She'll be a good one. She was coached by in my opinion the best girls coach in Jenkins history Jerry Bentley. So she knows the game well. And should put this team back on track.

and no mr. bentley doesn't need to come back! coach tolliver is going to send the lady cavs to state.
Jenkins won six games last season (2007-08) under coach bentley. Last win was the first ever over LCC and was in the district tournament.
Won one game this season (2008-09) with basically the same players.

thanks Sherman, however, I don't think I was the best girls coach. Teresa won more games and Henry Ed Wright took two Jenkins Girls teams to the sweet sixteen.

Lets see how politics ruin a program,,,,
You are a losing program (jenkins) you get lucky and get a coach in Chris Tolliver who decides to take over a horribly ran program, only with the thoughts of building it back to what it should be. A coach who left a 16th region championship team in mid season to move back to his roots to help build a program in his own county where he lived his whole life. Note the fact he WAS getting paid in a school district that was one of the highest in the state.
To take a job with a team he knew was in terrible shape, horribly ran, and completly depleated compared to the team he currently coached. Not to mention a team that was abandonded in mid season by a coach Jerry Bentley. Who took the luxery of scheduling games knowing he was leaving in mid season. Translation that means he scheduled games he knew they could not win which in turn meant the new coach hired would not win games either. Trying only to make himself not look so horrible as a coach.
Now you have a coach in Chris Tolliver who takes the team he is given fights through all the problems, people attached to the program that he had to keep, also not having practice time, no money to fund a program, and only a few parents that support him. He takes this team and does his best to get the team prepared for a new year his first upcoming full year.
WHAT DO YOU DO (JENKINS)
"TERMINATE" HIM WHY Because he actually tried to coach a team with the best players on the floor and THAT caused him to ruffle a few feathers on the school board/site based council who had children on the team who were not better than some kids who were playing CONGRATULATIONS JENKINS
Lets see what you have lost here are Coach Tollivers Credentials only because you are not smart enough to realize what you have:
His credentials listed below might be new to you all,,,,i am sure you have not known them before now:
-1 regional championship as player 1 time in 53 years a team made it to state tourney from our county in basketball
-former college basketball/ baseball player
-2 consecutive district titles (head ast coach)
-2 consecutive regional titles (head ast coach)
-2 consecutive 20 + win seasons (head ast coach)
-only 11 losses in 2 seasons (head ast coach) all of which to top 25 teams in state
-34-2 record as (jv head coach)
-2 consecutive region sweeps undefeated season in the 16th region (head ast coach)
Here is what you have gained New Coach Ashley Addington's credentials:
Nothing against her but lets be honest is the the right hire to rebuild a program in the shape jenkins is currently in: (not because of Coach Tolliver)
- no experience
- never played college basketball
- never coached a team period EVER
So congratualtions Jenkins you have truly thrown yourselves into a hole again by letting POLITICS ruin a program,,,,,,,Good Luck next season I am sure your games will be alot easier, WHY cause this coach actually knew what he was doing........he scheduled games so the kids could have a chance of success because WHY he wanted to WIN not for himself but because he knew the kids would be able to enjoy it a little more,,,,,,,hmmmm,,,,,,kinda makes a little more sence than politics in a school,,,,you know the thought a person might care about the kids who play for him more than the people around the program who should not be involved,,,,,
I hope new coach addington knows what she is getting into,,,,my next article will probely have to defend her as well because if their is a chance JENKINS will definitly mess up her chance at improving the program as well,,,,

well, Jerry Bentley is the one who left.
Coach Tolliver is the one who came in mid-season ,because of that, to help the program after it was left in a mess.

