Will either of these players be back before district/region play?

Sorry to hear that about these two young men. When are they expected back?

Without them, will be tough to beat Lee. Will anyone else be out due to the brawl at Breathitt on saturday?? Just wondering did anyone get ejected? Don't see how they wouldn't with all the punches and wrestling that was going on. I heard both teams should of been playing 3 on 3 for the rest of the game, that is totally ridiculous.

Estill has so many talented players that they can match up with Lee very evenly without the two injured players, (plus Lee still has to get past Powell....never take anything for granted) however, I just wanted to say Good Luck to the 'Neers as they finish out their season.

My thoughts are with the injured players and I hope they are okay and are back on the court soon!

Crowe and another player were ejected from Estill. (Roberts was not ejected btw) JC also had two ejections.

Surely you are not saying that he should have been ejected when he was suckerpunched and sent to the hospital. This young man has a concussion and a fracture in his face, and will likely be affected by this for the rest of his life. Seems like all some people are worried about is who got ejected and who will be playing in the district tourney.....cant hardly wrap my mind around that!

I'm coming from a totally different perspective than where you apparently think I am. I was just stating that of the Estill players ejected, that Kenton Roberts was NOT one of them. Crowe and....Covey (I think) were the ones ejected.

The officials didn't see anything that warranted Roberts ejection (and neither did I). I wish him the best and hope that he is 100% able to play in the district games. I think that he is a great kid and wish him the best!

I just want to say that I am proud of all of the fans, coaches and players at Estill. They really acted like a Family Saturday night. With no help from officiating, law enforcement, or opposing coaches - the group managed to get a potentially deadly situation back under a resemblance of control. In addition, we want to thank the Lee co. team and fans as well all the other friends of the program for their support. Kenton has a concussion and Fractures of the Sinus cavities. Without going back into any details, I want to assure EVERYONE that Kenton did nothing to warrant such vicious actions, and that the players, fans, and coaches actions were purely of a protective nature for their downed players. While the Basketball Season will continue - it will not be the same nor will it ever be the same for this group.

I think you need to re-think the comment about the opposing coaches. The JC coaches did just as much as the Estill County coaches to get things stopped. You are basing a whole team of players on one incident from one player and that is not fair to the rest of the players that are on that team. The last time I heard, there was as many Estill County players tossed out of the game as there was JC players. So, there must have been a legit reason for 2 of them to be thrown out as well.

Understood....thanks for your support.

There was a legit reason for the one that tackled the player although he was protecting an unconcious player. I applaud his loyalty but was still wrong by the rules. However the second player was chosen to make the sides even and be fair to both teams, so he was ejected for leaving the bench area. I only blame the Johnson Central players that were hitting the downed players (there were six that were kicking and hitting players on the floor covering up) not the whole team. I know things like this Happen, but the one action that is deplorable is hitting the player that was walking away - the hit was so vicious he could have been permanently injured or killed.

If a Johnson Central player punched another, regardless of the slapping, poking, or pushing involved, he and his whole team are at fault. They should have immediately pulled him away and gotten Welch away from the situation. Instead, they hit and kick a downed Kenton Roberts. Yes, Express' judgment on Johnson Central is accurate. Granted, Estill was wrong in allowing Crowed to retaliate. But, their bench did not get involved. Crowe was simply a one-man wrecking crew, on a mission to get revenge for Roberts. He was wrong, but he was just one man. And from what I understand, Estill even tried to break him off of Welch. Too bad Johnson Central did not have the same "courtesy."

:argue: If Crowe was the only that retaliated then he would have been the only one ejected by the officials. You need to take your blue colored glasses off. Estill would definately do some good by taping your games. Your opinions don't mean anything without the proper documentation to back it up. Estill County did leave their bench and their coaching staff did not do anything more than the JC coaching staff to stop the problem. In fact, didn't the coach of Estill County argue with a fan of Johnson Central to the point that he had to be restrained. Let me answer that for you, he did.

You are so full of it...If 1 of the boys from estill was ejected for leaving the bench, dont you think the six players you claimed was hitting your player would also be ejected for leaving the bench? get real

Hmmmm ready my posts about officiating and you should find out why more than just Crowe got ejected. And as for documentation, every neutral opinion I've read on here puts little to no blame on Estill County provoking anything. If that is the case, they were simply acting in self-defense. Therefore any of their actions would instantly be legitimized. And by legitimized I mean in the legal sense....

Your judgement on JC couldn't be further from the truth.

How many times must I say this? No matter how much "dirty" play was involved, no matter how many times Kenton may have poked, shoved, pinched, etc. Welch or Johnson Central teammates, Welch should not have sucker punched him. Show some restraint, deny yourself such a disgraceful punch to someone who wasn't looking. Get over the "dirty" play and play the game of basketball. Johnson Central did not do that. I don't care if Estill had fault of not. They probably did. I just want to point out nothing, I repeat NOTHING Estill could have possibly done issued this type of response.

Estill doesn't play Lee they play Owsley.. Let's take this one game at a time.:Cheerlead

I know from experience estill does play dirty and likes to talk. I agree the punch was uncalled for but you push a young man enough they eventually fight push back, I agree with many post that the officials let it get out of hand all around.

I was thinking the same thing. Better not get the cart in front of the horse. Owsley has been known to pull some district shockers in the past 3 or 4 years. They upset Lee 2 years ago in the tournament. And it took a last second Estill 3 pointer to beat the Owls in the district last year.

The fan he argued with committed a felony by running out on the court and attempting to attack him. She was lucky that an argument was all it was.

I have a question for all who think they have the right to name who is to blame? What if your kid was Ian Welch and you watched him getting pushed around all day and then to beat it all he got hit in the face. Now honestly ho would you react. everyone would be best served by no one sueing anyone and staying away from each other. And to the Estill County Coaching Staff member who slapped Ian try acting like a man and not hitting a high school student.
#25
well if Ian Welch was a student at Estill Co he would not be on the basketball team our coach does not putt up with the way he does this is not the frist time he has been kicked out of a game Estill Co has a class prograhm and class coaches. We will see who is wrong after the court gets this case.

Getting pushed around is part 0f the game. This in no way gives any player the right to viciously attack another. This is an unfortunate issue for all those that are involved. Let the process of reviewing tape as a deciding factor.

From the film I watched today. Roberts clearly smacked Welch and Welch Retaliated.

Ian Welch is an adult. His actions spoke volumes of his character. Now he will face the music for his actions as an adult.
#29
How is the young man doing that was hurt from estill? Update on his condition
#30
he has sinus cavity damage and may need to have it repaired. The medical bills will be large. Also a possible fractured cheekbone. Otherwise he is feeling fine. He may sidelined for awile. Kenton is from another school than I but he is one of the finest young men to ever come from this area. I am so sorry that a classy young man like Kenton has to go through this.
