It teaches discipline to the players. Now he knows if he gets a T he sits for a game, might make him think twice about doing something to draw another one. I still think part of the problem is a few years ago when all Powell fans was bragging about having 13 seniors on the team. That never works out good for the coach that follows that. No underclassmen got experience that year. You are paying for it now. Give the young players time to get some experience and they will be better in a season or two. Sometimes what happens before can cost ou later. But I will bet trying to stir the pot and cause internal strife wont help you out this year.
Arvin has to much talent to set on the bench, yea he got a technical the last game, WHO CARES, I'd be pretty mad if I was getting beat by 50 by Bath County, to.
But geesh you can't set the best big man on the team out the whole game just b/c he got a technical in a previous game. Thats not a good tactic.

Until he learns, let him sit and think about it. Principle over practice.

Do not give up Powell

I would like to know when Powell had 13 seniors on the team. As I recall it was 11 seniors, cutting some of them their senior year after being together all that time would have made people talk about Lively like they do Coach Hall. You cant blame Lively for this. The only players that was on this years team and that previous team was Hawkins and Crowe, and both still had their playing time like they wanted. Last I checked seniors are always supposed to be over sophmores which Crowe and Hawkins were not. I think Lively did the right thing. I mean even if he had of cut some of the seniors, Powell would still be in the same situation because both Crowe and Hawkins still have the same negative attitudes as they did when they were sophmores!! Oh, and as for the "talented" players quitting this year, I would rather have heart and desire on my team, then talent and negativity!!!!!!

First off ciach Lively will not be coming back to the sidelines anytime soon he got a big pay increase when he took his new job. 2nd who else do you people think wants that job let me tell you no one wants that job. You people can't be happy with a good coach in any sport. You fired the first coach to take you to the state in 20 years in basketball, then you ran off the best baseball coach in the region for some reason so maybe its not the coaches maybe its the people that have the problems.
I also find it hard to understand how Ken Jones keeps his job year after year he hasn't ever won a region and he has been there forever.

Well it has been 2 seasons since Powell had 11 seniors. What about last year the 5 starters did not play much at all the previous season. But they did fine last year, should have won the District.
But this year on the other hand, 3 of the seniors this year played a big role in last years teams success. And some of the underclassmen. If you ask me I think coach hall had alot of talent when he started here, but as for now after letting 6 talented players walk away from his team, not so much!

And i understand tht, tht is what shud be done, Crime = Punishment, but to an extent, i think Arvin learned his lesson, he needs to play, IMO this team won't win unless he is playing alot and playing good, he should be their go to guy.
Its all good to teach kids a lesson, but come on, lets get "Big Number 2"

You should get number 2 against Riverside if you really want to count that one.

I still say John Wooden, Bob Knight, and Adolph Rupp all combined couldn't have walked into that situation and been successful. If I were Coach Hall I would catch the first bus out of town and let someone else worry with the spoiled players and know-it-all fans and parents in Powell.

The common theme here is the typical quitting attitude of Powell. Give it a break. Sounds like this coach has acted just as a coach should, providing discipline and refusing to let these kid's moms and dads tell him who should play which position. Good for him. Instead of everyone quitting and chasing him with torches and pitchforks, why not stand behind him, work hard, earn his respect and offer suggestions. It takes a team to win but when half the team quits because they get mad and don't get superstar attention you will never know what being a winner means. I would bet anything that coach regrets going to Powell far more than any of you.

There is nothing you can do to save Powell now. They have been infected by the worst coach disease. I say just lose the rest of the season, which was gonna happen anyway, then fire Hall and try and get a good coach. One that won't run off 6 players. But good luck....Hall just might run this program into the ground.

Thank you so much for saying this. I don't know who this person thinks they are but they continue to bring themselves down to the level of those that quit on this team. I get so sick of hearing people complain about a coach in their first season. The guy is doing the best he can with what he has and is getting the best out of these guys. Please do us all a favor and leave Coach Hall and the team alone and stop posting. You have no clue!

I think they should find a new coach, and yes as someone already said I do feel sorry for the seniors...........next year they can rebuild and hopefully keep a solid roster without people leaving and such and just look forward to the future.

I've kinda read through this thread from time to time and not said much. I have no idea about the coach, the players, the fans, or administration. I do know that if a kids heart is in the game a coach can't "run" them off. They will stay and do what ever it takes to play. Now if the kid goes home night after night and mommy and daddy are talking about the coach telling the kid he's a star and not getting treated right and should be getting more playing time......
that's when you start having problems. Just my opinion, take it or leave it.

That says it all. I agree 100% most of the problems usually develope at home when you have parents talking bad about the coach. It sounds to me like this coach walked into a bad situation, and no matter how hard he tries, he will not be able to fix it. Why? Because the parents and some of the players and ppl of Powel Co. are already blaming him. As I have said in the past, every parent wants their child to be the star, but you have to have the talent first. What I saw when KCC played Powel, was very little talent. Now, not to say that they don't have any, but it takes time to bring it out. Give the coach a chance to do that. Everyone talks about the big guy being the best player, but apparently he need some discipline. I don't know the boys names, I'm sorry, but #5 and #11 are two players who put out everyting when we played them along with a few others. I remember those two tho because they just played their hearts out and was up in the bleachers several times. I was afraid they were gonna get hurt. But the fact is, and please this is just my opinion, I think the ball program at Powel was in a state of turmoil from the previous coach. He may have won some games, but he left some bad habits behind. Just give the new guy a chance to change things around. Best of luck.

Get rid of the thuggish, prima-dona attitudes and get the kids that want to be ballplayers not king of campus. Looks to me that Hall has gotten rid of most of the problem kids and they packed thier bad attitudes with them. If they aare so happy in thier new bench roles then Hall done them a favor.

Good post. I agree, and especially with the part I bolded.
Even if Powell decides to not rehire Hall, what coach in their right mind would want to go there after seeing what the fans and players have put Hall through. I think he simply inherited a bad problem, that had several years in the making, and now the blame is coming down on the wrong person.

If a team loses 4 graduating seniors who all started last year, they lose their returning jr point guard in christian brewer, they lose their 2 star players at the begining of the season, at that point you have 3 seniors left and 2 of them didnt play last year, then 2 more seniors quit which leaves you with 1 who has never played a varisty minute untill this year, so you have 4 upperclassmen and the rest are young kids, you start 3 sophomores, and you have 5 guards and they are all sophomore or younger, your parents and fans are turning their back on the team, and you have a new coach with the players learning the new system.... with this happening i cant really see any coach having a winning season. Powell County fans and parents need to start supporting the team instead of getting on here and bashing them. the players are trying to win and if people would look at that instead of pointing fingers at the coach on the side line they might win every once in a while. the student section is dead during games and the only thing you hear coming out of the crowd is critisism...Powell county needs to step up as a whole, and untill that happens the team will never win, idc how many coaches you hire or fire.