I agree with what you're saying about politics and I agree that Coach Tolliver got screwed as a result of politics but just because you're right on that doesn't make you right on everything else you've said.
First of all you're listing Tolliver's coaching credientials like they are all his accomplishments when you even go as far as to list that he was merely an assistant coach in a lot of those accomplishments. An assistant coach can't lay claim to those accomplishments, those are for the head coach who couldn't have done them without help but that doesn't make them any more the assistant's accomplishments.
And the Jenkins schedule was chock full of sub-.500 teams that Jenkins had the chance to defeat but simply didn't. Jerry Bentley didn't make out an impossible schedule as you're trying to make it sound. If anything Bentley should have made a harder schedule so these girls could actually learn something from the teams they were playing...that is the only short-coming of Bentley's in this matter. The majority of the schedule was against teams that ended up losing more than they won and the Jenkins girls simply didn't get it done.
That is something that is running rampant at Jenkins...people blaming everyone else but the coaches and the players. They blame politics, the refs, the other team's fans, the moms and dads of the kids they don't like...it's everyone but the team and the coach. Fact is that 9 time out of 10 when you watched the Lady Cavs play basketball last year the majority of the team was running at half speed before halftime and couldn't wait for the game to end. One exception would be the transfer from Letcher Central because she had something to prove (and she's not the only exception but she stands out). Their hearts were not in it either because they didn't want to be there or were not inspired enough to want to be there and that falls on the coach.
As for Ashley Addington's credentials, you're correct in that she hasn't coached high school basketball. She has, however, worked as an assistant to April Damron on the girls softball team for years so she knows how to work with kids. Basketball is a whole different world but the fact remains that she has coaching experience. She also knows the game backwards and front and her attitude will not allow her to get sucked into the politics that may exist. I've known her all my life and she's a hard-nosed competitor but is very compassionate when it comes to the ideals of being a team.
She's also a former Lady Cavalier and who better to have coaching the team than someone who actually cares about the team? At least Jenkins got this one right after they passed over Harvey Tackett for the Superintendant's position. It's about time they start putting people in charge that actually cares about the school system and looks at it as more than just a business to run.
And I feel sympathatic to Coach Tolliver because he came into a no-win situation because of the shape of things at Jenkins but he is gone and there is no changing that. But to say that Addington is somehow inferior to Tolliver is completely innaccurate.

So I'm wondering how much did you actually watch the Lady Cavs? You stated that the transfer from LCC was an exception.........please! She could barley get the ball up the floor. I saw better players, ones who cried after losses, and worked their butts off to stop a shot. I never saw her cry, sprint her butt down the floor, or make wonderful passes. There were passes over the players heads. I know she wasn't one of the ones who walked after a turn over, but she wasn't one of the ones who sprinted back either. I'm not saying she is a horrible player because she isn't, but I'm saying I did see ones who were better.
And Politics do have something to do with this. Two girls weren't the star players like Mr. Bentley made them out to be, so their parents did whatever they could to take down Mr. Tolliver! And it looks like it worked.

I watched them enough to know that your opinion on that transfer is way off. I didn't try to make it out like she was the best on the team. You're the one trying to turn this around on me, but you can't. It's a fact that a lack of hustle and bad attitudes brought down that team. They had a cupcake schedule by any other team's standards and they finished with 1 win...1 WIN!
The trouble started not long after Tolliver arrived and it came from what a few of the girls came home and told mommy and daddy. He got in their faces and they didn't like it. He checked their attitudes and they ran home crying. One story that was told was that he asked the girls to list teams that they wanted to beat and the first answer was LCC. According to some of the more vocal parents, he said to "keep dreaming" or something along those lines. But then you had several players who said themselves that Tolliver never ever said anything like that. That is the root of the problems with your "star-players" on that team...attitudes! The attitudes begat the problems with the politics of the school system.
But to say that Kiser didn't sprint her butt off down the floor is ludicris. And especially to say that she didn't hustle, or in your words "sprint back", after a turnover is ignorant. You can get on here and flame me all you want to for my observations, but that girl worked her tail off to prove that she deserved playing time, no only at her new school but also at the one she left.

I'm close to one of the players who played for Coach Tolliver, and let me just say that the statment about keep dreaming is false. This player tells me EVERYTHING.....and the statement was that they needed to be the games before LCC, well knott county was the test. So that statement is way off.
The Kiser girl didn't work her butt off. She didn't play half as good as what you are saying she did. I'm tired of how ones who work their butts off don't get credit, but the ones who don't get the credit. I watched every game of the Lady Cavs and the Kiser girl threw the ball everywhere except for where it should go. I saw girls who are heavier weighted than her get back and stop the shot. But she sprinted everytime? I know of one player who let things Ms. Kiser and other players said about her get into her head, and make her feel bad for an awesome game; that right there is great heart isn't it? Seriously.....what is it going to take for you to see the truth? The stats; like the games the team had 30 some turn overs and half of them were hers? She is not what you are saying she is, simple as that!

