Mr. Football Candidates 2009
#31
The Iceboxx Wrote:The thing about this so called golden triangle.
Since 2004, 17of the 22 state titles have been from Louisville, Lexington or Cov/Newport/Erlanger area.

Russell won one
Belfry won one
Bell won one
Fort Campell won two.

Thats it, so its pretty simple to see the best football is played in Central KY.

Mr. Football is an AP award. The votes are givin by the Newspapers. It has nothing to do with where youre from, Of course a mainstram player in Louisville has the benifit of a large media feed, but so do players from Hazard, Lex, Ashland, Covington, Bowling Green....the funny thing is there papers still voted for Duece Finch this year, because the vote was unanimous.

Mr Football Canidates in order on talent alone next year.

Tim Patterson-LB/TE-Central High School
Austin Collinsworth-DB/WR Fort Thomas Highlands
Jeremiah Neal-RB-St.Xavier High School
Antonio Andrews-QB-Fort Campell High School
Ryan Moses-QB-Williamsburg High School
Tyrell Willis-RB/QB/DE-Calloway Co High School
Miles Simpson-RB-Simon Kenton High School
Channing Fugate-RB/DB-Breahitt County High School
Vincint Bradley-QB Fairdale High School
Jacob Russell-QB-Anderson Co High School

Fans of Breathitt Co, are gonna be objective to everything not in their favor.

but its this simple.....its always hard to compare who beat who, so they would beat who....but.......

Back to Back years a dominating team has came out of the mountains..Belfry and Breathitt didnt just win their way through their playoffs the past seasons but they flat out beat teams to death.

Back to Back years these dominating mountain teams have gotten embarrassed when all the media was on them, at the highest level( i know the belfry game was closer but it should have been a blowout, central played horrible)...anyway.

Back to Back years this state champion central team has gotten roughed up by the elite teams in kentucky.....they only won 5 games in 07'.

That is easy perspective as to where the talent is in the state....but you can never play that game, cause it doesnt always add up, but if it floats your boat

I'd love to see NKY's Simpson take the award.
#34
I will have to disagree with all of you Bruce Bates is gonna win it cause that boy is how do say a all around ball player he might start qb this year for the red devils and boy does he have a arm he also has the legs and height 6 4 he is gonna start corner on the other side of the ball the tallest in the league

Fugate has a lot of potential and an entire nother year to get quicker and much better. By the end of next year he will win Mr Football if he has a year like he did this year. Only 5 runningbacks in KY history have rushed over 3000 yards and he is one of them. The coached that coached Tim Couch said on the radio that Channing was the best white runningback that he has ever saw. When you are that big and that fast, it is hard to bring you down.

And that makes him the best. Stats and what someone says on the radio makes you a Mr. Football.

Nope that dont make him one ,but his size and yds does a whole lot,and winning will do the rest,he is a good mountian back, might not be the fastest, but he will surely run you over and score TD's,so thats reasoning for us mountian people for saying he is our Mr Football man, just hope the Team does well to let him showcase his talents in front of the people all over this state.I say Bobcats will throw the ball more next year with Jade Haddix healing up,that will make a big differance, and with his running ability that should take some pressure off Channing Fugate and make the Bobcats a much better team.
Go Gettem Bobcats..

How so? The game was close up until the last few minutes when Belfry was playing catch up. They even had a chance to make it closer if I remember correctly, but fumbled inside the red zone. Belfry played horrible also. The better team won, but don't make it sound like Belfry shouldn't even been on the field.Rolleyes

There's alot of great teams in Central Ky. But you have to look at the bigger picture. Jefferson county has a population of about 710,000 people while say Pike county has a population of about 66,000 people. Central Ky. has alot larger pool of boys to pick from compared to mountain teams. It is simple, numbers mean alot. The traditional powerhouse schools draw more attention and better athletes, were kids have a greater choice of where to attend school. Continuing there success. When mountain schools play with and compete with larger city schools, that is success in its own right.

My Top 5

1. Tim Patterson- LB Lou. Central: Going to be the most sought after player in the State. Leading tackler the past two years for on of the State's best defenses. Helped team to 3A Title.

2. Austin Collinsworth- WR/DB Highands: Has the pedigree and has the ability to take over a game anytime he's on field. State's best WR, best DB, and best Kick Returner next year. Helped team to 5A Title.

3. Miles Simpson- RB/DB Simon Kenton: Unbelievable season rushing for well over 2000 yards and leading team to 6A State Finals and continued success against excellent competition.

4. Channing Fugate- RB/LB Breathitt County: 3,000 yard rusher and dominating force on offense, playmaker on defense. Led team to State Runner-Up in 3A.

5. Antonio Andrews- QB/DB Ft. Campbell: Unbelievable State Finals performance with 370+ Total Yards and 4 TD's coming from passing, rushing, and receiving. Nearly single handidly led team to 2A State Title.

I think Collinsworth is a great player, but being on Highlands actually will hurt his chances. With all the talent they have, it cuts down on the number of plays he is in on and the number of times he is thrown to. He also will have less numbers then other kids because he usually only plays 2-3 quarters. Did not get to see too much of Simpson last year and looking forward to watching him more this year.

He has a good chance of winning. The kid is a game changer. Very fast, very strong. He can completely take over a game. I've seen him play and was very impressed.

To compare, I have seen Simpson and Fugate in person and I would give the edge to Simpson. I love the way this kid plays.

We people of Eastern Ky wants to see our kids get the best chance that they can ,so we have to brag on them, some.Yes, they will be lots out there thats as good or some that will pop up we never heard about by the end of next season, but right now Channing Fugate is most all the mountains Choice for Mr Football,Go Bobcats.

How many kids from the mountains have won Mr. Football?

Miles Simpson all the way baby!

I'm sorry to say this, but we shouldn't be talking about stuff like this. It's way too early to talk about this and it's unfair to the person listed as #1. For example, look at college football. Pre-rankings had the Georgia Bulldogs as #1. Where were they at the end of the year?
#47
Another 3000 yard season for Fugate and he will win Mr. Football.
#48
being from the mts. my vote is going to Channing Fugate from breathitt co.
#49
Only time will tell. The season will need to get underway and the cream will come to the top. The Mountains are loaded with talent. It will be exciting to watch all of it unfold. I think we need to be careful not to put undue pressure on those mentioned. Just let things take care of themselves.
#50
Think about it. If Channing has another year like he had this year he will be close to the career rushing record. Still thats very impressive.

I'll be rooting for him to. I'm not sure if he can have another season like he did this past season but I sure hope he does.

Jacob Russell is a heck of a football player I went to school with him a few years back.
#53
Channing Fugate
#54
Patterson
#55
Fugate will be the biggest impact as a single player.
