I really don't see why ER is the only HS in Pike County that will be open tomorrow.
05-13-2009, 01:27 AM
I'm thinking Shelby Valley is having school, I don't see why their feeder schools would be open and not the High School.
05-13-2009, 01:35 AM
Personally I think that it should be declared a disaster and the schools be let out for the rest of the year. Some schools shouldn't have to go 2 more weeks or others not.

I'm not really understanding the whole point of some schools going and others not, the schools all get out in "such and such creek" is iced over in winter. One hollow being messed up can get the whole county out for snow, but half of Belfry is missing and schools are still in session? This makes no sense.

Some students will head back to school Wednesday in Pike County for the first time since the flooding.
13 schools will remain closed but nine will be open.
If your school IS NOT on this list that means that your school remains closed.
The Pike County schools that will be OPEN tomorrow are:
East Ridge High School
Feds Creek Elementary
Elkhorn City Elementary
Millard Middle
Millard Elementary
Shelby Valley High School
Virgie Middle School
Dorton Elementary
G.F. Johnson Elementary

Tribe, add Shelby Valley to that list unless otherwise clarified at a later time, many people have told me Shelby Valley is still going.
05-13-2009, 01:43 AM
I don't think that schools not affected should be let out.... that's ridiculous and uncalled for. Just because certain schools are flooded doesn't mean that the surrounding areas should be deprived.

It's already on it.
This was straight from WYMT.

But what is with a hollow being iced over in Virgie aiding in East Ridge getting out of school, this is the same situation.

I'm talking about my list, somehow it doesn't have Valley on it, and I don't want people opening this thread and thinking Valley is out.

Yeah, I know.
I've been off my game.
Lol.
And about Belfry Middle going back, I don't see that happening unless they can find a place to put all the students.

Well JC had over 10 foot of water at their school. It was over the roof in the baseball concession stand and you couldn't even see the football field. Were all familiar with the "If one county schools out, they're all out" but David Rowe called the State Department and asked if school was able to session because PC has no problems. Kimper wasnt really hit that hard except for a couple of trees and huge mud puddles, so they issued school to be held also

I have two neices that goes to Belfry middle, as of right now, no one knows for sure, but they more than likely will not go back. 8th grade graduation and final testing will probably be at the high school.

Real Badman Wrote:Johns Creek?I stopped and looked at JC yesterday when I was up that way and IMO it will be a stetch to get that place ready to go back in August. There is still standing water in the basement.

How do they not have the water out yet? Belfry had a truck pumping water out of the middle school all night Saturday so that all that was left Sunday morning was mud. Why didn't Johns Creek do the same?
