eh well...I am still hurt i actually have surgery thursday...ACL reconstruction and a miniscus transplant to fix my knee. When i quit lifting last october before i got hurt i squatted 455, cleaned 235, and benched 275...so im doin alright. I should be 100% by season and btw I will do and already do what the coaches ask me...and then some...and I will be ready to do my part to get us to Papa John's next season....

i believe every word this kid says cause i plan on being right behind the bench. cussing and hollowering my brains out. i have to say all the players on that hazard team next year have high standards and they will not settle for a 2 or 3rd round playoff. they will and i believe will make it to papa johns and win state next year because of hard work and determination

A Decent Lineman Wrote:Yeah...that Maggard boy is...lol. But our whole offensive line comes back next season with 4 juniors and one senior. Our whole defensive line comes back with 2 seniors and 2 juniors....we should be loaded lineman wise next season. Our 3 strongest would be, in no order our Fullback Austin Blanton, D-lineman Austin Maggard, and Reciever Michael Campbell....but we dont have a starter benching squatting or powercleaning under 200 lbs....so were generally pretty strong...lol
SO you're saying EVERYONE Who starts can powerclean 200lbs? Thats not what Coach Fugate says. He says he'd be lucky to have 3 or four doing that.

I just wanna get healthy so I can play, i am on a laptop laid up in bed, i just had an ACL and miniscus transplant thursday so im a lil sore...lol. But i should be 100 percent by season, im just ready to get going again.....being away from football for the last 5 games of a season and having surgury really puts things in perspective. When i get released i will be putting everything i have out there for my seniors and our team.....6 months and counting!!!

Not one person who starts has one single category under 200 lbs. is what im saying, they might pow. clean under 200 but they still will bench or squat 200+....see what im saying?

I'm up in N. Ky so I don't get to see the mountain linemen on a regular basis, but when I have been able to watch them, they generally are very strong. The only negative is that while they have been ox strong, they are often not the fastest or quickest. Seems that the emphasis of the mountain teams is on big and strong, not fast and quick. That's a generalization that obviously isn't applicable to every linemen or team I admit. But it seems to hurt the mountain schools from time to time when they have to play teams out in the state during the playoffs. Do you know what they call a lineman that's big, strong, quick and fast? A D1 recruit!
Not many of them in any part of the state. Good luck to the mountain teams in 08. I hope to get the opportunity to watch several mountain teams and their linemen play this year.

south floyd will have 2 good freshman next year in aj johnson and dylan hall both should start on defense, and dylan will more than likely start on offense as well

Just so you know, if you do not want to be a Papa John's all by yourself you may want to schedule a bus to WKU . . . 'cause that is where State will be held next year.

Dillion Cornett from Perry Central will be a 3 year starter will be a junior. 6ft7 300lbs plays tackle has real good feet for a big man. I think he is a D1 player. He has two more seasons to get even better.

Keep an eye on Breathitts linemen. They are bad news for other teams.

Ive heard from some people that a few players that played for Breathitt and quit are very seriously thinking about coming back and they would be a huge boost for this team.

I saw this kid one time last year. He's a monster. Didn't know they grew em' that big in east ky and them not play basketball. That's good to see.

I think Bell should have a good line next season. They return almost all thier starters

Cody Marcum and Mike Howard are too of the finest high school lineman in the state. Marcum received S.E.K.C offensive lineman of the year. Howard is a 6'4" 300 lb pulling guard. For a man to be that size and play that postion tells a little about his ablity to get after u.

Howard kid is Bells top lineman, he is the backbone of the team. I have watched this kid play for 3 yrs and he is strong and a beast and when they needed yards they went behind him. I know the awards went to others but I think he is the best and anyone that watched the this kid play would say this. He could have a good future to play college football and I hope he gets the chance,he is that good and he has the size to play anywhere! Very Impressive football player he is.

The names mike howard and cody marcum have been mentioned for the past two years as being the best lineman at bell county, but there is one name that has been left off for the past three years. Joe Collett which was the starting left tackle for the bobcats and has been for the past three years is one of the best at bell county along with howard and marcum. He started as a freshman and has only missed two games in his highschool which were due to a knee injury this year. He is 6'3 240 pounds and is by far the quickest on the line. When i watched bell play he was the only lineman who was capable of reaching linebackers and was the only lineman who pulled outside to block a corner. Also most of the touchdown runs were to either his side, Jacob Kings right tackle spot, or when either one shifted over in a strong formation. From what i heard, he clocked in a 4.9 in the 40. He should make an impact next season.
01-25-2009, 03:40 AM
And by the way, Collett will be back next season, along with howard and marcum. So bell county should have one of the best if not the best lines in the mountains if not the state next year.

Best defensive lineman in the mountains returning is Randen Collett from Leslie Co. (6'1 280 ) Returns off a season where he had:
75 Tackles (42 solos)
21 Tackles for Loss
5 Forced Fumbles
4 Sacks
Wymt All Mountain Defense
Courier-Journal Honorable Mention

I have to disagree with you RTW. We played Leslie this year and our OL handled him with ease. Billy Lawson of Bell has to be on the 1st team pre-season watch. This kids motor doesnt stop and plays the game very aggressively and with an extreme amount of techique.

No offense to Collet from Leslie he is a fine player but when your team gets to play defense all the time you get a bunch of tackles so his stats are skewed.
I agree Lawson will be a 4 year starter on Bell's d-line. Very few kids can say that on a High school team and even less can say that at Bell County.

Marcum, and Howard are very good OL for Bell. Both will be 3 year starters as well as Collett. For Bell to have a shot at repeating these four youngmen will have be the leaders. Collet has lots of potental but must step it up some to be mentioned as 1 of the best in EKY, but he has that ability. All of these kids are great kids and hard workers. All are big but can move to.
Someone mentioned powercleaning 200 lbs? Bell has DB's that do over 275.

I disagree on the skewed tackle reference. After our second scrimmage, He demanded a double team on almost every down. I'm not disrespecting Bell, or any team, but I'm just saying. Bell had a great offensive line. As proof from a state championship. It's hard to play when you're starting 6 freshmen. Collett was the one that put Greer on the sidelines, which he apologized for. Stand-up kid with another year in the weightroom.

The play you are playing to where Collett put Greer out was a good hussel play to Collett's credit. But I can assure you it was not dew to aggression, Collett simply fell onton Greer's ankle and rolled it.

Sorry, right side the strongest and got it done. With Howard, Marcum,King. They opened major holes and anyone could see that in any game.
