[quote=TheMasterpiece]SO......what does that matter? Its still the same school system and if he was interested in the job he should have a chance at it.[/QU
Same school district at wrong school. Isn't he the AD at Cordia.

How long do you think he has to wait till he get a Head Coaching job? Going to Knott means he would have to wait. If that is what he wants to do then that is fine, but if you want to be a head coach now then if the Cordia job is open I would take it.

I dont know if this has any meaning to it or not, but I have seen Trent hanging around Knott Co. quite frequently lately.
06-12-2009, 02:34 PM
He will have to wait one year more than likely and I think will step into the coaching job after this season at KCC. Should have been there this year..but oh well..Sick of hearing about it and will just leave it at that!

I apologize! I thought from another post it was. Still if he wants to be a head coach now, then he needs to look.

He sure does move around alot. Honeycutt should be AD, imop, hes put in the time.

Trent will take the job that gives him the most support. He didn't get that at LCC, and was never mentioned for any job other than soccer.

Honeycutt definitely deserves the AD job, but you never know what will go on in Knott County, they people that put in the most time and hard work don't always get rewarded for their effort.

I heard Trent got the AD job over honeycutt and Couch today. If thats true its a joke. Guess this is the job he gets from his aunt for not giving him the head coaching job. He's going to be the boss over people that have lived and worked in knott county their whole lives and he's never been a head coach....good hire.:lmao:

You are right that this was a good hire. A great hire for Knott County. This is a coach that has coached and played a number of sports. A school system should not be shortsighted and hire someone else that has been there longer or coaches basketball. Even though it is the most important sport in the mts. basketball is not the only sport and it is best for the kids that have an AD that is knowledgable in other sports also.

And Honeycutt hasn't. He was the coach at Cordia, went to Knott Co. , went back to Cordia. Politics is what got Cavanaugh hired but isn't that what Knott Co. is all about, politics.

This is a district wide AD........I don't see how someone could come in with no head coaching experience and do this job effectively......this job is going to take someone that knows about every school and sport in the district and know the needs at these schools.......going to be hard for who ever gets it....

I know in Knott County, they feel the only sport is basketball and last year they had a good baseball team(the first in a while). Cavanaugh was assistant basketball coach at Whitesburg, Perry Central, and Letcher Central. He as been head softball coach at Whitesburg and Perry Central. Head Soccer coach at Letcher Central. Assistant baseball coach at Letcher Central. His job will be athletics director not basketball director. He has a great deal of experience in several sports and has experienced success in all of them. Cavanaugh will be an asset in helping Knott Central be something other than a one sport school. Lets look at the sports program at Knott Central
Soccer - they do not have it, although smaller schools in the region do.
Cross-Country - not aware if they have it or not
Football - the program is pitiful and has been most of the time.
Volleyball - the program is pitiful and has always been.
Boys Basketball - will contend for region this year, but average after that.
Girls Basketball - average
Wrestling - does not exist.
baseball - Couch appears to have turned it around after several pitiful seasons
Softball - the program is pitiful and always has been
tennis - unaware if they have a team
track - unaware if they have a team

I will have to respectfully disagree, Trent is excellent with kids, he has played and coached a lot of sports, he is a first class person!!! I know it may be a DISTRICT WIDE, position, but he is a tireless worker, and hard will breed success!!! GOOD LUCK TRENT!!!!!

Regardless, they need some new blood because evidently recycling the same old people is not working for them.

Who's been recycled? You would think a county would take care of its own, but guess not this one. There are qualified people working in knott county.

I agree!! Everyone has to start somewhere at sometime. I think he is a good hire, IMO, he is young and has lots of energy and will work very hard for KCC athlectics. I know how much Cavanaugh loves sports and I think he will be awesome!! We all know he will not be alone in any decision making. Good luck Cavanaugh!!

I really get sick of hearing this comment. You hire the right person for the job, not just whoever. Now, some say that he is related to the SI, in this position, that is fine, he will do a wonderful job here in Knott County. I have been here most of my adult life and do see a lot of politics, but this is a different hire.
I think the folks here in Knott need to just wait, and see what happens. I don't think anyone from other surrounding counties has anything different than politics, look at Perry, looke at Hazard, look at them all, don't just focus on Knott, it's everywhere.

So Trent is the new AD at Knott Co? Or What? Is this Offical?
