Agreed. Ever since their loss to Boone Co., they have played no better than average basketball.

Holmes regroups, holds off Ryle

The last time the Holmes boys' basketball team stepped on the floor at the Bank of Kentucky Center, it put on an offensive clinic en route to an impressive victory over Scott County, the state's top-ranked team in the preseason.
It was a performance that vaulted the Bulldogs to the top of the state polls and into national rankings.
Thursday night, in their first return trip to the arena for a Ninth Region tournament first-round game, the Bulldogs picked up where they left off. This time, however, their hot-shooting subsided and the Bulldogs were forced to grind out a 41-34 victory over Ryle.
Holmes opened the game on a 14-2 run that included four 3-pointers in the first five minutes.
"We were just moving the ball, getting our teammates involved and getting open shots," said Holmes senior Dominique Johnson. "That's it. That's the whole game.
"... But we got relaxed. That's our weakness right there: relaxing when we get a lead. We've got to work on that."
After the Bulldogs opened a 12-point lead at the 3:22 mark of the first quarter, Ryle coach Alan Mullins called a timeout.
"We didn't expect that, but we were prepared for it," Mullins said. "... We knew we'd be OK with our defense. We just had to step our pressure up a little bit. And once we settled in and got some offensive stuff going, we were fine."
Ryle battled back to tie the score at 19-19 on an Andy Ahern 3-pointer with 1:41 to play in the first half. Holmes then gained a one-point halftime lead on an Elijah Pittman free throw.
Pittman said the shot gave the Bulldogs a little momentum heading into halftime, but that Holmes coach David Henley gave them an added boost in the locker room.
"At halftime he told us if we didn't step it up we were going home," Pittman said. "That's all he had to say.
"I was just ready to come out and go."
Pittman single-handedly put Holmes in control, scoring five unanswered points to close the third quarter. His final basket of the rally, a two-hand follow dunk with seven seconds remaining on the clock gave the Bulldogs a 32-27 lead heading into the fourth quarter.......

I knew Ryle was good at all positions but had no clue they could play with one of the best teams in the state.
