The KHSAA Board of Controls voted 18 - 0 today to move Sheldon Clark from the 57th to the 60th district starting in 2009. What I understand the Superintendet send a letter to the KHSAA saying that SC did not want to move . There had to be some reason why this move was made and its a good bet that somewhere down the line it will be learned that SC volunteered. Guess this seals the deal on Darrin Rice leaving and you can expect a mass exodus of girlls playing leavuing as well. From what I am hearing that if Rice does leave then the superintendent will make Roger Harless coach of both the boys and girls teams.:flush: But let me hear your thoughts

60th District....? Am I missing something here? Last time I checked there was no 60th district..

Last years "Super District" was just an experiment IMO to keep Phelps out of the regional tournament that didn't work. Now it's back to the same as it was minus Piarist which I guess is why SC got put in it.

what will happen to the 59th districtThey only have 3teams!
04-15-2009, 12:14 AM
From what I am hearing the 59th will still have only three teams but the move to put SC in with Phelps, Pike Central and Belfry was what the commissioner called in the best interest of the entire 15th region. Marvin Moore who is on the board of controls is a joke and Lawrence County should been the one to move.

So where will the 60th district be held at this year?
04-15-2009, 07:36 AM
I guess it goes on a rotation basis but with SC coming in the biggest joke in America a.k.a the KHSAA should let SC be the host since they are the ones that screwed SCHS. Marvin Moore, who is even a bigger joke, was quoted as saying the move was done in the best interest of the 15th region concerning the sitaution that now exists in the region. SC would be best to get out of the KHSAA and have someone turn it into a private prep school like Oak Hill.irateSho

Am I understanding this correct? Lawrence was the last team added to the 57 district. Why weren't they moved? So this means all sports at SCHS will now be in the 60th district.
04-15-2009, 06:52 PM
Why is SC so mad about being moved?
KHSAA moved SC because of geography, Lawrence is simply too far for the others to travel.

The superintendent waned out of the 57th, the boys basketball coach wanted out of the 57th and the baseball coach wanted out of the 57th but I am sure that the girls coach didnt want out though.

If this actually happens, this is the smartest (maybe the ONLY smart) thing the KHSAA has done in years. Perhaps now we can get rid of this ridiculous "super district" nonsense and get back to actual district and region basketball like every other district and region in the state do. There's absolutely no sense in having five teams in one district and three teams in another in the same region. Every effort should be made to balance the number of teams per district as much as possible, with the ideal being four four-team districts in each region, period.

Sounds to me like a lot of SC fans upset.Yes LC was last to be in the 57th this time around, but they were in this district years ago and got moved by KHSAA.LC has not held a district tournament in 9 or 10 years,(could be longer)they should hold district 2009/2010 but when they was put back in 57th was told unfair to break rotation so would be 2014 before they could hold tournament. All i am saying is quite whinning and except it LC has whinned about it for years and cant get nothing done. Now if you were a pike county school you could probably go where you want, you can even play youre games at the expo and practice there as well.I have an idea why dont khsaa have a 17th region and put LC PIARIST AND DAVID IN REGION since no one in the 15th wants them and maybe just maybe that will make people happy.YOURES TRULY TIGER FAN PERIOD..........................

Sounds to me like the only ones doing any crying are from SC... IF I was SC I would be happy to get out of the 57th... Now at least they have a chance of winning the district....
As far as being moved to the 57th it was a load of crap.... And now its LC turn to host the 57th and they talked about moving LC back to the 64th and lose another 4 or 5 years on hosting a district tourney is just a load of crap... Its only fair to the kids and the school that they get to have the chance to host the tourney.

Why would you think Sheldon Clark got screwed? Think about it in basketball terms but even more in baseball. They get away from Johnson Central, Lawrence Co., and Paintsville, 3 baseball powerhouses, and now play Phelps, Belfry, and Pike Central. Same for basketball, all three programs in the 60th are down, so why wouldn't they want to leave the loaded 57th?
IMO..Sheldon Clark is thrilled with this move!!!!

