you think all of SV players could line up with them? SV is a very good team playing in the weakest region in the state. The same holds true in the 57 TH. They have several teams that have the athleict ability to line up and play with SV. They have played these guys for four years and know all the weakness and are not afraid of them. I admire the way SV fans support their team, but this is the year realtiy will set in on Shelby Creek.

SV will be a good team, but with every player you mentioned and their strenght, there is player in the 57th that could line up and have skill eqaul to shut them down on any given night, it just takes one night for the whole year to come to an end. I know this is not poular, but folks norht of prestonsburg feel this way.

Probably so, but...do all five of the players play on one team? Is there a team in the 15th that matches up with all of SV players?