Whoever said that Coach Tolliver said to dream on lied! I am close to one I the players and what he said was to name teams we have played that we shpul have beaten, then he said KCC was the test when we beat them we can beat LCC! So don't go saying things that you don't know.
I watched every game and ms. Kiser didnot play like you are saying. She threw the ball everywhere but where the ball should to. What will make you see that the stats? When the team has over 30 turn-overs and over 20 were hers she is an outstanding player? Look at the facts. She also talked about the players an how they shouldn't be playing! But she is the only one with heart? Face it, what your saying is wrong. When he got taken out of a game she cried because she wasn't playing and she was embarrassed. I would love to know who you are watching

Well, I think the changes being made at the school is a positive. Tolliver was a handpick by Harvey, promises that he made and could not back up in his political ways. The politics are there as with all school systems but they are changing. I also agree that some parents, one that works in the school creates a MESS with this team and others. Changes are good, just read the papers on money mis-handled, teachers who are on leave for mis-conduct and principals demoted for their lack of handling all realms of the entire education community at Jenkins, changes will make it stronger.

She talked about the players?
oh please, do refresh my memoru and tell me what all she had said.
cuz if im not mistaken, Kiser is the one who let things get to her own because of what other people were saying.
yes, she did have some turnover, but she was the point gaurd, she handled the ball majority of the time and point gaurds will have majority of the turnovers, but to say that she had 20 of 30 is ludicris.
and im pretty sure she did cry after some games, but you don't need to cry after every loss <--- notice i said loss, and not jerked out to sit on the bench.
sometimes you need to accept a loss because sometimes other teams played better than you did or hustled and work harder than you did.
but when you do lose, you lose as a team....and when you win, you win as a team.
no, she is not the best player...but if you look at the team there is no star player. NONE. jenkins is still learning and trying to build a good program but progress takes time.
i will say that it is people like you who start crap and say things to tear a team apart. This is ignorance.

Hey dumbazz, I clearly stated both sides of the LCC remark and if you cannot tell that I didn't believe that to have been said, then look at the beginning of this post for you new surname.
As far as Kiser goes, you're proving yourself to be even more ridiculous than I thought you could have possibly been. Am I disputing your stats, no. Sierra may have had 20 turnovers in a game, but when you've got a bunch of girls wearing the same jersey as you that are running at half-speed and not making a reasonable attempt to get open then yeah, you can have a bunch of turnovers. This was the case and that is a fact. Do you realize that you're just quoting facts without considering the game situation? It's really easy to look at a stat book and pass judgement on a player but their true worth is displayed with all aspects of the game and the game situation are taken into account. You obviously have no comprehension of this or you wouldn't be shooting off at the mouth like you are.
As far as her attitude, she was a shining example of what a ball player should be. I never once saw her cry for being taken out (I'm not disputing that it MAY have happened but it sure would have been a rarity if it did.) She played harder than anyone else out there on the varsity team and she played as a team player. And how would you know that she was badmouthing her teammates? Are you one of them? Do you have something to say to her? If so, grow up and say it and quit hiding behind the internet.
If there wasn't a lack of heart and a real attitude problem on that team, they wouldn't have lost all but one game with a cupcake schedule like the one they had. Think about it for a second...half the team sided against the coach! And they did it for no GOOD reason! What does that tell you?

Coach Tolliver is the one who came in mid-season ,because of that, to help the program after it was left in a mess.
Mid season is not in early november. Coach bentley left the girls basketball program because he and his wife were treated unfairly by the upper administration.

firechief, be careful as to what you say. Sounds like slander. We will see how good things are. Right now they are a mess. If you are involved it will continue to be a mess. From what i hear you could also be in trouble for grabbing a female student and manhandling her...... What goes around comes around.

Give Ashley a chance..I like Chris, and I do believe he was in over his head this past season, and done the best he could, but the girls will respond well with Ashley. Rome wasnt built in a day, and this is something all the Jenkins fans need to accept. I like the hire, and I think she'll do a great job in Jenkins.

I agree. I just have one question. Did she play b-ball in high school, cause she graduated a year after I did, and I don't remember her playing.

Ashley played basketball and softball in high school. She is a 2002 graduate.

So I am thinking of a different Ashley Addington then. The one I was thinking about graduated in 96 or 97. Sorry. How did she do in basketball then?

I agree, i think she will do a great job with the program. I have no doubts in her whatsoever..
I just dont think Chris should be blamed for last season. The girls are the ones who are out their playing on the court. if they win or lose, that is their choice...
but it is in the past now,
now we are to focus on the 2009-10 season..
