Will Cavanaugh Trent be the Head Patriot next season? I hear hes the man for the job.

About as good a chance as John Kitchen, 0% chance!!!!! No coaching experience = no job this year. Now after this year is over, I'm sure it will be open to anyone. Must be a qualified coach or they will give it back to Justin, that is the only 2 choices for this year.

Knott county thinks because they got a decent chance to win region they got to hire a coach like pitino or bob knight to coach them....get over it after this senior class graduates knott will be a mediocre team and wanting amburgey back.pathetic politics in sports!!!!!!

He graduated from Dilce Combs High School in 1994 (I think). I know he was or is still an assistant at PCC. I'm sure someone knows more, this is just what I remember.

Assistant at Letcher.

Trent will be the JV coach at LCC if Steve Banks leaves. He is a good coach he is great with the kids! I personally hope he stays at LCC but I understand if he doesn't .

In case no one realizes it. Letcher hasn't done any better than Knott since Amburgey took over. so why would Knott want to hire someone who has never been a head coach. By the way Holland would never come to Knott to get in that mess. He's too smart. Apparently if Amburgey wasn't loyal to the team or the school he would definitely want out too.

That is a good point, why would knott want to hire an assistant off of a team that they have gotten the best of in the last three years. What coach would come to knott in the mess they have over there now, it would have to be one that nobody else wanted, or someone that just cared about the kids, they should have a good team though.

I hope he stays at LCC he is a good coach and is great with the kids. By the way he has to run what the head coach wants him to run. If he was the head coach Im pretty sure he would coach diffrent than he does as an assistant and probably do real well!!!!

Trent has a lot of potential to be a good head coach.

But he won't be the coach.

I think he will be, he's applied for every open coaching position in the state for the last two years and cant get one so his aunt will get one for him.

I believe that LCC has won the last 2 district titles with less talent that Knott has had on their roster. I believe Trent would do an outstanding job.

Well what kind of resume does Cavaughn Trent have?
1993 - All A State Champions
All A Classic All Tournament Team
Probably one of the best basketball players to ever play in the 14th Region.
6'0 - had about a 40 inch vertical leap. Probably the best pure jump shooter I have ever saw.
He has won all kinds of awards in basketball.
Played College Basketball at Alice Lloyd College, WHEN ALC WAS TOUGH!
Cavanaugh was one the best baseball players to ever play in the region. All Stater. About a 90 mph fastball. Could hit the ball a mile and play any position on the field. Played at Alice Lloyd College and made their Hall of Fame.
Cavanaugh is MORE qualied that Justin Amburgy ever was. He is more well rounded than John Kitchen. He is younger than Al Holland and again was a much better Athlete that Big Al ever was. Probably a lot better Athlete than Allen Hatcher.
Cavanaugh has a very good attitude and is one of my best friends. I feel like he deserves a chance just as much as anyone else does. I could sit on here and say good things about him all day long. Nobody can guarantee VICTORY at Knott Central. They are about in the same boat as Perry, Hazard, LCC, Buckhorn, and maybe a few other teams around here. It takes a lot of LUCK to win the Regional Tournament. A LOT OF LUCK. I think Cavanaugh deserves a chance to coach Knott Central.

Does being a dominant player mean you are a good coach? Usually the answer is NO. The jury is still out on Trent because of the lack of head coaching experience. I think they should have left Amburgey alone. Nobody else is going to want this job after next year anyway. At least Amburgey would probably stick around after the great Stamper and Cox graduated.
04-06-2009, 04:24 PM
As impressive as Cavanaugh's "resume" looks, I still don't see anything that mentions his coaching experience. I'm not saying that he would not do a great job, but what I am saying is that being a great player and athlete does even come close to being in the same ballpark with guys like Holland and Hatcher when it comes to coaching. No offense to Cavanaugh, but I am sure that he would even admit that. One thing I will say is that whomever gets the job next year will be out the door if they don't deliver a regional title.

It was JV!!!!!!! Any players that are any good are up on the varsity teams. And it's not like it was a Regional tourney, it was the 53rd District, enough said!:HitWall:

Good lord people. This is just High School basketball. Cavanaugh Trent can do a great job at Knott Central or anywhere else. He knows enough about the game to beat Hatcher or Holland. You got to start somewhere. Who in the **** wants to start out coaching at Riverside Christian, Buckhorn, or some small little rinky dink school? John Noble started with nothing and now has a great team at Buckhorn. Amburgy has been a yo yo at Cordia and Knott Central. What kind of experience did Amburgy have? Coaching Cordia? WOW. Has Hatcher and Holland coached in the NBA or the University of Kentucky? NO. THIS IS JUST HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL PEOPLE. GIVE TRENT THE JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The worst thing that can happen, is that he may lose to LCC in the district or Perry or Hazard in the Region. Its happened many times before so its no big deal right? And Stamper and Cox are not any better than the best players at PCC, Hazard, or Buckhorn.
04-06-2009, 05:23 PM
Not who I heard, but I did hear he would be on the staff along with 7 other coaches.

:lmao: ..are you serious?..JV is something to build off of and look forward to but i mean Perry Centrals JV had been undefeated for 2 years before hatchers 1st year and what happened?..we were'nt worth a dime

This maybe the dumbest post ever on rivals. What does playing and espicially playing baseball have to do with coaching basketball? He had a 40" vertical, well im sold give him the job....he might have been a better baseball player than coach cal...give him uk's job......he might deserve a chance, but does he have to get his aunt to get it for him?? Not quite as dumb as you thinking that Cavanaugh has an aunt in a position to give him a job anywhere. Get your facts straight.
I agree that the best athletes are not usually gifted with the most knowledge, however, Trent is the exception. His coaching resume speaks for itself. He has been a great asset to some of the region's best for many years. He possesses the rare ability of being able to connect with each and everyone of his players, which is essential in being able to succeed. His knowledge of the game is exceptional and his likability would enable him to surround himself with a great staff. Trent will make a great head coach and will build a program wherever he goes. The guy is a proven winner. Unfortunately, because his in-law (not aunt) is Superintendent, the ridiculous jealously is going to cause Knott Central to miss out on a great opportunity. Hopefully Amburgey is back at the helm next year to satisfy the Patriot faithful with another end of the year choke-job.
I remember a guy who was an assistant a few years at the mighty Horn (and they were mighty at the time, some of you from Knott should know that), then was given his chance with the Navajos. Nine regional titles and a few hundred wins later, he has made the best of that chance.
04-07-2009, 02:03 AM
Proven winner? At what?
