Does anyone have good solid information on Lone Oak? Most of the folks on this forum seem to be familiar with Boyle County, Lexington Catholic, Bell County, Lawrence County, etc... but Lone Oak is a bit of an unknown quantity in 4A; at least for me.
Anyone care to chime in? Are there any Lone Oak fans in our midst that could give us some scoop?

I would love to also hear something on them. From what can be found on KHSAA.org they appear to be a solid team but as for particulars I know nothing.

They dont Run the ball much. Mostly in Goalline situations. they are a passing team. They have a very good QB in Cameron Loope and 4 Big time WR. Cameron Loope has 1653 passing yards and 18 TD's. They have been able to score in the 50''s 4 times and in one game they had 63.

Found some video on them versus Reidland. Lone Oak won the game 63-20.

from what i know good offense--defense is a word they haven't heard of.

Look like they have some talent in the skill positions with some speed to go with it. I watched just over a quarter and from what I see they love the screen passes and that is where their yardage comes from.

Just looked Reidland up on KHSAA they are 3-4 and a 2A school. Their only wins have came against 1 school each from 1A, 2A and 3A and known of the three have won a game this year. So I don't think Reidland is a good team to use to get a good read on Lone Oak.

From that video Reidland was running the ball on Lone Oak rather easily. LO made some plays in the backfield, but the LO defense give up a 60-yard touchdown early in the video and from only about 10 minutes of the video I watched Reidland has numerous runs of 8-yards or more. Lone Oak looks really good on offense, but nothing great.

I agree, if they meet up with a team that can move the ball on the ground it could be a real shootout.

LO throws about 50%, or a little less, of the time. They have a qb who is a threat to pass or run. Their defense is great against the run and suspect against the pass. Their best win was against Lex Cath in OT but they had Lex Cath down by 22 at the start of the 4th quarter. Lex Cath then found their weakness as they utilized the pass and a trick play/onside kick to tie the game before LO won in OT.
They beat Graves County 17-7 in a rain soaked game. Graves is a solid, but not great 6A school who has one of, if not the best defense in WKY but is lathargic on offense. This game was a bit of a suprise. They beat Green County 52-20 but were up 45 at the half. Green has a great running attack and not much in the pass department which played right into LO's strength. LO is very good but I would take Lex Cath on a neutral field in a close game and certainly Bell and Boyle would be favored. LO is young and with only 2 more seasons remaining before they consolidate with Heath and Reidland (New McCracken Co. HS is comming) they will be a force the next two years more so than this year but they are around a #5 rank in my book.

If you can pass your fine but their very strong against the run, just ask Lex Cath or Green. A run oriented team is a perfect storm for the Purple Flash

Yes they will be but I would not be suprised if they try and pull a Mercer Co stunt and ask to play down for a year. The odds are that legendary LO coach Jack Haskins will be asked to be head coach and he is one of the best in the state. What he has done with LO is a miracle but then again he has done the same everywhere he has been

Well to get a kind of different picture, in the west part of kentucky Lone Oak and Mayfield would be ranked behind Fort Campbell, Mayfield and Lone oak would fight for the number 2 spot in the west.

I'm sure Murray would have a dog in that fight.

No hudddle Off. and they have a great off. of line! The QB is smart and really hasnt been put into any tough throws this year! They are a great team and have good coaching!

Unless they have changed they are a Tony Franklin System school. Now they might not throw it as much as they did in the past few years but that might be because they have a QB that can run more than in the past. This is the same school that 2 or 3 years ago had the QB throw for 80 or so TDs in a season.

Wasn't their QB Mr. Football a couple of years ago? I can't remember his name.

I just dont think that L.O has played anyone with a shutout kind of team.. Just makes a person wonder can they hang with the BIG DOGS?

Robinson I think was the kid's last name (Cory Robinson ?). I believe he went to Troy (where Tony Franklin used to be and they still run the same system

Some people forget Lone Oak was the state runner-up Robinson's Senior season. This is a very dangerous team in 4A because while the East teams are smacking each other in the face from Round 1, the Purple Flash should have a relatively simple run to Bowling Green where they are the clear favorite. I think it is pretty clear that Boyle and Bell are the cream of the crop, but a confident Lone Oak with their unique offense could create some issues in Week 15 if they make it that far.

Yes Robinson from LO was Mr. KY Football and is now a redshirt frosh at Troy. LO does run the spread some and I stress SOME not all the time. Since most of you boys are not from out west you may or may not be familiar with their coach Jack Haskins who most out west will tell you is one of the best of all time in the state. Some may recall his son Billy Jack Haskins, a former Mr. KY Football and UK QB. Anyway, Haskins had Robinson and they threw 90% of the time, today about 45-50%. He is very good at adaptive football and next year he might run 95% out of the bone, he just uses what he has talent wise. LO is benefitting from his coaching reputation and now players from PT, Heath, Reidland and occasionally Graves are turning up and this is greatly aiding their program. Not so much from PT kids going to LO but a combination of that and LO kids now staying at LO that use to go play at PT.
LO in my opinion, and I admit I know my football better than most, is dangerous but not a Boyle or Bell. Everyone else could be fair game and this is espically true of running teams, LO's run defense is flat out outstanding. LO has a ton of young talent, they are winning everything out west in the middle school and frosh games and I look for them to have their strongest seasons the next 2 years before they close the doors at Lone Oak forever

I will have to agree that Lone Oak is the cream of the crop in the west in 4A, Coach Haskins is a legend and tailors the Purple Flash to run an offense capable of the players abilities. They can score quickly, have a great run defense, and have had a great run in the last few years. When kids from other high schools in the area want to come play for Lone Oak, that says alot about your football program. Don't think they will win it all, but look for them to make alot of noise..all it takes is 1 bad game. Ashame they are closing their doors in 2 years and consolidating...but that seems to be happening around the state alot lately.

Lone Oak is for real my friends. They have several statement wins this season against several good teams. Bell County and Boyle County fans better not take them lightly. They may not have the greatest defense in the world, but if you take their offense lightly you will be in for a long game. In my opinion, the Purple Flash have the best offense in 4A.
Having said that, Bell County, Boyle County, Lexington Catholic, Allen County, and Lone Oak are all serious contenders for the 4A State Championship. It's going to be exciting to see how it all unfolds come playoff time.

They do it all out of the spread offense, except they don't throw it 95 percent of the time like they did two years ago, when they made it to the state finals.
Looper had a big game on the ground against LexCath, something like 180 yards rushing. And they have two cousins named Starks (one is a senior, the other one is a sophomore) that can run and catch the ball.
Lone Oak's coaching staff will tell you that this is the best offensive line they've had. Their run defense looks to be a little bit better than it was two years ago, but the secondary needs work.
I saw the Lone Oak-LexCath game. The biggest surprise was that Lone Oak had more speed at the skill positions than LexCath did.

cuppett777 Wrote:i dont think anybody from the west gives them any trouble making it to bowling greenI would disagree. Allen County thumped Lone Oak in the playoffs last year and they could have a rematch in the third round.
In the semifinals, they could see Marion County, Western, Valley or Bullitt East ... none of them are pushovers. The Bell County fans can tell you about Marion, and Western gave Bryan Station all they wanted.