They were beat by every team from the 60th this year, and since Belfry got skipped this year with the district tourney , I think they should get it and SC should fall in at the end of the line for hosting since they are new to the district.

The alignment that makes most sense to me is:
57 - Sheldon Clark, Lawrence Co., Johnson Central, Paintsville
58 - Magoffin Co., Prestonsburg, Betsy Layne, Allen Central
59 - Shelby Valley, Pikeville, South Floyd, Jenkins
60 - East Ridge, Pike Central, Belfry, Phelps
This makes sense geographically, and makes four - four team districts. If Piarist has a team, put them in either 58 or 59. I can't believe the KHSAA hasn't thought of this alignment. What is everyone's thoughts on this?

Floyd County won't go for any alignment that breaks up their Floyd County Conference and for whatever reason the others in the region won't push the issue or rather haven't pushed the issue yet.

Who made the decision to skip Belfry from hosting this year? Belfry hosted in '06, Pike Central in '07, and Phelps in '08, so this past year should have been Belfry's again. If anyone has a beef, it is them.
Somehow PC got to host twice out of three years, so they should be the ones to go to the back of the line in the new 60th. Belfry should host in '10, Phelps in '11, Sheldon Clark in '12, and PC in '13. That would be the most fair.
I still can't figure out how Belfry got skipped. At least on the girls' side, it was East Ridge's turn to host from the old 59th.

Incidentally, if this is true I think it was a decision that had to be made. They just couldn't let the 57th go into next year with five teams again, and putting Lawrence back into the 16th region was not feasible since the 15th was already short a team anyway. So someone was going to have to move.
The fact is that the only two teams that could have moved would have been SC and Magoffin. And I would have been fine with moving Magoffin to the 58th and shifting Betsy Layne to one of the Pike Co. districts. But I guess that scenario would have involved TWO teams changing districts, whereas SC going to the 60th only involves one. Maybe that is the reason why this is the direction the KHSAA went in...
Now, how about nabbing an extra team from the 14th region (currently sitting at 17 schools) so we can have four 4-team districts in the 15th. Jenkins, anyone?

Let me ask you this when was the last time your school got to host the tourney.. Well its been close to 7 years now... and if we get moved then we would be skipped over another 4 years.. Now how is that fair to the Kids or the community..... Thats not whine thats facts.

This looks very logical to me. The thing about not wanting to break up the "floyd county whatever they call it" is just archaic... that may have been fine back when everyone traveled by horse & buggy or two-laned roads, but is really something that has outlived its usefulness. I believe that all this "posturing" in the Pike & Floyd County Districts is what has the Region disheveled in the first place... then there's the KHSAA playing right along with them... nothing ever gets done that is truly in the best interests of the kids as far as they are concerned. It's ALWAYS about the almighty $$ and making some fat cat school district happy, who can maybe do something for them somewhere down the road... WUH~HOO education pays.

Well, seeing as how SC couldn't even afford books for all the kids, I hope they can afford the extra fuel to drive to Pike Co. to the games and lose the money from the gates and the concessions since nobody wants to travel from Pike to Martin or vice versa. That makes the closest district game at least an hour drive. IMO this makes no sense. Why would we want to leave, so we get to play teams that are "down", why not play the best so you get better, and coaches not worry about winning "cupcake" games. Is that the example we want to set for our kids. We can't win in our district so lets go to a new one. It just sucks for the girls basketball, because they are finally in position to get back to where they once were. Just MY OPINION.

Here's my realignment scenario if Jenkins came to the 15th. I don't think Ozz will ever let that happen though.
57- Magoffin, LC, JC, Paintsville
58 - Floyd County
59 - SV, Jenkins, East Ridge, Pikeville
60 - Phelps, Belfry, Pike Central, SClark
