Highlands 12 - Cincy St. Xavier 7
#1
Great game!

This game easily could have been 35-0 and the St. X announcers said that themselves.

Highlands completely dominated this game.

Congrats Highlands i'll be the first to admit I was way off on this prediction so congrats on your win over a good St. X team. I love it any time a Ky team beats an Ohio team.
#3
That's a very impressive win for the Bluebirds.

Great win, and Kentucky High School Football needed this.:1::1:

I'm shocked by this. I thought Highlands had a snowballs chance in **** of even staying in the game. Congrats to the Bluebirds.

Just got back from the game and the voice is gone. What a great game and great atmosphere. Bado hurt his throwing arm on a late hit and was wearing a sling. Let's hope it is not serious or Highlands is in trouble at QB.

I said the exact same thing in the Ashland thread, and it applies here as well!

Wow! This score surprised me a little! Sounds like a great game! Congrats Highlands! Someone said it easily could have been 35-0...did highlands not play all too well and miss some scoring chances, or what happened?

There stuffed 3 or 4 times at the Bombers goal line tonight. And they fumbled on 2 of those times where the Bombers recovered the ball. Highlands kept them in the game tonight although alot of credit needs to be given to Bombers defense for keeping the score what it was. Highlands completely dominated this game from the first snap to last.

The only bad thing about this is that Highlands starting QB Will Bardo went down with an injurying in the 4th Quarter.

Thanks! Hopefully Bardo's injury isn't too serious.

The Birds may have just won their "state" early but the question is "At what cost?" If Bardo is hurt, so are the Birds. Dale didn't show Bardo to NKY or St. Xavier until tonight. It was his coming out party. He shined. X keyed on Austin and it showed. That opened up Bardo. They had no answers for him b/c they've never seen that offensive threat. Nor has anyone so far this year. That is why Highlands won. Our backs did nothing against X. I don't even know who that defense was on the field. I've never seen that Highland defense.....Absolutely astonishing. Hey, we all predict outcomes based on what we have seen in the past. No one predicted the outcome of this game. 2 key turnovers sealed X's fate. They were totally dominated the entire game. Their run defense was great, but they had no clue about Bardo's running ability and it was blatently evident. Too bad a cheap foul could perhaps cost Highlands in the long run. Was it all worth it? Abso freakin' lutely!!!!!!! Cincinnati St. Xavier is going home a loser. Highlands wins and no one can ever take that memory away from those kids! Congratulations National Champs! You really shocked the nation tonight.....

Wow, I didn't call this one either.

Congrats Bluebirds!

I taped this one and will watch later next week.

This was the best HS football atmosphere I have ever witnessed and the Birds should feel proud. They were outmanned and outnumbered but they showed more fight and they executed very well. They struggled in the Red Zone and were not very opportunistic but that has a lot to do with X's stellar defense. They had AC's number most of the night and he had a rough night putting it on the carpet twice. However, Bardo was the true hero tonight as he had a lot of yards on the ground and threw the ball well also. Defensive standouts were Roller/Rosenhagen/Abner and super sophomores Devin Bruns #27 a hard hitting DB and #29 Josh Quillen a very good OLB. Austin ABner played a whale of a game also wiht a nice pick off a tipped ball. Travis Alford came to play tonight on defense and Brandon Roller showed why he is a Division 1 prospect with several nice hits and tackles. Also want to mention #53 Cam Deirig who was half the size of #78 the big James kid but he fought tooth and nail. Deirig was in the backfield a lot and played a heckuva a game. Overall the entire defense just brought it tonight. GReat job !!!

I loved watching the stunned St. X fans and it was pretty cool experiencing history tonight. This was probably the most significant Highlands victory in the history of the program. They beat a very good St. X team who came into this game with a head of steam.

Highlands is now the unanimous Class of the Commonwealth selection

Man the Bluebirds are solid. I give props to St.X defense though for all the goalline stops!!! Highlands is perhaps the premier Ky highschool team.

Have you not seen Highlands play before tonight? Bardo did tonight what he has done all year. He has been running the ball like that all year. X took away the deep ball and keyed on Collinsworth, so he just ran the ball like he has all year. I will agree that I do not know where that D has been hiding. The D was outstanding tonight. I believe coach was hiding alot of the D earlier in the year.

If Highlands wins out the rest of the season a Top 10 finish in the nation, and maybe even a Top 5 is defintaely in the realm of possibilities.

How did Collinsworth do and look? I know several UK fans who follow recruiting closely seem to think UK shouldn't be going after him. I disagree. John Cole, formerly of Somerset, is starting as a Soph for Vanderbilt and I think Collinsworth is a much more impressive player at the prep level.

If you have CBSCS then the game replays at 12 am tonight

UNREAL and very proud of the Bluebirds!!!! Congrats guys!

X had team had some huge kids on the team, They are going to win alot more games this year. I will say I was disappointed in X's QB, I would put Bardo head and shoulders over him( however I have only seen Massa play one game).

Wrong my brother. The entire offensive strategy centered on Bardo and Collinsworth. Think of Austin as the decoy. Dale knew X was keying on AC. No brainer... You can bet that the talented Bardo did not factor in as an offensive running threat to St. X. That is one of the reasons why they lost. In no other game this year has Bardo shone like tonight. He was their entire offense! I said after the Withrow game that it was going to be keepers and AC rushes with an occasional middle screen to either AC or Fennell. Give me an example of another game where the Bluebird offense relied entirely on the Bardo running game.....not one my brother. Tonight, the Birds showed their entire hand. With Bardo, they are unstoppable. St. Xavier is an incredibly talented and athletic team. Those kids had no answers tonight. The game was a total blowout and I am proud to have witnessed a game for the ages! Tonight it was Bardo's Birds! Stop the pass, they beat you with the run. Stop the run, they screen and run keepers......Their offense is unstoppable.
