Wow this one was closer than I expected. What some of the details of this game? Has Boyd improved that much or did Raceland not play up to par?

So Raceland came back from 12 down with under 3 to win it.. must have been a great game.

I could see Raceland losing 2 or 3 in regular season this year starting next week with Ashland.

Great game played by the rams and lions both. The rams did not give up and played until the end. Both racelands starting runningbacks/linebackers are out due to injury. But the slots were filled great by #34 M.Litteral. Once everyone is back healthy should be some great depth!

wow What a game!

Raceland did not play the best game in world. Boyd Co. totally lost their composure at the end of the game, ripping a player's helment off and fumbling. Number 11 for Boyd is their offense, Raceland could not stop him.
Went to this game and it was entertaining. Boyd Co. choked and who ever calls the plays for Raceland needs to be replaced. Both teams were weak. But it was a fun game to watch. Raceland will run into a wall next week with Ashland with a running clock. Boyd wont survive Belfry it will be a lot of pain. But good luck the rest of the year for both teams until the Devils come to town.......

What happened to Boyd? Weren't they up 2 scores with like 5 min left? That's what I get for turning the game off i guess.

I was at the game and it was a good one. Raceland I thought coulda pulled away early but didnt and they fought back for a nice win. Boyd looked out of shape. Good luck to both teams except when you take on the maroon and gold.

After Raceland scored to pull within 26-21 Boyd Co. totally imploded. All they needed to do is to get a first down but they fumbled on the first play. Then on the first play on the winning drive a kid from Boyd Co. ripped off the RB's helment from Raceland while trying tackle him. After that, it looked like Boyd quit.

fun game to watch, felt both teams matched up pretty well. both teams had a chance to pull away. i agree about racelands play calling was poor, at the end o 1st half passing was the right decision with very little time left and no time-outs left but all routes have to be across goal line or its the same as running. however in the 2nd half when they got inside the 10 by running the the ball then going to 4 straight passsing plays poor decision. both teams had some players make big plays boyds quarterback, and recievers as well as racelands quarterback, backs, and receivers. the burchett kid had a big tackle saving a touchdown on the kick off as well

Is Boyd better than expected or did the hit of graduation REALLY hurt Raceland that bad??
08-23-2009, 06:47 PM
A little bit of both. I saw alot of football this weekend. I put Boyd Co. above Greenup and fairview both. Didn't get a chance to see Russell but I dare to say it would be a good game between the two.

Should be an interesting district this fall with Boyd playing this well from what I am assuming..

Boyd is much improved from the last few years. They also have switched to a totally different style of Offense for 2009.
They should have won but mental mistakes cost them the game. That situation should improve.
The players better get serious and learn to keep their heads in the game if they want to win another District Title. Otherwise it will be another 30 years before they see one in Cannonsburg.

Very well put:Thumbs:. There were several times when I thought we stopped the back at the line of scrimmage. Only to see someone else going down field on a 25 yard gain.

Boyd is better than everybody thought they would be. Raceland is pretty decent on offense and will get better as we get more players back. Defensively is what concerns me. I am no football guru by any stretch of the imagination but our linebackers look lost out there on the field.

Very true. However as i'm sure you know it hurts when the three starting linebackers are out. :getwell:

I would disagree with you that Fairview and Greenup is way behind Boyd County. Greenup did get killed but Ashland is the best team in the region and they did some good things at times just don't have enough speed to keep up with Ashland. Fairview will be very good in a few weeks its early in my opinion they have lots of speed for a single A school and they will keep getting better I'm sure because they are one of the best coached teams in the area along with Russell and Raceland. I think teams around the area are all pretty much equal this season with Ashland being the top dog. Boyd County just gave the game away to Raceland and I dont think Raceland is near as good as last season but how could they be. I like how they fought back but Boyd giving away a game the way it happened is once in 10 years kind of thing. I too saw alot of football and I think all teams have improving to do obviously but I really like Fairview, and Ashland.
08-24-2009, 11:46 PM
Fairview has some speed that's for sure. But they are sooooo small and weak. Probably one of the smallest highschool teams I've ever seen. I was at the Fairview/West game. If there was a Boyd/fairview game this week i'd say Boyd 35 Fairview 7. Boyd is much bigger and stronger. Fairview's tackling is not up to par either. And BC showed against Raceland what happens if you don't wrap up. However Fairview has games to prepare and they tend to hit stride once into the season. As for Greenup they are much better than the past couple years. After this saturday I'll have a better feel about them. Using last weeks game against Ashland is not a good comparison. But everyone has an opinion and mine could be wrong. Competition is tight this year in our area and it should make for a great season with some good surprises.
08-25-2009, 03:02 PM
I disagree about the size and strength of Fairview but you are entitled to your own opinion. I saw them play Friday second half and while they made mistakes they are big up front and defense flys around. You must not think 230 lbs lineman are big guys??? Single A teams aren't supposed to be as big as Boyd County which is 4A, Duh? Raceland found a way to beat Boyd County and they are much smaller than Boyd so what does size have to do with anything.

How come the Rams never get any credit for anything. How come boyd gave the game away? We caused the fumble.....I think we took it away. We fought back and our conditioning took over. If we had everybody healthy on this team we wouldn't even be talking about this game. We would be talking about what a battle that Ashland game is going to be. I still think it will be a battle.
