What is the most important player position
#1
In my view this would be the point. What does everyone think?

PG

PG by far.

Just look at UK, decent shooters and Stevenson and Patterson but we cant get the ball up the floor.
#5
Most def point guard. If you don't have a good PG, then you won't have someone to run the offense.
#6
PG!!! look at UK

Point guard without a doubt. The point guard is the leader and his play effects the way everyone else plays.

Seems like most everyone agrees. So when we all talk about the "best player" on a team, in a region, etc. , then why do we all list the high scorers as the best? May we should all give credit to those players who possess other really valuable skills!

They are all so important. Any weak link usually hurts...

A case could be make for a dominate low post player, especially if he has the size advantage.

Generally, they still need a good guard to get them the ball. I'm not saying that any one position is more important than another since it is a TEAM sport, but in most cases a post player is at the mercy of the guards. A good point guard is like a good quarterback, he/she gets everyone where they need to be and gets everything set up. A good point guard makes everyone else look better.

For HS basketball, Give me a big kid that dominates the boards. I do agree with most on here that a PG is very important. However, I'll take a big kid that can block some shots, get 8 or 10 on putbacks, and throw an outlet pass! JMO.

No brainer, PG.

I think the center is the most important player because without someone down low...its tough to win games

I would take a dominant center over any other position...

This is a pretty interesting thread, I think if we polled all the HS, College, and Pro coaches, I woudl be hard pressed to believe that they would think any one position is more important than another.

Every coach wants a dominant big man, then when they can't get the ball down the floor to get it to the domimant big man, the coach says, I need a Point Guard to break the press. Then when the PG breaks the press, he can't get it inside because the big man is double teamed. So then, the PG has to cut to the basket and kick it to the 3 who can either slash or hit the 15 foot jumper. But when that is not available, he needs to kick it out to a 2 who can hit the long range jumper. But, we know the best 2's are only going to shoot 45% from the field, so we better have a solid and strong #4 to crash the boards and get the rebound. Yep, as a coach, I think all five of my players are just as important in the job that they do than the other players on the floor. When one weakness is on the floor, the team loses.
