Do you work out?

ImagineThat! Wrote:Man, that stinks! I hate to hear that. Those are the two best total body lifts that you can do and were personally my favorites.

They're also the two most injury prone lifts, and I think unless you are playing a sport you shouldn't put much effort into either of the lifts.

They have the most injuries because of people not learning the proper technique. I cringe when I go into a high school weight room and see kids performing squats and deadlifts (usually incorrectly).

I'm not saying that someone that is lifting for general fitness should be trying to squat a house or pick up a car, but I do think the lifts should not be totally abandoned. They are very functional lifts.

When I did squat I always had one or two guys with me and always made sure I had a guy I called coach make sure the squat was a good one. Coach, was a man who was into lifting and was very good on making sure you did things the right way.

If you are really wanting to put on size and get power the squat deadlift and bench are the best. These three lifts will pack on size, while others like curls, skullcrushers, and shoulder press just finish everything off.

man, that's impressive! I can max 305 on the flat bench and the most I can manage 225 is 15-16 times at my very best.

I'm just getting back into it and to be honest these numbers are sad compared to what I was doing before I took off for three months or so.

I am 45 so it is going to take some time to get it back.

Though I do say thanks for the kind words.

where do you work out?
because there is a weightlifting competiton coming up in pikeville sometime and those numbers would win 199 and up weight class for sure.

In Ohio. Usually at the Lifestyle fitness in Reynoldsburg or here at home.

Look at the vidoe on this thread. That's about how we do them here when we are doing reps.

When we are do a max we go all the way down touch the chest then go all the way up, a full lock out.

I lift 6 days a week. I have a powerlifting meet coming up. Before I went to Iraq i had a 1600lb total. I'm hoping to match that again this time.

No. Bench is the lift that has the most injuries. Probally due to more people benching but still its number one in the injury department. I would say squating and deadlifting has alot of benifits for people not playing sports. Big compound movements like these help raise your bodies natural testosterone production which is benificial for putting on muscle mass and reducing body fat. They also develop more functional strength. Meaning they translate into real world strength. The secret is to use proper form and leave your ego at the door.

What weight class were you in? What were your lift totals? What federation did you lift in?

That's a pretty good total...best of luck in your upcoming meet.

Not much of a workout nut. Try to eat right.
#48
If you consider, reaching for a chip in the bag, bringing the chip to my mouth, and doing that many times a day, then yes I work out.

I lift in USPF and NASA. I compete both at 220 and 198. I did the 1600 at 220. Did 525 on the squat. 475 bench. 600lbs on the deadlift. That was at a USPF meet. That was also single ply. Raw i have hit the same numbers on squat and deadlift but have only record 425 raw with a pause in compitition. Right now i'm only 210lbs and i'm hitting 455 touch and go on bench raw.

That's impressive! I competed in a NASA meet about 12 years ago @ 182lbs. (first and only meet, 22 yrs old) and had a total of something like 1405 lbs. (545 squat, 335 bench, 525 squat), but 545 was my opener on squat. I was wanting to set the American Record for squat of 585lbs that I hit for a double 2-3 weeks prior.

Those are great numbers. My bench is a little disproportionate. I even train it less. My squat and dead used to be diproportionate but when i joined the army and began running more they kind hit a sticking point but my bench kept going up. I very seldom hit personal best in compitition.

I used to workout some with Gilbert during the summers. I had a 500lb deadlift and a 365 bench in high schooland i thought i was strong. When i walked into the community center down there and seen three or four guys in high school hitting over 400 on bench i was amazed.
