Cochran To lead Lady Eagles
#1
As of this afternoon Selena (Williams) Cochran former Lady Eagle standout will take over the helm of the Johnson Central Lady Eagles. Cochran who played under Coach Wireman helped lead the eagles to back to back regional titles in 2001-2002. Cochran has since then returned to help Mr. Wireman as assistant coach. I wish you all the luck in the world Coach, I know you will do great!

It's always good to see a former player step up to the helm and takeover. Good Luck.

I am stunned at the process or lack of that the school system went through for this position. The JC girls basketball program has always been at the top of the region and is one of the premier programs in eastern Kentucky. Why did they not throw the kitchen sink to get Darrin Rice, who has proven himself to be a quality coach? Is there some reason why he wouldn't want to come back? Just seems logical for someone who left the middle school to get experience and then it opens up and we don't go after him hard. Did they interview anyone besides her? I know that Bill Watson, Chris Pierce, and Tim Rice was in the mix and not even a call or interview? This frustrates me and from what I hear a great deal of JC supporters. Don't get me wrong I will still support the program but it seems that the proper procedure was not followed. How much coaching experience does she have? This is not some small school that only wins every now and then. They are and should be regional contenders every year. With that said I wish her luck.

It is not that I don't like Selena but I am not sure if the experience is there. However even though I thought there were more qualified coaches out there I will support her and congratulate her. Go Eagles!:Cheerlead

What coaching experience does chris pierce have and has he ever played the game before? I know that he never played in school for a fact. She has 10 times more experience the he has. Good call JCHS on hiring the:Thumbs: cochran girl

What level of head coaching experience does she have? Pierce has coached six or seven years boys and girls basketball.
Being a good coach doesn't require you playing the sport.

I didn't say I was a Rice supporter, I just support the obvious. I don't think all the steps were taken to hire a well qualified coach. She might do well and I will support her but there were a few that were more qualified or JUST as qualified. :HitWall:

What's obvious is that the only posts you've made (at least under this assumed name) have been on this subject only. Hmmm..........

She helped lead the Lady Eagles to back to back 57th District and 15th Region Championships in 2008 and 2009. That's pretty obvious, too. Doesn't that count as quality coaching experience?

With the success this program has had in the past nearly two decades, you can't think that it's going to be turned over to someone who the administration doesn't have confidence in. That would be ridiculous. She'll go through some hard times, but what new coach doesn't. What she and the players deserve are some positive reactions from us - not the negative comments that have been thrown around seemingly by people who don't know what they are talking about.

For your information I usually don't respond on these boards but I just think this was wrong and that is why I signed up. I thought we were talking about HEAD coaching experience. An assistant is a pretty easy job espicially when the HEAD coach usually don't ask for any advice anyway. I think Phillip done an outstanding job but many know it was his way and only his way. He really didn't need help. What part of the administration are we talking about because I really only know one part of it that was really in on the decision. It would be ridiculous and only time will tell if it was the right decision. I have always said that I will support her and the program but I disagreed with the way the process or lack of was conducted. And with your last comment, I am not the one who is really been negative in this and since you know so much how about telling me what the hiring process consisted of? I think they had a committee, so tell me how many times that committee met? Did the other candidates even get a call or interview? You had at least two candidates with head coaching experience and one with College experience. I think I know a little more than you think and I do know what I am talking about!

Really? You seem to be the primary one - if not the only one.

You may know more than I gave you credit for, but you don't know the whole situation or process or what was done. Sorry, but I think I've the inside track on this one. And, I'm leaving it at that.

I am not the only one however maybe the only one with a voice. Trust me there are more than you think, but what can one do about it now. I do know most of the process and that is what really irks me. I don't think we did what was best for our girls program and it didn't come down to who was the best qualified and best fit for the program. And as for you having an inside track, I am sure you do.

But as I have ALWAYS said I wish her luck and I will always support the Lady Eagles.

At least we agree on something. As for the rest, only time will tell. If we both support the program, then let's hope that it continues to be successful.

I would like to wish Cochran good luck, from what I hear, she will do great this year, even if it is a young team. Keep on working....

Selena will be fine and do a great job. I remember watching her from 7th grade on and to become the ball player she became took a lot of heart, and work ethic; all of which she had and still has. I am sure she will approach coaching the same way and she'll put everything she has into it. Besides, she was coached by; and then was an assistant to one of the best coach's out there in Coach Wireman.
