i saw it. i thought it was a great movie and people should watch it and rethink their postions on gay people. because if you claim to believe in god you should accept that he makes gay people also not just straight people. homosexuals don't just up and choose that they want to like the same sex it comes out at an early age. but as far as the religious aspect of it. i'm not religious so that doesn't stop me from supporting them. it was sad that bobby had to resort to kill himself because nobody would accept him. and also sadder that he was condemned at his funeral. Rest in peace Bobby Griffith

Do you believe that as a result of basic genetics, basic passed on DNA, that people can be more predisposed toward certain traits or vulnerability to disease? Or that these things are always a choice?

I'm tired of the argument you're born a certain way. No one except for handicapped or mentally challenged people are born any certain way. You are what you make you make of yourself. There is nothing wrong with gay people except they choose to have sex with people of the same gender. It's a choice they make. People say they see it come out as a young age, all they see is how that kid is probably being babied by his mom, and most of the time they have older sisters who feminize the poor kid. So that is his upbringing and the family has no one to blame bu tthemselves.

It is a choice just as choosing what to do when you get mad at someone. I could smack them in the mouth or I could just walk away. It would be a tough choice but I know in my heart that walking away would be the best for both parties. I could take a hammer and beat my computer up but that would cost me some serious money...I choose not to do that. Some choices are harder than others. You have to weigh your options and make a healthy, sane "choice".

And how do YOU know this??? Since you're supposedly not gay, how would YOU know that you're not born gay??? I can't decide to whether to feel sorry for you or just laugh.

What would make you think that the reasoning of others is wrong. I respect your opinion, but my opinion is that it is a choice. I've never reserached the subject, so I have no knowledge, but I am sure there is no scientific proof that you are born gay.

How can "being born gay" be biological gene? As a child develops, their tendencies are created. As they grow older, the act on those unknown tendencies.

If being born gay is a real fact. Then, are you born a Pedophile? Are you born a rapist? Are you born an alcoholic?

As I asked the same question of cheerdad, and I ask this of all seriousness and not condecending, but if you are born Gay, then are you born a pedophile?

It's an argument that has been lost in the court of law. Pedophiles have used a very similar argument in courtcased for severl years, and they have referred it to being born as a hetorosexual and a homosexual. Pedophiles claim they cannot help themselves because they have a genetic disorder. I beg to differ.

Our traits come from our genes and i think if you don't think being gay has something to do with genetics. Does Being Straight Have Anything To Do With Your Genetics?. you can't reasonably say that our orientation has nothing to do with our genetics

These people go out and actually hurt people, mentally and physically, being gay hurts no one.

I had a good friend of mine that is an alcoholic and went to several of his recovery classes at Charter, and statistics show, (can't remember the exact number) but your chances of being an alcoholic is way up there. His father was an alcoholic. And yes, there is scientific proof that people are born gay.

Stardust...throughout this discussion, his opinions have borderlined upon hatred. I didn't get up and walk away from his post and then come back like I usually do and I regret that...I went and tried to delete my posts this morning, but can't figure out how.

As sad as it was, it is so true. This movie is based on a true story. I just wish and pray that people will one day realize that our God is a AWESOME GOD and to see that homosexuality is as much of His creation as heterosexuality and stop trying to compare to to such hainous CRIMES to someone being a rapist, murderer, pedophile, etc. That's just sooooooo NOT right.

That is bull. The reason your chances of becoming an alcoholic are up is because it is everywhere you turn. People try to drown their troubles with alcohol instead of facing reality. Dr's don't want to help people they want to medicate people. People back way back when had lots of troubles too but they handled them differenly. We have turned into a bunch of liberal pansys. "Everything" is ok to do now days. That makes me sick.

Genetically, if your father was an alcoholic, you have an increased risk of being an alcoholic. If your mother had an eating disorder as a teenager, you too have increased risk of having an eating disorder.

I don't think that sexuality is hereditary. Straight parents have gay children, gay parents have straight children everyday. But I do not think that it is a choice. If it is, then it takes one heck of a person to choose it and live in this world today! If it is a choice then why do those women that in an attempt to satisfy society instead of herself by marrying a man, having children, and living that life for a number of years (40+ in fact) are able to say that they still like women...

I caught most of the movie....It was very sad. I don't agree with the particular lifestyle, but this movie really shows everyone that despite your personal feelings we need to be accepting. I couldn't imagine being in his or his pparents position.

I understand where you are coming from, and by no means am being critical. However, my point was about choice. I will agree to disagree with the point of genetics playing a factor. If there is scientific proof, could you please post a reference, that I would like for my own education.

I am not comparing pedophiles to to alocholoics, pedophiles, murderers from a moral standpoint. I have my own feelings about the morality of it, but that is not for this post. I only used the comparisons as a choice versus genetics.

IMO, it is one's choice to whom they love. I honstly do not beleive that I was born with a gene that led me to the person that I married. I had other choices, but I only chose one. That may be a simplistic thought process, but i still have a hard time accepting that we are genetically wired to have feelings for one sex versus another.
