4a alone shows why you shouldn't have polls this early. How in the world does Boyd County get votes when they haven't had much of anything in the past and then loss their first game to 1A Raceland? I know Raceland is rank in the top five but come on.

Excellent point. These polls have extreme mood swings early in the season.

More examples include:

Ashland and JC tied? JC has dominated the recent series and lost to powerhouse Boyle County. Ashland defeated a currently below average Greenup County team.

Mason County gets an impressive victory over Danville and is now receiving 1st place votes in 3A over Breathitt County? (or Central for that matter)

Sandbagger... I think we and everyone else in the state knows that Belfry is a top 10 team in 3A and the Mountains.

Belfry didn't lose to a bad team. Prestonsburg is a top 10 team in the Mountains and in class 2A. Plus, P'burg is known for their fast starts and Belfry is better known for their slow starts. I'm sure if the two played again at the end of the season this would have been an even better game and one that Belfry may have even won. Add to the fact that Belfry didn't know what they where going up against as they didn't have any film to go over to get ready for P'burg. Everyone knew that Belfry was going to do their usual wishbone, belly, option offense.

I'll take up for Mason County. Knowing what they had comming back this year and how well coached they are I have touted them ever since the end of last season. I think they are very deserving of the high rankings that they are now getting.

as much as belfy improved from the 1st quater until the end of the game,and they improve from week to week,they will be a hard out in the playoffs..

Prestonsburg and Belfry are always Top Teams in the Mountains and State every single season. So I think Belfry still is in the tops of state.

AP does a terrible job of covering the mountains mainly because there are very few AP sports writers in the mountains. But come on, Phelps and Betsy Layne receiving votes and Paintsville and Allen Central receiving none. Has Phelps or Betsy Layne ever beaten Paintsville? I know Allen Central has not.

I agree. They do not deserve any votes at this time but Paintsville doesn't either as they got drilled this past weekend. Paintsville shouldn't be ranked on what they done 10, 20, or 30 years ago. Rankings are all about now not the glorious days of of the past.

I agree to a point. No, Phelps and BL doesn't deserve votes. AC and Paintsville should have for sure received votes over those two though. And as for you comment about Paintsville getting drilled...It was a pretty decent 4A school that did it and BL got beat by a school that has NEVER won a game. So come and be a little more realistic here.

I completely agree with the high ranking. Third place is perfect for them at the moment. But, compared to Breathitt, I don't think they should be receiving any 1st place votes. Breathitt is also returning a ton from a team who made it the state championship this past season.

I agree Allen Central should have gotten votes and Betsy Layne and Phelps shouldn't with the Bobcats loss to Brossart and Phelps win over a hapless Jenkins team. I do think it would be ridiculous to give Paintsville votes for the top ten when they lost to a team 54-20 on their home field. A team whose combined record for the previous three football seasons is 3-29. Lawrence County may be a good football team this year but that still has yet to be proven. You can't be more REALISTIC then that.

I didn't say that Paintsville deserved any votes. If you will re-read the post. I was saying that "AC and Paintsville should have for sure received votes over those two though.". That is all. Once they start District play they will be fine though.

Not really, but Class A seems to always have teams get votes that are mediocre.
