Who Are the State Powerhouses?
#1
Who would you consider the powerhouses of KY high school football? Some that come to my mind:

Danville
Boyle
Rockcastle(maybe not anymore)
St. X
Trinity
Belfry
#2
Trinity, but of course.
#3
I could also throw Highlands in there.
#4
Belfry
Danville
Boyle
Highlands
St. X
Trinity

What about Louisville Male High School? They have been doing great for a long time, going to the state finals in 1993, 1998, 2000, 2001, and 2002. Not too bad I would say.

1A- Beechwood, Danville, and NewCath
2A- Belfry, Breathitt, E-town
3A- Boyle, Highlands
4A- The obvious, Trinity, Male, St. X, and Manuel.
#7
whoa whoa whoa there wheres pikeville in these lists? they have just as good of chance if not better than last years team to reach papa johns
#8
A -- Beechwood, Danville, Pikeville
AA - Belfry...a lot of others, none I would consider powerhouses
AAA - Highlands, Boyle Co., and as much as I hate to admit it, I think you have to throw Covington Cath in there to.
AAAA - The Big Three (X, Male, Trinity)

Pikeville IMO is not a powerhouse. In the late 80's early 90's they were but they need to whipe the dust off of those state title trophies. Yes they are in the Regional finals every year but they are in the weakest region in Kentucky ( ALL CLASSES). And yes I think Pikeville is a top notch program , but they are nowhere near a powerhouse like they once were. Beechwood and Danville are "Powerhouses" at the state level. Pikeville is a powerhouse at a regional level.

I Can agree whole-heartedly with that post. Pikeville was a state powerhouse....since the era of howard, i guess you could say they have lost their "zest". Although, i am oing to throw this out there...i think that has partly to do with recruits, or in being more politically correct: good feeder preograms, which IMO is why the north pretty much control single A football...although let me say this....if we were talking about powerhouses of all time then you would definately have to include pikeville in these lists.

if pikeville could recuit they would be in the state championship game every year as well gish...the fact of the matter is they do good with what they have and if they were allowed to recruit then you wuld see them playin on papa johns carpert every year like beechwood

They used to recruit big in the 80's. But yes, I think they do extremely well for a team who doesn't.
#13
I don't think Pikeville is a state powerhouse anymore. Pikeville is THE powerhouse as far as class A football in the mountains, but not statewide, as proven by the Pikeville v. Beechwood game this past November.

Where is Mayfield at?
#15
IMO Mayfield is in the same situation as Pikeville. Mayfield is a powerhouse in their region, but not state wide.

Are you serious? They are in Western KY, near Paducah.

Well yeah, I'd say that if most teams could recruit then they would be much better off. Where is Captain Obvious when you need him?
#18
Somebody call on this guy?
#19
fair enough..fair enough...im just saying they have the upperhand due to recruiting which is ILLEGAL in Pikevilles neck of the wood buddy thats all i am saying
#20
liveMAROON, what I'm saying is that its ILLEGAL EVERYWHERE, and that if everyone was allowed to recruit (not just Pikeville) then they would alot better off.
#21
I dont understand why pikeville cant recruit, other teams in Pike Co. are allowed to do it :?
#22
thanks red and black........gish if its illegal everywhere thenn just tell me one thing and ill cool the heat between us....why is beechwood allowed to recruit
#23
This is gettin out of hand.....I started the argument by saying recruit, however, i then justified myself in saying the politically correct term known as Feeder programs....Everybody hears of these so called scandals out there...the truth is that nobody really knows for sure because schools do such a good job at hiding that stuff...think about it...no school is going to risk being banned from playing football or any other kind of consequence the khsaa might repremand.

The bigger issue though lies with the feeder programs...the north has so many more elementary schools and private middle schools where kids play football.....eastern KY has some, but not nearly as many as the north....Think about it....that is the one reason that pikeville is probably the best 1A team in the mountains.....it is because of feeder programs.....pikeville elementary and middle schools start kids out at an early age at football so that when they reach the high school level the coaches can concentrate on fine tuning skills instead of haveing to teach kids from scratch the basics of football.
#24
OK Guys....Let this be the first warning. We need to get back on topic...Or the thread will be closed.
#25
liveMAROON, no heat from me brotha.
#26
My bad gish.........just a die hard fan.....i can get outta hand a lil.....haha mania this is all your fault. but I see where u can say they were a powerhous as where They are not now

Well when coach Howard come to Valley, David Jones wanted to come and coach Howard would not buy him a house or a apartment. So was Howard going with the rules not buying him that to come and play for Valley??
#28
Belfry would have to be considered the powerhouse football program in Eastern Ky..and in AA for that matter. But with Howard, Jones, and most of the offensive and defensive lines gone next year. I'd say it will be a long, frustrating year for the Pirate faithfull. At least it'll be in a brand new facility.
