Congrats Raceland This was a great game.

FBALL Wrote:While this was easily the most energized game they have played Russell hardly played great. To many arm tackles on Denton. The kid is a beast. You have to go low and wrap up.
On offense too many negative plays for Russell. While they did do some really good things there were some mistakes that cost Russell points and field position. I too don't know why they didn't go back to the power I a little bit more. The offense had a good flow to it at times but sputtered at other times. I do think they missed Bailey out there. It would have been nice to have had him available.
All in all this was a really entertaining game between two pretty good teams. Raceland will get their perfect regular season and Russell will be well prepared going into the playoffs.
For Raceland it suprised me that they showed as many offensive looks as they did. The naked bootleg at the end of the first half was a great call. That was a huge play to give Raceland the lead at the half.
ABRAMS aint no slouch either. he impresse me alot. raceland needs to work on stopping the cut back better. russell has a great team and i think BOTH teams will benifit in a HUGE way going into the playoffs. raceland need 4 quarters of football. they hadn't recieved that since the LCA game. russell hold your heads up high and make a run so maybe we can cheer each other on in the GRIDIRON BOWL!
congrats on a well fought victory for the rams, need to tighten up somethings before the 2nd week of november, but a great game that left me horse from yelling.great game to watch and good luck to the devils the rest of the year

i can agree. i heard somethings at the game that embarassed me to some extent. a good rivalry and competitiveness are fine in my book, but there are times when people need to use their heads. i saw it on both sides of the field. but i want it to be known that i have nothing but respect for the russell football program. coach mcglone is a great coach and always has a great team. as i said before good luck the rest of the season...give em' all ya got

FBALL Wrote:Russell and Raceland are pretty even. Raceland has two really good RBs. Carver gets alot of misdiretion yards and Denton is just an animal. It would have been nice if Rusell would have had Bailey available to compliment the running of Abrams.
Bechwood puts either of them away easily. Of course IMO Beechwood puts most teams in the state away easily regardless of class.
I have to add that special teams by both Raceland and Russell are atrocious.
i'll have to agree with u there. the snap over the head(thank god Boyles is tall and have a god knows how high verticle) missed extra points, poor kick offs, almost no coverage by either team, things need to be tightened up for both squads, other than that, both teams seem to be doing rather well.

After last week the coaches saw a need to fill that spot. Man they found a good one. Of course you still have to cover the punts after he kicks them. Let me add this as well. Dolly is the best tackling kicker you have ever seen. Some others need to watch how he does it.[/QUOTE Great tackle by Dolly tonight.
that tackle he made to save a touchdown was nice. any other punter/kicker would've probably gone for the knees or got ran over, but he forced him to the sidelines. then i figured he'd just force him on out with pursuit, nah he hit em'. i like seeing that stuff. i tell ya, i think both teams are peeking(sp?) at the right time...minus special teams...

Has Russell changed defensive coordinators? There has been a huge fall-off on the defensive side of the ball this year. Good win for the Rams, and Russell will learn from this and improve I hope.

Dolly had 2 BIG hits and I think he got the big hit of the game award!!!!!

They need to line dolly up at the safety position. He is a very good open field tackler. I really think he could help the Russell defense.

The Rams deserve all the credit in the world for last nights effort. Like most people have stated, It takes 11 to play. Dosen't matter how many try out for the team its only 11 that can play at a time. Last night Raceland had the perfect 11. Russell needs some size to happen in the near future, BADLY. Our team is not blessed as we have been in the past with size. Speed, we have some great runners, but not the fastest we have ever seen. Talent, yes some have that "vision" of running the ball. Russell can compete in the playoffs, hope fully they keep playing like they did last night! As for Raceland, no matter what, Im sure most of us in this area support you on your endevors and hope you bring back the Trophy. Good luck in the playoffs and congradulations on a perfect season!

I came away from this game more impressed with Russell than I did My Rams. That was not the same Russell team I saw play aginst a not very impressive Mason Co. I think Russell fans should feel a lot better about their chances against Belfrey after the effort that was put out by the Devils lastnight. Raceland always struggles against wing-t offenses and lastnight was no exception. I thought Russell would throw more when they found out how bad our pass defense was. I also agree with a lot of other people out there, Russell's kicker should be playing more than kicker He was the best Tackler on the field last night. He also made some good open field tackles against Mason co. The week before.

