Sheldon Clark @ Belfry (3A 3rd Round)
#31
Belfry should win, but if the angry red machine doesn't come to play, SC is good enough to keep them out of Louisville. The Cards aren't a BAD team, but IMO they aren't on the level that Belfry is.

Now that's out of the way...

Don't kick the SCHS fans for cheering for their team, message board or not. They have the right, no, the duty, to encourage their team and to hope for a win, just as we do. That said, the last game doesn't matter now, except that it determines where the game next week will be held.

Exactly. We had better not ride that high horse around too much this week or we might just get bucked off. There's never been a horse that couldn't be rode and there's never been a rider that couldn't be throwed.

Will this game be on TV live, like it was a few years ago.....

I really don't think its the big head. I do however feel that its what everyone says about SC fans when they get on here and do the same thing. They are supporting their team. They believe in them, and they want them to win. They are Cheering them on!!!!

Also, some of the "fans" you think are Belfry fans... are from other places. THEY are just stating their opinions.

I can't confirm whether or not this phone call took place, I can only repeat what was said over the radio during tonights ballgame...BUT

My question is this....why would any coach have to throw out 2/3rds of his playbook due to heavy rain when you are:

1. Playing at home
2. Playing on turf
3. Playing a team which plays the exact same plays that you have seen them play over the past 20 + years (which shawn hager himself played)

Doesn't it seem that as a coach, that much of your playbook shouldn't depend upon wheather conditions?

What do you think those plays could have consisted of that rain, on turf, would have contributed to the outcome of the Belfry/Sheldon Clark being different than what it was?

A good passing game will be the fall of Belfry. You don't know much about football if you think the weather can't affect the game. The ball is harder to get a grip on to throw and harder to catch with the hands. Belfry is a great team. If SC doesn't play assignment football on defense and miss their assignments it is a different game. Belfry will probably win but SC can play with them. Playing on turf only helps the footing not the throwing. I am still picking SC by a touchdown.

All Belfry has to do is stay focused on Sheldon Clark and they should win. We will respect the Cards, they have earned their place in the title game. Weather will be about 10-15 degrees warmer than last night, so I expect a bigger, louder Belfry crowd and I'd say many Card fans will make the short trip as well...matter of fact, there were four SC fans sitting adjacent to me last night.

Let's keep this thread as respectful as possible. Both teams are accustomed to getting this far, so let's keep the posting as adult as possible. Bragging and some playful\spirited conversation is ok, but please no bashing or taunting.

Please, also keep in mind that just because someone posts in here, does not mean they are a Belfry\SC fan. It's an open board, so there will be many opinions from differnt views. We respectfully ask all posters to keep it civil :-)

Let's have a great week on the boards!

Trust me, I know about football, what I was saying is that 2/3rds of his plays couldn't have been passing plays...I mean Sheldon Clark is not known as a passing team by any means.

It seems like I, along with everyone else, heard the same thing about a passing game will be the fall of Belfry..I think I heard that in 2003 & 2004 when Belfry played 2 great passing teams.

The pressure put on the qb by the defense of Belfry seems to get most passing teams out of their comfort zone.

Now, am I saying that Belfry has a great pass defense..NO, but I am saying that the defense tends to do good enough that most teams haven't been tremendously successful in relying on their passing game against the Pirates.

I agree that fans should back their teams but the SC fans tend to over-do it a little. They take an average football team and make them up to be able to beat the 2007 Patriots in the regular season. Backing your team is one thing but playing them up to be the greatest is another. Can SC fans not see that their team doesn't play on the level of Belfry? Honestly, how hard can it be to see it? O well, I guess they can believe what they want, but i just don't see it making any sense.

A great passing team could be the fall of Belfry, but it hasn't happened yet.

WOW, Belfry will be getting ready for the trip to the 'ville. Sheldon Clark, may give them a better game this time, but they will fall short once again. Good luck Pirates. Play this game first, and don't come out thinking you will automatically win and you will cruise to the 'ville once again.

Let us clarify one point to that phone call. Joe K. was driving to SC for the regular season game and Hager called him and said that a good chunk of his play book went out the window due to the rain. I,( being Joe's parter in crime on the radio) , was driving behind Joe as we traveled to the Rock. Joe told me about that call when we got to SC. Joe told Belfry's coaches after the Russell game about Hager calling him.

Well Its not the regular season. The pats lost in the playoffs and a team you would never have thought that year won the super bowl. You never no. No Sheldon Clark didnt match up with Belfry in the regular season. But it is the playoffs anything can happen. If SC O-Line can hold the D-Line of Belfry Sc might be able to get the pass going. That is the only way SC will have a Chance tho. But either way we will have a mountian team going to the state semi yet another year

VERY few teams will be able to pass on Belfry this year. MOF only 3 more teams will even get the opportunity Tongue

Anyway, the problem with trying to pass against Belfry is you've got Drew, Thomas, Timmy, and Pretty Boy, who are all very quick and decent, if not amazing, DBs. But you've got to keep our "piddly" 3-man pass rush off the QB long enough to get a receiver open, and it's just not likely to happen. I doubt there's an offensive lineman in the state who could block Corey Coleman one-on-one, the only exception being one particular Belfry lineman, and his name is... Corey Coleman Tongue And this kid was the star halfback of the Freshman team a few years ago Tongue

SC is better than an average team. They have a career winning percentage of 67% thats pretty good for a county that used to be a basketball county. Its just a good rivalry. They want to beat Belfry every year so every year they believe they can. I think they stand a good chance in winning this game. Last game SC was bringing up defensive backs to try and stop Belfry's running game. It didn't work. Ian ran them over. They also got dominated on the LOS. If they can fix this than they could pull out a close one. Especially if the team is as confident as most the fans.
#57
SC will be lucky to even score 14 points on the pirates...they are the real deal..if you cant stop Ivan Lee you cant beat the pirates..and im yet to see anyone shut him down..lol
#58
Man it that's time of year again the pirates are a good team and have my respect but of course i love my cards and i want them to win so bad. We can do it guys i know we can. What people post on here don't listen to it this is a big game and we can pull it off we've done it before so lets do it again. I want all the Sheldon Clark fans out in full force lets get it loud Friday night like we have all year to cheer on our boys.

Then you would be the man to answer this question for me....Wink

Did it seem strange that a head coach would be calling a radio announcer, before a BIG game which decided the District winner, and make a statement like that? It just seems that Shawn was already preparing his excuses of why they might lose before the game began.

Don't get me wrong, I like Shawn Hager alot, I went to school with him and he is a great guy, but I don't see the reasoning to make such a statement BEFORE the game.

Quit worring about the past. We have a new game coming up. Dont worry about if Coach Hager made that call. If he did so what. What does it really matter. He is a good young head coach. Every coach is going to make mistakes:Thumbs:
