Mason County vs. Shelby Valley (1st Round Sweet 16)
#1
What does everyone think?

Valley took down Elliott, who took down Mason, logically you pick Valley.

I'll take Valley by 4.

Mod: Add a poll, I forgot to.

So Mason already won their Region, I though they Mason and Clark didnt play until later tonight?

#3

I'd love to hear some details about the Royals from someone who has seen them play more than once this season.

From my understanding they like to press and they are led by Russ Middleton and the sophomore Setty. Correct?
#7
I'll say Shelby Valley by 5. I think they will be ready for this game. Good luck at Rupp Valley!
#8
Setty will be a tough matchup for Valley, it will be intriguing to see what they throw at him.

I agree, he is a potential D-1 recruit, but I'd say that Booher continues to press and set the defense into a matchup 2-3 with Hatfield on Setty.

I hope that Booher has his guys working at the free throw line.
#10
Hatfield might be a good decision as Setty is a pretty tall kid, correct?

Yeah, I'd say he is 6'5, give or take an inch.
#12
Hatfield is going to have to step up and put some points on the board at Rupp. I was surprised that he never even scored last night against LC.

Had double digits in rebounds though didn't he?

Although he didn't score, he was a monster on the boards. But yeah, he needs to put up atleast 10 a game because Justice cannot continue to score nearly half of Valley's points each game.
#15
oh my bad, I though they did play until like 8 tonight. But Congrats to mason.
#16
I think Shelby Valley will come out firing on offense. It'll be great to watch them play Mason Co in the first round. Exciting, and can't wait to be there!
#17
This might be the best 1st rd game i'll take Valley in a great game.

Exactly, whenever you have Hatfield and Justice in double digits Valley is hard to beat.

It'll be a dandy, both teams love to run that press defense.

Nothing meant towards Setty he is good but I would be more concerned with Middleton.

Isn't he a guard? If so I'm just fine, we have Elisha.

I'll take Valley by 4.

Logically??? Give me a break! Mason Co actually plays good competition and throughout the year has only improved. This will be NO contest. Mason will win with ease by 10. LOGICALLY!

Zulu, your predictions are meaningless on this site.

This will be a very entertaining first-round game. I hope to be in attendance for it. I agree with those that say Hatfield has to step his game up. He needs to rebound like he did against Lawrence County, but also put the ball in the basket and draw some fouls on the Mason County big's. Deven Adams needs to step it up as well and be a force in the paint (especially on defense) that we all know he can be.

The gameplan that the Royals use will probably be similar to most every other team's gameplan, slow down Elisha Justice. I think that MC can and will do that but I don't think it will be enough.

I predict that the Wildcats of Valley come out on top in a close one by 6.

Good luck to both teams!
#26
Valley by 7...JMO but Justice will have a huge game
#27
This Game Will Go Either Way
Middelton Will Give Valley Fits..6'4 Guard To Big For King Elisha!
Either Team By 7
#28
I would like to think Mason County's defense will be the difference and even though Shelby Valley played in a national tournament in Florida, they haven't played near the competition that the Royals have.

Last year was last year, but several Royals have invaluable experience playing at Rupp in that environment.

Either way, it should be a really good game and if Elliott takes care of business in their game against Anderson, it sets up a fun friday night.

Either Elliott/Mason part 4 or Shelby/Elliott part 2. On a side note, I was flipping through a Sweet 16 program and noticed that this will be Shelby's 5th trip to Rupp and they have yet to win a game.

So what better way than to win your first game at Rupp than to knock off the defending champs. Not that I want to see it happen, but that would be rather historic.

This is just a hunch Ohearn is a good coach and is probably hoping Justice will be on him. Then Middelton will post EJ up and score 30+ and Mason will advance. SV better have another answer for Middelton.

this will be a great close game..
i'm honestly undecided on the outcome, it could go either way
rupp is like a home away from home for mason co.
they have alot of experience at this level
but i'm hoping valley will pull through with a win
