40 yard times

Keepnitreal Wrote:When I said you were wrong it was directed at your statement about EJ Fields winning the 100 meter at state.

I'm not meaning to get in your feeling over this. It was a simple post. If it makes you feel better believing he's not that fast then I'm fine with that. Believe what you want.

You cannot use the logic you're trying to determine an estimated 40 time. He won the region with a 10.94, using your logic he's capable of a 4.37. Yes, some people may be faster at the end and some are faster early in a sprint, there are just to many variables. And I do want to point out it was hand timed and admitted it may not be 100% correct. I'm not arguing with you on a board. I know I'm right and i'm ending it with that!

I never said he wasn't fast, and it's not hurting my feelings one bit, just no need for outlandish times

Not that it really matters, but Jones was timed at 4.30 and 4.31 at the latest UK Pro day. That was what he told me when I asked him.

Never in high school though... he got to 4.3 after having a top rate strength and speed coach.

Yep, never in high school. It is amazing how much stronger and faster he is now and for the most part he has played real solid this year for UK.

Colleges can do unbelivable things to young men in the size, speed and strenght dept. Jones had some pretty good ground work to begin with that kid was fast in HS right out of the gate.

Why do you think a school like Jenkins, Allen Central etc, cannot have someone under 5?

UK Wildcat Wrote:Why do you think a school like Jenkins, Allen Central etc, cannot have someone under 5?

I said under 4.5.... it is possible, but more often than not when you have a school with only around 20-30 players, with limited strength and speed training, and more than likely no track team... the odds are stacked pretty insurmountably against it being a legit possibility. (Let alone the fact that EKY schools generally have a lack of speed compared to other areas of the state)

David is very fast. Really wished he would have got the fumble. Sad Why isnt he returing kickoffs now.

The times that anyone ran at state wasn't there best times because the weather was awful. It was extremely windy and the hundred metes was right into it. So an 11.46 wasn't no where near lewis's best time. I saw him run a 10.9 like twice so he is very capable of running a 4.3 but not a 4.2. I've heard of the green kid from male running a 10.6 before so its hard to tell what he would run. Prolly a low 4.3 or a high 4.2 and I think he's going to Ohio state to play football

I am as about as big of a JC fan as you get, but some of you people are nuts. You have no comprehension at all as to what a 4.2 really is.

Heck , true 4.4's are as rare as hen's teeth.

Deion Sanders ran about a 4.25 at Florida State and he was one of, ( if not the) fastest player to ever play in the NFL.
#41
BTW 4.4s arent rare anymore old man. There are defensive ends who run 4.4s. Thats a lineman Wink

lol....Yeah, well, not at Johnson Central they dont.Smile

You've got a lot to learn there sonny. I'd say I've forgotten more about speed training and conditioning than you'll ever know. And just so you know I'm still involved in it every single day. I am hardly behind the times. I've done a pretty good job at turning out some of the best athletes to ever come out of Johnson Central. So when you can make that statement, then you can start struttin around on your own some.Wink

I swear, every time Johnson Central starts doing well in something we get a bunch that comes out of the woodwork.

Some of you all need to learn how to act like you've been there and done that.

Which DE's run a 4.4? Quite possibly the best DE in the league is Javon Kearse, Jason Taylor or Julius Peppers and they are no where near a 4.4...maybe a 4.6.
#44
yea your right the de's run more in the 4.6 4.7 range
#45
well what good athletes came out of johnson central.....lets here it
#46
Why being so defensive towards JC? I didn't even graduate from there...JC has had their fair share of athletes and several make it big...none of this has anything to do with 40 times though. I think sometimes though a 40 time can be built up to be something bigger than what it really is. I know great speed is something that is becoming rare around EKY, but in football I'd rather have a bunch that were agile, quick (not pure burners), and were just good, solid football players.
#47
I would rather have the speed cause you can't teach speed you either have it or you don't you can learn the rest on the fly. BTW I don't have anything at all against JC I'd just like to know what good athletes have came out of JC.
#48
True, speed is a God-given talent....but as a wise man once told me, "You can't make chicken salad out of chicken sh*t." There are numerous agility drills and speed traning drills that can increase your speed, not necessarily mind boggling results but enough to be close to the ellite group of athletes. Also, 40's are really determined by the first 10 yards anyway...so if you do a lot of Hang Cleans/Power Cleans and other leg exercises dealing with explosion then it will improve even more.

As for the JC deal...Mr. Kimball would be better at that than I would.

craig cooley from prestonsburg has good size and i heard he ran a 3.9

Come on now, he couldn't run a 3.9 in a dang Buick.

What planet are you from? Some of the greastest nfl players never ran under a 4.0 to 4.1.

TooFast Wrote:Yes i can for one say that he is about 1 to 2 steps faster then jones. I didnt believe Andy when he came to JC, i was a senior and this skinny kid just walked into the weight room talkin he could run like a 4.4 or a high 4.3 and we all called him bluff so we had sean grim run against him sean was in shorts and running shoes and andy was in jeans and i think a pair of speries (summen like a dress shoe) and andy beat him by about 5 to 6 yards in the 40 and grim runs a 4.6. Andy has also gotten faster but hes not cut out for football hes a track runner! Im sure tho that he is the fastest kid in the mountains!

Do you know what the difference in a 4.6 and a 4.5 40 time is? It's about 8 inches if I'm not mistaking. So if Grim was running a, let's say 4.8, and if he was beaten by 4-5 yards which is 12-15 feet, then.......
#54
This shows how ridiculous some of you are sounding.

Think a minute about what you are saying.

If that were the case , your logic is actually saying that Lewis would be running a

(negative) -.6 Rolleyes

Apparently 8 inches is not a correct assumption and you are probably mistaken.

This thread gets more stupid as it goes.

I have watched a lot of football this year and seen a lot of mountain teams play and I would safely bet that there are maybe a handfull of players in the mountains that can run a sub 4.6. David Jones was super quick and he ran what a 4.5 in high school?
