He took a team that lost two starters and was one of the best in the state, he gained an ineligible player in Howard, they played the old type JBS schedule, he went out in the first round of the district, they never got a signature win agasint a top team, he got nothing out of the biggest player in eastern kentucky, he got nothing out of one of the better shooters in east ky, they played no defense at all, sounds like a coach of the year to me. Should be Hatcher got alot out of mediocre players, Noble, or Amburgey, I dont think Holland should get it this year, they lost one player that never played from last years team and they are not as good this season after being ranked preseason top 10.
Just an opinion, He won 18 games this year.As you said lost two starters (Clark Stepp and Trey Short) not two that is easy to replace. He made to the all "A" Championship game. Lost to PCC by 1 without Garrison. I thought he did pretty good, How many wins did Hollan,Noble, and Hatcher have their 1st year as a head coach?

This is true, if POY was selected from all grade levels, Tate should have it hands down.

I think my points are better, played a weak schedule, should have won more than 18. All A was weak and they never competed in finals, would have beat PCC for their only big win of the year but had called all his timeouts and didnt have any for the 4th quarter. He did an ok job, but there were much better coaching jobs done across the region.

you sound a little jealous to me! lol, well in Cook's defense you took over the most controversal program in eastern ky, in the past two years, a program that might not have a team, a team that lost more than two starters, two great ball players in tate cox and clark stepp and all the seniors and talent they lost and was never used. They lost 75 percent of last years team scoring and he found a way to be competive and be one of the most dangerous teams in the region, his bench looked pretty thin so im going to say imagine practicing with 8 players all year and trying to get things accomplished! the programlast year almost fell apart, and the kids split up! Somehow he came up with a team! Dont know Cook real well but i think he done all he could do, and to win 18-10 as first year head coach, what if he had all the players if they wouldnt have left, then when we might have saw something special! HE SHOULD BE PROUD

Masterpiece, what rock have you been hid under this 14 th region basketball season??? Let me correct you on your post, if I may, Yes JBS lost two starters from last year's team in Short and Stepp, but how can you leave out the fact of the lost of Tate Cox transfer to KCC, a player of the caliber, that most have picked as player of the year, Zack Davis , transferred to KCC, and IMO would have at times been in the running for Freshman player of the year, plus two other freshman that play on KCC varsity. (This all happened before Coach Cook took the job at JBS.) Played in three tournaments, went to the finals in two ( runnerup in the 14th Region all A) and for your signature win was beating Johnson Central by 16 on their home floor , a team that beat one of the favorites in the WYMT Tourn. As for player of the year I will let the facts speak for their self, Brent Hall had 21 DOUBLE-DOUBLE games finishing with 15.5 rebs pg./ 16.9 ppg., Leading the state in rebounding and top 20 in field goal percentage .

WOW beat Johnson Central, thats real impressive....haha. What did he get out of a 6'10" boy? Nothing, What did he get out of Stepp? Nothing, I mean come on he did ok he has alot to learn, KCC and HAzard tuned them up, Knott County could have beat them 40. PCC just looked over them, they LOST in the 1st round of the district. The two tournament they played in were jokes, Country music HWY and ALL A and HHS was never challenged. Come on guys be real, maybe in the coming years he will do ok. Dont forget he should of had the best frontcourt in the region. Facts are facts!

Josh Cook deserves a medal just for taking over that basketball program with the mess it was in by the end of the school year last year.

As the last few post says, makes it even more reasons why I think Cook is the Coach of the year. 1st year coaching wins 18 games, All "A" runners up, took over the program when it was in a mess of all the transfers going on and the stuff at the school, lost Stepp and Short to graudation, lost the best player in region this year (Cox), only 8 or 9 players playing so he dont have a bench like others school like PCC,KCC,LCC. He might not win COY but imo he is.

i actually think he did have the best frontcourt in the region, he got everything out of hall, and collins was playing best ball of his life at times of the year! First of the year i saw collins hitting fifteen foot jumpers, he must have learnt that somewhere. Collins was playing really good in all-a and was playing aggressive until he broke his arm, had to be a pretty big setback! So i think Cook got the frontcourt to play, and that didnt seem to be a problem.

Did you forget that it was Johnson Central that beat Letcher Central out of the WYMT. Seems like a pretty win for JC. Coach Cook and his team beat 3 of the WYMT Mt. Top Teams, Johnson Central, Lawrence Co. and Buckhorn. As for the 6'10" boy check to see the nominees to the Ky Mcdonalds All American list and Collins stats. As for best front court in the region let the stats speak for their self. if you are able to take the time to check them.

Coach of the year, Josh Cook edges out Hatcher only because of what each had to work with.
Player of the year, Hands down, Brent Hall from JBS. Meat and taters of the team. Leading rebounder in the state. Try doing that sometime. He post sixteen double-doubles, try doing that sometime. He's my first pick on the seniors. And he's a true senior.

People must not read the previous post before posting, because I have saw it about 4 or 5 times that says that the POY has to be a senior. Yet people still say Cox and Whitaker. They are juniors. That post will be debated next year.

If it has to go to a senior, it will come down to 3 players. Maggard PCC, Banks-LCC, Hall-JBS. If not then Cox should get it. As far as coaches goes. I think it should be a tie like last year with the same coaches. Coach Holland and Coach Hatcher.

i think honeycutt is the best coach in the3 14 region because he is a outstanding guy and he loves the game and is very expierenced in the game he knows alot.. plus his great help on the bench jerry stacy and joe melton they know about basktball and love the game

Well for a team that wasn't even supposed to win one game did. This man has put JHS forward and in a few years they will be s very good team.

No disrespect intened to Jenkins, I just dont think a Coach that wins 2 games is going to win Coach of the year. You and me both know that.