I don't think it is a talent issue with Russell. I think it is an attitude issue. They need to get their swagger back. Lastnight was a good start.
11-01-2008, 01:36 PM
this game was very hard fought game by both teams. i dont think either team played like they wanted to, and could have corrected some mistakes but this was nothing short of an amazing football game. There was 5 lead changes. Racelands rushing attack is awesome. Abrams is pretty good too. Raceland just did what they had to do in the 4th quarter to get the job done!

Garry Morris is still the defensive coordinator? That fall off is mostly due to replacing the entire defensive front. Getting the right people in the right spots. The defense has played better the last couple of weeks.

I was suprised that Raceland showed so many looks on offense. The naked bootleg at the end of the half was a great call. I figured they may play it really conservative and not show anything on film for LCA later.

Thats a good point. Neither team ever lead by more than a TD. I think we may have been heading for OT had there not been problems on the snap on that last fourth down play for Russell. The reciever was there...
Great competitive game.

Raceland even had a different spread look lastnight. Looked like Texas techs spread. They had huge splits in thier line. Vanderhoof said he wasn't going to play it conservative this year. The Devils were way more impressive lastnight than the week before.
One thing I would like to add. People have said well Russell plays a week schedule. Well the last three games I doubt you can find any other 3A team that has played a schedule as difficult.
This game, as well as Mason County and Simon Kenton, all though losses should help Russell in the playoffs. Now it would have been nice to have won them all and really should have beaten Mason County. But the quality of competition should have Russell very well prepared for anybody. Simon Kenton is better than anybody in 3A and Raceland is a really tough team as well.
Same for Raceland. Outside of Beechwood There is not a 1A team out there that is as good as the team Raceland played last night.

Unless there is something I'm not seeing, next year's Russell team is going to be extremely small! However, I think they will still be good and enjoyable to watch because I think they'll have some good leadership (Rice and Smith will be 3 year starters), some fast guys, and some guys who put forth a lot of effort. I know we're still focused on this year...but your comment about the size of the Russell team caught my eye. I'm hoping you guys know of some giants we've been keeping locked away for the past few years ready to be let out next year.

I think I'm starting to see what you mean. There is actually a post on the other site right now titled "Rank the Greenup County Teams". It goes on to list Raceland as number 1, Raceland's JV team as number 2, and then Russell's varisty team as number 3.

Yeah a buddy of mine with ties to the Raceland team told me they didn't want to show alot. What a liar. Looked like they were forced to. I noticed the different spread look. Going to that and calling the plays at the LOS paid off for the Rams.
Yes. Russell played much better than last week when you had to stand there and listen to me cuss.

Its not to hard to see. I have alot of friends from Raceland. Those idiots are not any of them. They are petty, ignorant and child like.
Tell them I said Hi again. Also tell them its a shame that they are such a poor reflection on their community. The reply's you get should be priceless.

lol. Are you kidding me? Russell lost by a fumbled snap cause drew was wide open and Russell didn't have Bailey and if you are a ram fan then you might remember last year? Good game by boths teams, but where is that amazing size and the amazing dline? Raceland acted like they were gonna put 70 points on the board. Good luck to both teams in the playoffs but Russell played better than Raceland in my eyes.

I also thought Russell was more impressive lastnight. Judging from the Mason co. Game the week before I thought Raceland would win by three or four touchdowns, but Russell looked more like Russell lastnight. This Raceland team is starting to look like the Raceland team from a year ago. One week they play the next week they can't execute. Thats not a good Recipie for playoff football. I remember an un-defeated Raceland team in 96 that got beat 48-6 by a 4 seeded New Cath team. By the way this is not even close to the best team Raceland has ever had. They may be one of the biggest but not in the top 5 of the best.

The texas tech spread deal even caught me by suprise. I've seen them do many things this year but not that. The Rams better get Russell out of their minds because LCA is waiting for revenge in the Regional finals. If our pass defense doesn't get better there wont be a 4th round.

I thought they did well on the passing D. Mitchell had to fight for a reception every time and always two defenders near him. I did notice the one on one but they were able to break free to help at any time.
