who gets in

Holmes returns virtually their WHOLE starting lineup so they will be up there vying for #1. Scott County is relatively young as well so they will be up there too.

what about Shelby Valley....... because they return some good talent

4. Shelby Valley
5. Jeffersontown
I know I missed a few that could be in top 5, but I am just throwing the ones I know who have a really good team out for discussion.

SV returns: Elisha Justice, Ashley Hatfield, Taylor Newsome, Tyler Newsome, Cody Varney and some more players who will have to step up. I def. see them as a pre-season top 10 team. SV will starts 5 Seniors next year, talk about an experienced ball club.

Though I don't know SV from seeing them, I know the other four will be there. This is a great list and one that I agree with completely. The top three could all flip/flop. GRC is the team to beat in 2012 as well.

Scott County and Holmes will be tough.
Valley won't be Top 10, due to lack of size. Elisha is Tough, Hatfield is good, Taylor is alittle above average. The rest are average HS players.

Very true and Recniz, since you bash his thought of top 5, lets see your all mighty list!!

though Justice seams to be a great person, Mr. Basketball ? He and the Whole Valley team will have to step up bigtime. Justice is a great player not just good, but great for around here. But he will have to step it up to a very high top of the ladder step. For a kid from the hill's to be noticed he'll have to stand out in a very big groud make some major noise still stand out. Break some records like most points in a season, most points in a game, most steals in a season or game. He have to raise his and his teams average on the field or free throws. I don't think a person can be Mr. B. with a low shooting or free throw percentage. You can't be if your team is no good neither. So he needs to step it up big time and take his team allong with him.But one thing he's got is support from family, friends and community.

It will be interesting to see how SV adapts without the two bigs. Taylor is more than adequate in the middle but the real question is who will play the 4 spot. Hatfield played his natural position this year at the 3 spot. I think the biggest surprise next year will be Tyler Newsome. He can play inside or out. Look for him to put up some very good numbers. The bench will a big question mark. The Roberts boys plus Robinson and Lucas are all guards ans there will not be many minutes available at those positions. I heard from a pretty good source that the Johnson kid that played at Virgie last year is moving back.... and he has grown to 6'4. If this is true look for SV to be much stronger than most think because he would be willing to play the 4.

I'm not going to put a top 5 or top 10 list because I don't know that I know of that many teams. But...I know Holmes loses only 1 starter and maybe 2 or 3 other players off the bench, so they would have to be the pre-season #1. Other than that, Warren Central returns a lot as well. Scott County and Clark County will be good. Shelby Valley should be considered for the top 10, but the only thing that concerns me about Valley is that they lose BOTH centers in Tackett and Adams. They return a boat load of guard/forward play, but what will they do at center? I'm sure Coach Booher will work things out. They should be in contention again next season.

Knott Central has shown nothing to be the #1 team to start the season next year as they didn't even make the State Tournament this year so this one is out for sure. I'm also sure they don't return as much talent as Holmes does next year.

Shelby Valley is not a Top 10 team in state next pre-season. Top 25?, yes.
They wont be as strong, but will still get around 20 wins or so..

I disagree.
They return majority of the scoring, but they did lose their two biggest players, but then again neither played very well at the state tournament. Valley returns their leading scorer, best 3-point shooter, their 6th man, and leading rebounder. As long as Booher can get some solid minutes out of the bench then they'll be alright. I don't expect them to contend for a championship, but no one expected Central to compete for one either.
They still be a top 10 team next season.

They also lose Logan Bryant, who never ever got any credit for what he done. They have NO bench!, You said it yourself in your post. Top 10 teams contend for a state title, unless your from central kentucky, when you can have two or three top 10 teams in your region at any time.
Varney can't shoot by any means, but does hustle, tends to get excited. Hatfield played below expectations this year. Tyler is decent, but not above average. Taylor will be a force next year, IMO.

When I say, won't contend for a state championship, I mean look at the two teams atop the people's top 10's. Holmes & Scott County both are loaded with future college players, as Valley like all the other school's below the two power houses will be looking up.
Like I stated above, Central was not even expected to make it to the sweet 16 by some people let alone be in the state championship game and take #1 Holmes to 2 overtimes. Valley may have a chance, but I don't think they could defeat either of the two heavy-weights.

Maybe because Central has such a good football program and are like p-burg used to be. Get their chemistry and legs late in the season. Knott Central returns quite a bit and they did beat Valley this year without Justice. KCC could be a Top 15-20 team.

I've seen Highlands twice now. After all the teams got their football players back last fall, HHS lost every game that they were supposed to lose to. They got handled rather easily down the stretch by Holmes, Boone Co. & Newport Catholic. I don't see HHS being one of the states top teams. Granted, they return their three top scorers, but they are small. They do not have the size to compete against any of the top teams in the state.
Mason Co, though they are an annual top team in the state, may lose too much this year. With Middleton's graduation, they lose their leader. Pawsatt is hands down the best returning player, but there is already talk that his Basketball days are over. The kid is a potential D1 football quarterback, who most likely will be attending passing camps during the winter next year.

I don't know if they'll be top 10 or not, but they'll win 20 games easily. W/o knowing the schedule for next season, I'd guess they'll win around 26 or 27 games. They lose a lot, but also return a whole lot and I can imagine Elisha will improve quite a bit again this offseason, not to mention several others. Taylor is really underrated, but will get some recognition this coming season.
