I like your optimism.....but.....I, for one, don't think this team is better than last year's version. Especially at the Defensive Tackle and LB position. It's very difficult to replicate what Dustin May and Philip Hickman brought to the party.....those were two of the very best that have donned the red and white IMO. At the same time....I'm not convinced that Breathitt or Central are appreciably better than last year's version. Breathitt is still undersized up front and I believe our quickness on both sides of the ball will be significant.
As for Central...if Belfry's fortunate enough to win Friday....we can discuss next week.

I think we are about as good as last year's team. I think our overall running game is better and Andrew has been really good. I think what made last year's team so special was that they were so good defensively from the start, and carried that throughout the season. This year's team is just now hitting their stride defensively, as evidenced by their performances the last two weeks. From all reports, I think Breathitt is better this year, but I agree with you Outlaw that their line is where Belfry will have an advantage, and in the end I believe we will be too much up front for them.

I agree that our offense is just as good if not better than last year's version. Elkins and Varney have both added an element of maturity....that due to the lack of experience wasn't present last year. I also think that our defense is playing very well....especially when motivated. However, Hickman and May provided an incredible 1-2 punch with their speed and tenacity to the ball....which has proven difficult to replace. That's certainly not a knock on our current personnel.....they've improved greatly over the past 4 weeks.
If Breathitt is stronger offensively.....IMO, it's simply from maturity....and the stellar play of Fugate. However, defensively....I think they have some shortfalls.

this years pirates are not as good as they were last year with the big prescence from maydo and phillip, and jimbo, and even adam bowens played hard last year... i would rather have them on the field than this years starters but still belfry prevails.

I'm not gonna argue about which team is better, this year's or last. Gotta keep in mind though, that half the guys who started last year are on this year's team, and they've had an extra season of experience, and a long winter with a bitter taste in their mouths. I can tell all of the guys who've returned are showing HUGE amounts of improvement, the line and Thomas of note. And for a team which should have been the champs last year to show that much improvement, well, it speaks volumes to me about their character.
Now, I'm not going to say which team is better, 07 or 08. They've just got some differences. They have one BIG thing in common though: they play as a team, a single unit composed of 11 young men, and they are so much more than the mere sum of their parts, just like they were last year.
Breathitt's only chance is for a flu outbreak on Pond Creek tonight...

Taking this from your post, it could have been written about Breathitt County or Belfry, either one.
We better not underestimate this Bobcat team. They have a lot of talent and a LOT of motivation coming in here tomorrow night. I hope we give them the respect and attention a team of that caliber deserves.

I like being a cheerleader sometimes. If we win tomorrow night, I might even get on the radio and cheer some.

ok every team in the state knows about channing fugate including st. x trinity everyone. but tell me this can channing run the ball without the big man up front. or without the recievers streaming down field pulling the db's back a lil bit. channing is the leading rusher in the state and he credits everyone on th team for aiding his success. all im saying is you cant be a good back without the big guys in front leading the way. no blocking equals no rushing or passing or offense at all.

what about the shaved head? both you and joe if they win or if they win state..
