Nathan Taylor was named player of the game by Russell's radio announcers. Good for Nathan, he punted well and ran good on some kick-off returns.

Give Ironton much credit. They are an excellent team. But give Russel credit too. While it was obvious they were upset at how things were going they lined up every down and went at Ironton hard.

I agree. I've always been impressed with him on the basketball court and he's turning out to be quite valuable to the football team as well.

The first 11:09 of the game you would never know the score would end up 45-0. They traded some punts and Russell was winning the field position game. Looked as though this was going to be a war. But then an excellent running back for Ironton exploded for 91 yards and the snowball started from there.

Did anybody hear how #44 was doing? Took a hard hit early in the 1st and never returned. I had heard he was a special talent for Ironton at running back.

Glad to see him playing football again. Russell coaching staff might want to use him more to give other RB's a breather.

Yes it did. It was almost as if the adrenaline wore off after the long TD run. Russell hit hard all night, but Ironton just had bigger and stronger guys. That seemed to take its toll after a while.

On the SE Ohio message board, they said he had a possible concussion. He remained on the bench, though, for the game. It looks like Ironton has several options at running back.

He is also one of only two red devils to catch a TD pass this year. The sparks kid is the only one who seems to be able to help them in the air since he is the only one to throw TD passes. Before tonight he was 2-2-51yds, two TD passes. Why are they playing around with the QB spot? Sparks is the senior too.

Yes they do. I was very impressed with all of them.

Any word on Will Rice? He was wearing ice on his knee.

Wow, just got word that there was some upset people at the Russell field house when the bus got back. Heard a fight almost broke out between coaches, players and parents.

Bout what I figured. Just a different level when you play the Lawrence Co. all-stars.
Ironton is no different than if all the best players from Russell/Ashland/Raceland/GC/BC all went to the same high school. They are basically a Catholic School team. That's why they had such a drop off when Luts left becuz about 15 kids transferred to their proper schools. Any kid with talent goes to Ironton to get exposure, they won't get seen at any other school. Just how it is. Ive seen Ironton pla every year for more than the last decade and this is the best they've had that I have seen.
Just hate that since we've played Ironton last time, we've had so many great teams that could have beat or played very close with them. And they go up against one of the weakest teams we've fielded in 2 decades. Last year, this year, 04, 01, and 97(which is by far the worst of all time) are the only teams I don't think could have competed with or beat Ironton.

I'm sorry but I strongly disagree. The '04 team was just as good and probably better than the '05 state title team.

I'm not sure why they're changing QB's so much. I figure they're just looking for the right guy now and will settle on one when they get into district play? That's just a thought. Dehoff probably runs the ball the best of the 3, but I really think he needs to be fresh and in on defense all of the time. I don't think there is a clear frontrunner for the QB position right now. It seems like the offense has moved about the same with all 3 in there.
As far as Will Rice goes, he looked to me like he was walking OK. It's obvious that they really need him to be OK as he is the heart of this team. I hope he comes back strong for the Ashland game.

I agree. He plays full throttle every down. Too bad his frame isn't 6'2" 220lbs!!

All I can say to this is surely not! What is there to fight or argue about? Any reasonable fan can see we went up against what appeared to be a small college team out there tonight.

Been following this group for quite a while. Sparks has attempted 1 rush this year. How can he be judged on that? Plus he was the starter on their 7th, 8th and freshman teams. Last year he backed up A.J. Cordle admirably and even had fans chanting to put him in over A.J. last year. Seemed to have passed and run the ball fine in the J.V. games last year. Saw some passing league games this summer and Sparks was one of the most accurate out there and Russell won that league is memory serves. My biggest thing is he is a senior. Gotta go with the senior if there is no huge difference in the three.

What I am hearing is a couple parents are upset their senior kids did not see the playing field tonight.
09-05-2009, 01:33 AM
A russell coach apparently threw a plate of food down to the ground and it splashed all over a couple players and he ran and got into the face of a parent and then other players and coaches jumped in to separate the two. Sounds like they could used some of that fire in the game tonight.

Dude, Ironton is a different league this year.
The Kitty Cats better get ready because I to think Russell has a chance to beat Ashland. But then Ashland gets the Tiggers and it will be smoked ***** cat on the menu.
Ironton is just that good.:worthy:
Couple reasons ashland has a chance vs the tiggers
1. Game is at putnam so ironton refs buy a ticket and watch there kids play from stand
2.Ironton means more to ashland russell players can't remember the tigers but tomcats see them every year
3. New offense new qb sam has looked really good running the spread I believe no ints so far last year royalty qb'd the ironton game
4. Offensive line for cats is a strong point of this time
5. Albers will be tough for tigers plus tigers will have to deal with ashlands athleticism and quickness
Those r just my opinions ironton by all means deserves to be the favorite in the game
But first we must focus on a russell team looking for redemption

I heard a couple names but don't want to start rumors on particular people when I haven't heard the whole story. Sounds like an assistant coach, at least one parent and a player or two were doing all the shouting. Seems to revolve around the feeling seniors are being treated unfairly and coaches who have kids on the team are using their position to keep theirs in the game. That should clue you in on part of it anyway.

wow!
I was at the game.
Ironton is that good.
Ashland doesn't have a prayer unless this years Tomcats are better than the 1990 Tcats.
As for the after game antics. People just need to calm down and realize its just football.

I think Beetle just got his years mixed up...He probably meant '03...That was Gross' junior year and the year after the VERY GOOD '02 team...I think most who have been around for awhile agree that '04 was a very good team, probably the best in the decade with the exception of the '02 team...Some feel the '05 championship team may not have been quite as good as the '06 team that lost to "Merger" County in the finals...They just had the ball bounce their direction when they needed it to and that's what it takes sometimes...A break here or there and we EASILY could have 4 state championships in this decade...Not a bad run of athletes between '02 & '06!!!!
Beetle is right...We picked the wrong time to jump back into a series with Ironton...From what I heard about last night (I missed the game because I was officiating a volleyball match in Morehead) the one positive that we can take from the game is the team apparently fought hard the entire game...We were just outmanned...That's a HUGE improvement over last year's team where the miscontents on the team spoiled the team chemistry and the season...

Please let what happened at the field house last night die. It is obvious that the people posting were not there and do not know what happened so they can not accurately comment on this.
