In almost 23 years of coaching, Paintsville's Bill Mike Runyon has got to be one of the best coaches in the state. 4 more wins and he will have averaged 20 wins for every season he has coached. That includes seasons where his team was down and went 4-22, 6-19, and a few others. Coached 2 Mr. Basketballs, had Paintsville all the way up to a Top 25 spot in the Nation, a year when his team went 33-4, played against top players such as Jermaine O'Neil, Mike Bibby, Tayshaun Prince, and the list goes on. Webb was a good coach for such a short stint, but look at the long haul. 4 State Final Fours, more than a handful of All A Region Titles, WYMT quit inviting them after they won it 3 years in a row, a State Title, and the list goes on. People who can say that any other coach in the 15th has done that is badly mistaken.

Wow, Both of those stats are quite impressive! But BMR is by far the best IMO!
02-01-2005, 11:48 AM
BMR is the best handsdown, but someone saying Henry Webb was overrated has no clue about 58th district basketball.
02-01-2005, 12:28 PM
I think Henry Webb was a good coach. But Henry lead alice loyd in scoring for 2 or 3 years and broke the scoring record. He was a top notch player also. Bill Mike Runyon is a great coach tho. Both have impressive records and achievements.

Henry Webb was definately NOT overrated, BUT to say is/was the best coach in 15th Region is CRAZY. BMR is the best, and when he retires we will be saying he WAS the best until someone accompishes more than what he did. BMR is like the Dean Smith/Bobby Knight/Eddie Sutton/Mike Creschki(i have no idea how to spell it, lol) of 15th Region basketball.
Like Flowmaster said, 4 more wins and Runyon will have averaged 20 wins a season for his career (been coaching like 23 years), aint too shabby.

Hahahahahaha, Rodney Rowe wasn't half the coach of half the coaches in the 15th region. I know that is an over-statement, but some people get the big head I guess when they win the Region, in back to back years. Its a shame he couldn't coach Valley to a win in either appearence. Runyon is undoubtedly the man, the myth, the legend that every coach wants to be like. Took teams to a three peat of 15th regional titles, then later on to a four peat. His state tourney record is 14-5, hmm, Rowe is 0-2. Incase you didn't see my post earlier you should take a long, hard look at it. I'm sure Valley hasn't played in "Invitation ONLY Tournements" where the team was flown to the spot of the tourney by the host. Besides how many coaches can you say in the 15th region has beaten both Oak Hill and Dematha, NONE. So until a team gets to that point, and achieve a Top 15 spot in the Nation, and have coached kids to become McDonald's All-Americans, don't say someone else is a top coach in the Region other than BMR.

David Rowe at PCC is a great coach. If you saw the talent he gets year in and year out you would understand. He gets players as freshmen who have zero...and i mean zero athletic ability and knowledge of basketball, yet he always remains in the upper half of the 15 region. There should be no point in high school sports were you got to teach kids how to back peddle

That makes NO SENSE at all. How can someone have "talent" if they have ZERO athletic ability and knowledge.
02-03-2005, 01:58 PM
Henry Webb shouldn't even be compared to BMR.. BMR is the best hands down
02-03-2005, 02:47 PM
what reading level are you at...He's a great coach because he doesn't get talented players, please read the post again and attempt to comprehend please before posting.
02-03-2005, 05:57 PM
Pooface, I believe he was referring to the fact that you said that he gets talent in, then they have zero or no athletic ability. So what writing level does that make you at? Zero and no means the same thing.

You are joking I hope. From what I have seen he may be the worst. Thier jv coach is way better. Bill Mike is hands down the best with Hurley from East Ridge next. Also from what I have seen I like Randy Casey from Belfry.

What are you talking about, you said "If you saw the TALENT he gets year in and year out you would understand. He gets players as freshmen who have zero...and i mean zero athletic ability and knowledge of basketball." Are you with me here POOP, HOW can someone have TALENT IF they have ZERO KNOWELDGE of basketball OR ZERO ATHLETIC ABILITY. When you can answer me and everyone else that question, please do.

David Rowe is a great coach i must say he has a nery good ast coach behind him though. David has took many great teams from nobodys to Regional contenders such as the 93-94 Regional Runner ups or the 98-99 team who also were Regional Runner-ups. David Rowe will be remembered as a great coach in the 15th Region once he retires and then the Reigns will b passed on to Phillip Birchfield who in the 98-99 season took over the head job for 2 weeks when Rowe had surgrey.
BMR- that mans a GREAT GREAT coach

Bamma, not to be disrespectful but coach rowe is one of the worst coaches i have ever seen. Why do you think hes never won a regional championship? He probably won't either. Ive watched talent that came to that school go to waste because he doesn't know how to make it any better than it is. Im sorry but i really disagree with you on this. He hasnt a 20 win season since i dont know when. Ive seen coaches that could take the team they have this year and be beating the whole 15th right now. I mean come on? The 15th is very weak right now. If you can't beat anyone here, how are going to compete with anyone else outside the region? Sorry Bamma but I have to disagree on that one but everyone has their right to their opinion.
